Almond Milk help!
Posted by: Anonymous User ()

Hello,
I'm new to the raw diet...hoping to help with my fiance's chronic illness and I'm supporting him by doing it as well. I'd like to attempt to make almond milk...would a traditional strainer work for this or would that be a disaster? I'm having trouble finding nut milk bags locally. Any ideas? Thank you!

For all smoothies and nut milks etc I use Vitamix. It is awesome. I know it is about $300, but it so worth it. I make almond milk for the kids almost every day and it comes out so creamy and smooth without any straining or nut milk bag. Just my thoughts.

A Iyer,

How much nuts/water do you use?

Someone who used to post here years ago used pantyhose (brand new, of course) to strain the pulp. A traditional fine strainer should be able to do the job as well.

I use 1 cup of soaked almonds to 3 cups of water. However, I've read that a 1:5 ratio also works.

Anyone have the nutritional facts on nut milk by chance?

Thanks!

I use a clean piece of old sheet fabric draped over a strainer, dump the blended almond "smoothie"into the fabric, then pick it up and squeeze it out, holding the edges together. A little archaic, but works for me (1:4ish sprouted almonds to water).

If you don't mind the pulp then don't strain it! Save the time and trouble!

You don't have to strain your nutmilk, but if you want to... a nylon paint strainer bag you can get at the hardware store for about a dollar is pretty much identical to a $7-8 nut milk bag.
