anaken, Please read one of the great books about fasting for a clearer understanding. There are many theories thrown around regarding fasting that reveal a lack of understanding, fear and mistrust of nature. The body always strives to do what it can to optimize function. It knows what it's doing. It would never cleanse in such a way that would jeopardize itself. Fasting and starvation are

". what i'm saying is that in spite of, or without such foods/medications..everyone is 'water fasting' the second, minute, hour, day etc...prior to death, so how could it NOT be the symptoms attempt to come out, which kills them? Lets say a decision was made to get well, how come every minute after choosing not intake food (at any point in an acute crisis) would not result in increased resto

"Dr. Fred Bisci, a 40 year raw foodist says, that you can die from endogenous toxins just as easily as you can die from exogenous toxins. " If a poison didn't kill when it was consumed, it will not do so on the way out. This is the kind of myth that frightens people away from fasting. Chemicals and wastes that have been stored in the body may interact with other substances -- exoge

Durian is probably as old as humanity itself. The thing that might make it appear "trendy" is that it is not very well known in the western world (outside of the raw food community), and that it doesn't grow here, generally (although there are some farms in California starting to produce). It is a mysterious, exotic, complex, unique fruit. Most of the tropical fruits are strongly

Yes, it is normal. The body heals in cycles and often when its burden is lifted people feel very energetic initially. This doesn't last forever as the body cycles into deeper cleansing phases and redirects energy to that task. If you don't feel like working out, don't do it. AND, don't beat yourself up about it. The changes you are making with your diet are doing so much more for you than an

Hi Peony, Thanks for your post. Because everyone is so clueless about diet, exercise is over-emphasized in the cooked/medical world as a way to avoid disease. Osteoporosis is not caused by a lack of anything, it is a disease of excess, and although exercise does make bones denser it is just a secondary approach. The best way for a person to be sure that bone loss will never be a problem is

Tonsil-itis literally means 'inflammation of the tonsils'. Bacteria don't cause inflammation, wastes that the body is attempting to eliminate cause it. Bacteria are always at the site of inflammation because it is their job to eat/decompose waste. They get blamed but they are innocent by-standers. Actually, first responders, you might say. I had the exact symptoms you describe about 8 mon

Hi Tammy, I'm glad you found the other thread helpful. I'm sorry it went sideways and to the extent that I encouraged that, I'll work on changing. It's very difficult, however, to deliver the kind of information I have without raising the ire of those who have found security in medicine of one form or another. For about the last month or two, this is what it has looked like. I eat a melon

Jodi, Medicine is a belief system, not a science. Science works, it aligns with nature, always, 100% of the time. Medicine as a rule does not do that, although researchers do use scientific principles in their work. I'm glad you found at least part of the truth in raw food eating. I gather you're not suffering from cancer anymore. It takes flagrant abuse to create cancer, and people c

Jodi, I think it would be helpful for you to read about the real causes of disease, including cancer. Cancer doesn't appear for no reason. If you had it, it's because you caused it, even though you may have thought you were living healthfully. There is a great lesson on cancer and its causes in the Life Science Course at RawFoodExplained.com. Nora www.RawSchool.com

Jodi, We don't need food that's "as healthy as it could be". I didn't get healthy eating food that was grown 100 years ago, I got healthy eating supermarket food. People who think their symptoms are the result of deficiencies need to stop making mistakes of excess and their symptoms will go away. Regards, Nora www.RawSchool.com

GREENS: Do We Need To Eat Them, Even if We Don't Like Them? by Nora Lenz © 2005 * www.RawSchool.com It's a question many raw fooders are asking. The perceived threat of mineral deficiencies inspires even those who don’t like the taste to eat them regularly, if not daily. Conventional wisdom insists that a diet low in greens leads to nutrient deficiencies. So why do some long-term raw f

They are missing out. "No, I don't recommend eating greens that taste bad, bitter, or foul. No, I don't recommend eating greens all the time, always, no matter what. I often go days, and sometime

Wallace, Thanks for the compliment. I don't think I have any writings on my site that have to do with fat specifically, but I do talk about how much of it I eat and what I think is optimal in various places like my 'raw evolution' essay and perhaps the one on emotional eating. Fresh, I had another look at Billings' bio and I don't recommend it for anyone who hasn't been educating him/herself long enough to discern truth from falsehood. In one passage he describes his "idyllic" life in Florida where he learned about "wild foods" from some author he names and says he was eating lots of fruit and spending lots of time in the sunshine. He then go

I've read his website and his errors were clear to me at the time. It's been a long time since I read it and I certainly don't have time now, that's why I chose to guess. He didn't fail because he cooperated with nature too much, that's for sure. Frankly, when people call themselves "fruitarian" it's a red flag to me as it usually (present company excepted, F1 ) means they are strivi

But if you have to look away because of the brightness, or your eyes tear, or it is uncomfortable in any way, do not gaze at the sun. I

Fresh, Your question is a bit indirect but I'll do my best. I AM proposing that deficiency is a practical impossibility, ESPECIALLY in raw fooders. However, I'm not sure what this has to do with F1 thriving and Billings failing. I can tell you that the reason F1 is doing well is because he's obviously living in accord with his biological mandates. Nature works that way -- when certain requis

Sarah, Thanks for your post. Consumption is very closely tied to expenditure in Doug Graham's world, but in reality it is not, as you note. I contend that when people are extremely healthy, they can eat very little by comparison to the quantities that Dr. Graham advocates even while maintaining an activity level that would qualify as athletic by any standard. I've had discussions with followe

"the only thing I've ever heard him say about the amount of greens is to eat as much of them *as you care for*. Thanks for posting those comments, Troy. However, the question that was asked does not get to the issue we're discussing. The question you need to ask of Dr. Graham is, if a person tries celery everyday (or at least frequently) for, say, a 3-year period and finds it consistently bad tasting, and has the same experience with the lettuces and other greens, should that person eat them anyway? It

Food is supposed to have bacteria on it. How would our ancestors have survived if bacteria on food made people sick? They had no way of washing their food. Notice the germ theory has never been called the germ "law". Contrast it to the Law of Gravity, which has been proven and is consistent and predictable. Even the germ theory's adherents seem to know it has loopholes. Bacteria a

Fresh, I’m really glad you asked for clarification because this is an important issue that lots of people want sensible information about, which they have not gotten so far. It’s also something I’ve done a lot of pondering on. Fresh, You are right to question the statements that Doug Graham has made about exclusively fruit-based diets being unsustainable. I challenge that idea. I submit that when someone fails on an all-fruit diet, there are many possible factors to be considered, and these should not include the fact that greens were omitted. Or at least that's the very last thing that should be considered. Often

Yes, Mislu, it is a beautiful thing, to see how children enjoy fruit. A friend of mine tells the story of how he used to eat plums from the tree at a house he was working on, and how the little children who lived there would gather around him and beg him to pick them fruit. He was actually admonished by their mother for giving it to them because it "spoiled their appetite" for their r
