Veronique, Healing proceeds, albeit at a slower rate, even when the flow of nerve energy that transmits pain is disrupted, as it is with acupuncture. Acupuncture does not effect or hasten healing, it decreases pain. We rightly associate the abatement of pain with healing but one does not equal the other. It may sometimes appear that acupuncture "heals permanently" but this is either

"What does an NH practitioner do then? Is that person an advisor? Someone to help the person unlearn bad habits, unlearn and debunk all the loads and loads of conflicting information out there? " **Yes and yes. This is the only legitimate thing a health educator can do. Medicine should confine itself to fixing traumatic injury and genetic deformities and it should even do these wit

Mislu, I greatly respect your honest and open inquiry. Did Bryan's post answer your questions? The only thing I would add is that the line between food and medicine is not blurry at all. Eating anything to stop a symptom is abusive to the body, regardless of whether what is eaten is popularly regarded to be food or medicine or both. Symptoms are healing. The only way to appropriately st

There is a tendency for us to think 'ancient' cultures didn't make mistakes, and it is generally the case that most lived a lot closer to nature than we do (could any culture live more UNnaturally than we do?), but isn't it obvious they were making mistakes if they needed healers and medicine men? To the extent that any medicinal discipline overlaps NH -- like recommending moderate exercise,

I seem to need 7 hours to feel my best, although I sometimes sleep longer. I never feel tired/sleepy during the day, even when I get less than 7 hours. If I get 5 or less, I feel a little groggy for an hour or so but after that I feel normal and energetic. I used to be paranoid about not getting enough sleep because I felt so awful when I didn't -- it would ruin my whole day. So I develop

Maybe not nice, Peisinoe, but definitely good. A body that offers such immediate vital resistance is healthier than one that puts up with poisons. The ultimate in tolerance is death. A dead person won't react at all to poisons entering the bloodstream, and, most often, neither will an unhealthy person. People think that being "sensitive" to unhealthful foods or substances is a weakn

Suvine, I read some of your blog last night and just wanted to say I was very impressed that someone of your tender age could have figured out so many profound truths about life and nature. I love your uncompromising conviction and enthusiasm. You are truly beautiful and a very inspiring testament to what can be accomplished through understanding and cooperating with nature. Thank you! veggieluv, It's not true that a certain number of calories need to be forced into the body even if a person doesn't feel like eating. There is nothing that says you can't even eat below your expenditure level temporarily. When your reserves are gone, you will feel real hunger and it will be as obvious as knowing to get out of the way from an oncoming train. Chances are, however, if you eat le

Thanks, Jodi. I didn't think of that. But they can still sign their real name to their posts and be a real person, and treat people like they would if they were talking to them in person. You do those things. I think there's more to it. I've noticed that people behave differently when they're anonymous, and the difference is not good. Best regards, Nora www.RawSchool.com

What are they hiding from? But I digress.) I've done my best to ignore the other barbs that were flung my direction, but that doesn't seem to be working. It seems like everytime I state ob

quadecoco wrote: "when I eat cooked food, I feel sedated and sometimes sleep better..." Hi aquadecoco, Feeling sedated is a sign of the overexpenditure of bodily energy, which creates an even greater rest deficit in the body. The problems that cooked foods create with regard to nerve energy regeneration are felt everyday by the people who eat it, and especially by raw fooders who

Dreams have been called "the guardians of sleep." Dreaming is what the mind does when 'external' influences threaten to disrupt the life-preserving process of nerve energy regeneration, which is what the body must do during sleep. If you realize this and start to observe the pattern of when you dream, you can make the connections between the things that are disturbing your sleep a

David, Your post implies that you think athletes need to eat more protein, but then you go on to talk about something completely different -- overall caloric intake. I'm not quite sure what your meaning is but I'd like to address your comment that your weakness is a sign there is "no gas in the tank". On the contrary, weakness can be felt when there is plenty of fuel in the body and

Hi Matt, You need to find a sustainable way to transition, imo. What you did before was obviously NOT sustainable, most likely because it represented too great a change for you. I disagree with Bryan here because I think going to a program like Doug Graham's 80-10-10 would be more of the same. Most people find it impossible to go from a conventional diet to an optimal one quickly. Even Dr. G

greengrl, My message is always to eat what you like. If you like eating spirulina by itself, and it keeps you from eating worse things (like cooked food), you are entirely justified in eating it. However, I daresay it takes a truly perverted palate to appreciate a "food" like dried spirulina by itself. The good news is that if you strive to make improvements in your diet, your body

Although you'll encounter many people who have made a hobby out of knowing which foods contain which nutrients, it is not important to have this information nor to make sure you "get enough" of any particular nutrient. All that is necessary is to stop eating the foods that create disease (i.e., the conventional western diet) and replace them with foods that come directly from nature an

coco, You don't say how old your child is/was but a baby can develop a taste or an addiction for foods or harmful substances that the mother ate while pregnant. If you had those 'foods' around after your child was born, you were most likely consuming them too, and your baby learned from watching you. If your child was old enough to have eaten regular cooked foods before you introduced the spi

Interesting choice of words, greengrl, because using the head is actually what I advocate getting away from. Using our intellects over our senses to select foods is an exclusively human habit, which we practice to our detriment. All the other animals on earth select foods on the basis of what pleases them with NO other criteria, and they do just fine, thank you. The fact that we grow our foods

You don't give your reasons for adding these foods to your diet but I would say that neither of them are particularly healthful. Oils of any kind are very taxing on the liver especially. They are highly processed foods, totally fractionated from their original form in the food they came from, and our bodies never had the chance throughout our long biological history to adapt the ability to use

coco, I had missed your earlier post or I would have responded to it as well. You bring up some very good points that are being missed by most in the raw community. I've never tested this but I would hazard to say that three minutes of boiling would be enough to substantially alter the nutrients in almonds. This certainly would not improve them or make them more digestible, contrary to wh

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but there are no foods that clean the liver. The liver is a self-cleaning organ, like all the others. Eating foods that purport to clean the liver but are otherwise problematic (like many of the foods listed above) will not hasten the healing process. The body heals as a unit. When the causes of disease are indulged, it forms in a person's weakest orga

Morrisson66, What I'm doing is not illegal. I'm as distrustful of government and authority as anyone (can you say 9/11 was an inside job) but I do think you are being a bit paranoid. We are under the radar of the people who made the decision to pasteurize. Raw fooders represent a minuscule fraction of consumers. The vast majority of consumers will be happy that almonds are now being pasteuri

People who eat cocoa and don't feel the effects are like drug addicts who don't feel the effects of their chosen drug if they don't consume a sufficient quantity, or a coffee drinker who needs a second cup in the morning before s/he can function. In other words, stimulants create tolerance levels as the body is forced to accommodate their presence by building protection for itself. Anyone who d

"an important part about detox is to NOT freak out over every little thing..." YES! Don't look at your feces at all unless you are fully prepared to ignore what you see there. Don't obsess over what is "normal". "Normal" is a combination of the condition of your body and the indigestible waste left over from the food choices you make. It's entirely relative.

Gosia, thanks for 'getting' what I was trying to say. Sorry for the lack of clarity. While it's true that there are lots of frugivorous animals (including humans), there are no fruitarians. Fruitarianism is a pseudo-moral pursuit, totally a human invention, which requires those who follow it to disregard their senses and follow an intellectual ideal instead. Why would a person want to cal

I agree with FO's post, and wanted to add my comments as well. The subject line on this thread reveals a bit of confusion and misunderstanding. There are no "side effects" of eating the proper foods. The term "side effects" is defined as the unintended harmful effects of a substance that otherwise is perceived to cause only positive effects. In the case of drugs and he
