213. Re: Raw okra
I add okra to my salads and it makes it taste like gumbo. I like the mucilaginous effect of the okra in the salad. I slice the okra very thinly for my salad.

I've tried substituting sunflowers for cashews, and I wasn't happy with it for certain dishes, for example, when you want a creamy dairy taste, because sunflowers are more bitter than cashews. For some some applications, like making raw burgers, sunflower seeds work really well.

Yes, things have become quiet around here. Also, it seems like most of the raw food proponents from those days are no longer raw anymore.

Every so often I move the non-raw food topics from the main forum to either the Health or Other Topics forum.

PS. If you check the comments in the YouTube above, I describe my variation on John's hack.

I saw one of John Kohler's videos called $20 Nutribullet Hack Gets You 3x More Nutrients From Your Recipes. I did my own version of this hack, which works pretty well. The only issue with my hack is that I am using a cheap $20 blender, so it doesn't blend as well as my Blendtec. It's also a lot more work if you have a manual pump, so making a smoothie takes more time.
This time of year I don'

Here's a warning about consuming durian in conjunction with other slightly toxic foods.
An excerpt from the article:
QuoteYou see, while it is true that durian, in addition to tasting very good, contains all kinds of wonderful nutrients, including a wide array of minerals and trace elements, it is also true that durian contains some very powerful sulfur-containing compounds that, when ingeste

226. Re: concord grapes
Yes, late summer. I've also seen them rarely in the stores too. I think the issue is they are quite delicate when ripe.

I love the taste of Concord grapes. I had a bunch this summer fresh off the vines, and these were seedless.

It is possible to really heat up smoothies and blends using a high powered blender like the BlendTec or the VitaMix. On the plus side, things get really blended with the high powered blenders.
That's a great price on a Blendtec.

One of the reasons it is so quiet here is that I have taken deeper measures to keep out the people who regularly troll this forum. It used to be that anyone could create a new email account and join, even if I just banned them. Now, I do some homework on any new person trying to join to see if they are using their real email account or a brand new fake one. This has cut down the SPAM immensely.

Thank you for sharing this Gosia. It's clear that the donations from the raw community stopped when DR said it was a scam. He loves controversy, and in this case, a person health suffered.
