Here's more info . Vitamin D3 is alleged to be more "powerful" than D2, although I beleive it is not suitable for vegans. Cheers, J

I don't have a lot of evidence for this at all, but I have a feeling or suspicion that eating lots and lots of fruits and veggies will protect you more from sunlight related damage than the sunscreens. <<And I do believe in sunscreen despite the counter arguments. I have seen my skin compared to that of friends and family members who do not use it and the difference is HUGE. Just fi

<<Have you seen article called Gut Thinking comparing the howler monkey versus the spider monkey in Panama? Very provocative.>> Thakns for the article link, interesting. I thought that humans actually had the capacity to process food in a variety of ways, inlcuding fermentation in the gut to take advantage of increased fiber intake. here's a link I found: Carbohydrate fermentati

<<Quote: In the 1930's, the citrus industry wanted to find out how long it would take for someone eating a diet of only oranges to get sick. Six years later, when the experiment was discontinued, the man was still in perfect health and said that he had never felt better in his life.>> Any references to the primary source? Cheers, J

If I may, I would like to make a few remarks about this interesting discussion so far. <<In statistics, combining the data from various studies is a big unscientific no-no. >> I thought that in principle this could be done, like in meta-analytical studies, which "combines the results of several studies that address a set of related research hypotheses" (see for examp

I agree with arugula on this, my impression, from peoples posts and menus, recipes, scientific awareness, etc... is that very few people actually make a conscious effort to make sure their diet is balanced and nutritious. It should be an indispensible tool, especially for someone starting out, to regularly check the free nutritional websites and for example. Once you are familiar with the nutri

This is how big the problem is... In spanish, mill. refers to millions (of hectares of gen. mod. crops). I'm afraid they are gettin gmore and more powerful, we really need to spread the word as far as we can. The "tortilla" crisis in Mexico right now has got politicians and industry calling for GE maize to increase supply and lower prices... the GE industry has massive politic

Well, you learn something new everyday! Lactucarium is the milky fluid secreted by several species of lettuce, especially Lactuca virosa, usually from the base of the stems. Lactucarium is known as lettuce opium because of its sedative and analgesic properties. It also promotes a mild sensation of euphoria. Lactucarium physically resembles opium, in that is excreted as a white fluid and can be

There's some really interesting passages in The China Study, with references, about breast cancer and the relation to diet. There is a very strong relation between diet and cancer, how anyone can say the contrary I find quite puzzling, especially someone who is aware of the raw foods paradigm. There is a lot of misinformation, such as the NUrses' Study and the Womens' Health Trial, which purport

I'd like to add that I really appreciated his insights on the flaws of the Nurses' Health study and the Womens' Health Trial with regards to scientific reductionism gone mad. I think his ratio of plant protein to animal protein in a diet as an indicator of disease makes a lot of sense, and agree that modifying the intake of one nutrient at a time, without questioning whole dietary patterns, does

Hey, what I meant is for the whole GE/commercial agriculture industry to be dropped and go back to an organic, locally orientated way of agriculture, so cross-pollination would not occur in my scenario. <<How do we know we are the ones who are rigth anyways, everybody has their own opionions, >> I'd like to hear a rebuttal of these criticisms to the privatisation of seeds...

Hey, thanks for the feedback everyone. I agree that being positive and generally happy will make a big impression on people, which they might relate to diet. I remember when I first started looking into raw foods (and I still do!), vegetarianism, etc... I was interested in knowing more techinical details about how it works out, all the good reasons to do it, making sensible eating choices, etc...

si, estoy en el norte, en una region que se llama Galicia, cerca de Portugal. it's quite green over here, with lots of mountains and rivers. lots of celtic history in this region too, so people play the bagpipes a lot and not so much flamenco, which is more in the south. They also celebrate epiphany here, so tomorrow there will be lots of processions in the streets with people dressed up as th

I've been recently thinking how to better respond to inquisitive and open minded people that ask me about my diet, and I figure instead of trying to explain the whole raw thing, since it might be too much of a mental leap, a good stepping stone is to explain the benefits of a wholefood vegetarian diet. I recently bought this book, The China Study, and have a really good opinion of it, quite thoro

Hey guys, yeah, i agree with education is the first line of defense. We need to make people aware of what is happening, how the world is changing without anyone really noticing. But, I don't agree with "#3 is technology (science). For every evil technology there is an equally powerful good technology. I am aware of substances that reset human genes (ORMES). I am likely to believe that
