I think it would make a lot more sense - and probably ensure that you'll love the diet in the future - if you transition gradually. In the beginning if I had a craving for something I just ate it - and I found that the more raw food I ate, the less cravings I got. Eventually the Ben & Jerry's would just sit in my freezer untouched, and I was telling everyone "this is the easiest diet

842. Re: salt
Sodium and water are both essential for the kidneys to be able to maintain proper electrolyte balance in the body. If you're a runner or sweat a lot, you'll have to eat more salt than the average person. When you dehydrate, it's essential to replenish both the lost water and the lost sodium. So yes, there will be times when salt is essential. The body will crave salt both when there's

What about cavities? I think I might have a couple? Does anyone know if cavities might go away on a raw food diet? I'll prob go to the dentist anyway - but I'm curious.

I read somewhere that in Japan the Ministry of Health some years ago commissioned a study as to why Japan had such a high rate of stomach cancer, and their answer was "salt" - their diet, with all the soy sauce, contained an unusually high level of salt. Thereupon the soy sauce in sushi restaurants was replaced with low-sodium soy sauce, and the country's rate of stomach cancer was cut

MILK THISTLE! I've never had a strong liver and was diagnosed with fatty liver in my mid-20s. I can't go out drinking 2 nights in a row or my liver will react, same with if I eat carbs the next day after drinking. So back when I used to drink a lot (plus social recreational drugs) I would always take milk thistle and eat lots of bitter greens to counteract the toxins. Worked great. In fact

When I first tried the raw diet it was shockingly expensive - but now I find that with less food cravings I actually eat less, so it seems to have balanced out. For me it's the leafy greens that work well. You'll have to discover what works for you.

When I get those cravings I go to the health food store to the raw snacks section and find what would be the closest approximation to whatever it is that I'm craving (sorry if you live in a place where you don't have this option). Also I find that my own homemade guacamole works great for cravings - lots of onions for flavor, and you satisfy the fat/salt craving as well. Also salads with seaweeds

1. Why have you chosen to eat all/mostly raw foods? By accident, actually - I decided to do a 2-week detox diet & the book I picked up at the health food store was a raw food detox. Four days on the diet & I knew I'd never go back to "normal" eating. Still haven't & loving it! 2. How long have you been eating this way? Two months 3. Do you consider yourself to be p

that's funny, I used to have a pot belly and my stomach got nice & flat on raw. I can't imagine that having a pot belly would be normal & healthy, there are so many ways to eat raw, I think you just have to find the right combination of foods for your body.

Strattera?? Yikes! Doesn't it make your head hurt? My doctor gave me a sample bottle once and it freaked me out, I got the sense there was something amiss with it as compared to the other ADD drugs, all of which are basically just harmful stimulants, in my opinion. I stopped taking all ADD drugs when I discovered that if I eat a lot of fresh vegetables, the ADD goes away. So I think you're doing

I'm probably still not completely transitioned as I've only been raw for about 6-8 weeks. I went through a lot of emotional detox and less physical. I'd have days where I felt on top of the world and then bam, other days I'd just crawl into bed feeling depression or anxiety or fear. The fear was the worst, I never want to go through that again! But then when it was over, I felt much better than I

In New York City I know of 2 places that carry bottled raw Kombucha: Westerly Natural on 54th & 8th and the tiny health food store right off the Broadway N train stop in Queens. In the Hamptons they carry it at Provisions in Sag Harbor. Please post any other stores you've found it at!

FLAX SEED OIL!!! I've tried both the liquid & the capsules and found them both effective so I prefer the capsules. I buy either Barlean's or Spectrum at the health food store and take 6-10 capsules a day. I've always had the DRYEST skin, even on my face I always had to use straight oils, moisterizers weren't powerful enough. And in the winter I just itched constantly. Then like 7 ye

Dr. Gabriel Cousens "Rainbow Green Live Food Cuisine" ---- Since I'm a hard science & facts person this book appealed to me since Dr. Cousens is a medical doctor - and, indeed, it sated my curiosity for holistic information from a science perspective. Loved it & was very impressed! The funny thing is, the flimsy hippie-sounding title is really not indicative of the cont

I tried the Atkins diet once & it gave me the scariest cottage cheese thighs - and I normally don't get cellulite. Now I realize what an enormous quantity of toxins meat & dairy must have to create such major cellulite. Yuck!

I've been drinking raw Kombucha tea, too - love it!! it instantly gives you that light happy energetic feeling so I'm guessing it must be a super powerful detoxifier - I didn't so much get physical detox sypmptoms as this weird awful feeling of deep-down dread, like something terrible was going to happen to me. I hope that's normal!? It was really scary, it still scares me. I think I'll take it e
