No doubt many of you are aware that after September 1, 2007, almond processors will be required to pasteurize all almonds sold to the public. The exception is almonds that are purchased directly from farmers. During my last fruit gleaning trip to California I was able to negotiate a deal with an almond farmer who will sell me unpasteurized, certified organic almonds at a low price. I'm selling

Thanks Julie and Mike, I checked the Genefit site and there is no mention of durian, not even of any products besides their book. The Uwajimayas in Seattle & Bellevue have fresh durian too on rare occasions, usually at $6.99/lb. The last time I bought from them I actually ordered a whole case (4 fruit) and only two of them were edible. At that rate, it's cheaper for me to go to Canada! T

Thanks, Bryan. I've talked to the local Whole Foods and they didn't even know what I was talking about. I don't think Pure Food Network were the ones who were advertising durian, at least not the ones I'm thinking of. It was a year or two ago and they were publicizing their business by hosting these durian tasting parties in the LA area. Ring any bells? Btw, where exactly are you locate

Hello, A while back I read about some people who were importing fresh, raw durian and shipping it around the U.S., apparently removed from its shell, packaged and refrigerated. I haven't heard anything about them lately. Does anyone know if they're still in business? Thanks for any info. Regards, Nora www.RawSchool.com

So let me see if I understand this correctly. You've identified the foods that make you feel miserable, but you enjoy them so much that they are worth the pain? Actually, this is a common problem for new raw fooders. As you make progress with your dietary improvements, the foods that cause suffering will lose their appeal. It may take several years; it did for me. I was eating a cup or m

Fasting isn't always the best thing, but this more often has to do with the emotional issues of the person involved, plus circumstantial factors like work schedules, family obligations, etc. There are some rare diseases, also, for which fasting is not the best. These are AIDS and cancer, in the advanced or 'wasting' stages, since when disease is this far advanced there is usually not sufficient

Sunshine79, As you would see if you'd take a look at the links I provided, these are not "my" theories, and they are not "untested". I'll take your challenge. In fact, I've made the offer before, publicly, many times. So far nobody who has issued the challenge has been interested in following through. Realistically, there would be problems to overcome like forced vacc

Excuse me while I dig myself out of the predicted barrage. I guess I get a little spoiled participating on the other boards I frequent where people don't insult or deliberately bait each other, and there is mutual respect and a friendly tone. When a person feels the need to get personal, it's revealing of the emotional attachment that the person feels to his/her beliefs and ideas. It's a w

Horsea, It's true that nature never makes mistakes, and when it appears so it's only because we don't understand what's going on. However, there is no such thing as a "pathogen", and the reason Narz posted the question is because he knows I subscribe to a set of principles which holds that acute disease is always a self-limiting, constructive process undertaken solely at the body's di

Ron, Just to clarify, we're talking about fresh figs, which generally aren't treated with anything. It is possible to get dried figs without chemical preservatives, you just have to check the ingredients label. Best, Nora www.RawSchool.com

No, I don't eat dried fruit. They're fresh, and almost gone for the season. Nora www.RawSchool.com

jono, I buy my figs at Whole Foods or a local (Seattle) co-op called PCC. In both places, figs are sold in bulk so you can sort through and buy only the best. I don't buy them when I have to buy them pre-packaged. Either way, they are not cheap. In peak season I've paid as little as $3 per pound but most often it's double that. Still, cheaper than meds and health insurance. Warm wishes,

Hi Narz, Nice to see you again. You're right, my comments were clumsy and overly facetious. I'll try to clarify in a manner that might be more to your liking. My point was that the fundamental principles that a researcher holds to be true do affect his/her work. For example, a researcher who acknowledges the frugivorous nature of human beings and the importance of fruit in the diet might dra

I'm the biggest fan of fruit that I know of, and my diet consists of fruit to the near exclusion of all other foods, but even I don't call myself "fruitarian". The use of labels is unnecessarily limiting, imo. The only time I use the term is when I need to tell a SAD eater what I eat in as few words as possible. "Raw vegan" isn't descriptive enough and "hygienic" i

Bear in mind that whomever conducted this research undoubtedly lives on cooked, inappropriate, junk and non-foods. One might assume that people who make their living performing 'scientific' experiments would be the first to see the connection between cause and effect in their personal lives, but very often they are the LEAST likely to do so. If the person who is telling me to not eat figs becau
