Hey arugula, thanks very much for your reply, it was very interesting. I was thinking that, in the case of the person who handles chalk quite often during the day, then perhaps just a protective barrier is needed, and not something that would change the structure or function of the skin. For more general skin problems, then this superficial solution would indeed not be very good. Cheers, J

Hey arugula, it is true that the Eskimo (Inuit) lifespan has increased in the last fifty years, but I was arguing that their health has deteriorated in these fifty years, the two are not necessarily positively correlated. The life of an Eskimo was incredibly harsh before better housing, transport, etc... so it is not surprising they died from other causes than bad health. Modern day Eskimos live

Hey arugula, What do you mean by " Topicals that are not designed to penetrate to the viable dermis"? On a different note, I also think making your own is probably the best and cheapest, as manufactured organic products tend to be quite expensive. I think that a good diet will be the best for your skin, but there can also be topical or local parts of your body which might requi

Here's one that looks pretty good and which a friend on mine is a representative of here in the UK. They sell internationally certified organic skin, hair, body, cosmetic, oral and nutritional products. If you do end up buying something, maybe you could mention that you heard about it through my buddy Michael Watson, UK representative? Cheers, J ps A comparison between a commer

Hi Ken, my sister was diagnosed with lupus a few years ago and managed to get healthy again after about a year of doing a raw food diet. She remains helathy to this day. She didn't do any fasts or anythings like that but she did get plenty of sleep, avoided the sun (which was a trigger for her) and ate plenty of raw fruits and veggies (she didn't lose much weight at all). The idea is to let the b

Hey arugula, thanks for the clarification. I do have one observation I would like to make on the concrete example you looked at. Comparing tomatoes to apples, you commented on the relative abundance of protein and fat in tomatoes compared to an equal calorie serving of apples. I would suggest that this might be due to the greater number of seeds present in the tomatoes, which are likely high i

I had one question that keeps bugging me when I hear about these arguments on "sweet"fruit and "non-sweet" veggies, etc... When I look on nutritiondata, for example, one can see that most vegetables like lettuce, spinach, etc.. and so called "non-sweet" fruit like tomatoes, peppers, cucumber, etc... contain a very high proportion of their calories from sugars, just

Hey ILoveJen, if you go to and look up a particular raw food, they now include an Inflammation Factor rating for it, which includes information on why it is good or bad in terms of reducing inflammation. For the case of romaine lettuce for example, it says "IF Positives: This food contains known anti-inflammatory nutrients, including Beta Carotene, Folate and Vitamin K.". I've had a lo

We are currently living beyond our means - our ecological footprint is 25% greater than the ability of the planet to recycle our waste, according to the report. For those that may put too much faith in these kind of supplements... DHEA no fountain of youth, tests show (AP) -- The fountain of youth apparently does not yet come in a pill. Widely used DHEA supplements and testosterone patches failed to deliver their touted anti-aging benefits in one of the first rigorous studies to test such claims in older men and women. The substances did not

Hi Horsea, thanks, I haven't read that book but I'll keep an eye out for it. Hey jono, thanks, I read his ideas about cancer and they are indeed quite interesting, will find out more about it. I found the way a reputable scientist is ostracised because he investigates ideas outside of the mainstream quite demoralising and sad. A sad state of affairs when the people in control of science fundi

Yes, E-coli contmaination in vegetables and fruit is usually due to some kind of animal manure or animal derived products in the cultivation of the crop. E-coli is indeed found in nature, but in very diluted amounts. It is concentrated in the gut and tissues of sick animals, and if animal manure is used, it can also contmainate produce. Packaged produce tends to be more problematic than bul

I still haven't made my mind up about B12, since absorption plays a big role, and eating animal products may actually hinder this absorption. For those that are keen on B12 supplementation, I beleive the best form of supplement is the sub-lingual methylcobalamin, which is absorbed directly into the bloodstream. I have a kind of speculative theory that our ancestors may have partly absorbed

Hey, sorry to hear about your problems. If I may, I would just like to point out that vegetarianism (ie the absence of flesh foods in the diet) has been proven to be "healthy" over many generations and hundreds of millions of people. So there is really no need to eat meat or fish. If you are not comfortable doing the 100% raw diet then don't. I personally think that it is best to tak

It is the balance of alkaline sources and acid sources that is important for general health, and bone health in particular. Possible alkaline sources: - greens - some fruits - a positive outlook/happiness/joy - light/moderate exercise - sunlight Possible acid sources: - animal products - nuts/seeds/legumes/grains - stress/drugs (legal and illegal)/alcohol - excessive exercise

Hey, I'm not sure if people are aware of this interesting article from a little while ago that published results on the age of human cells in different parts of the body and in different organs. Very interesting and with practical implications - recommend reading it. I'm linking to a NY Times article on it which is pretty easy to read for the lay person. ..... Cells from the muscles of the

One thing that might be useful is to reflect why one experiences anger or frustration when insulted or slighted by others. What is it within ourselves that is so struck by words typed by complete strangers that originates such a strong emotional reaction? As Mr. Mason has said previuosly, and I tend to agree, most of the time hurtful words which we might react to are usually a better indication o

Hey lilsprout, yeah, it's got loads of good info doesn't it. Maybe they don't have them because it is a Canadian website, perhaps they don't sell those products in Canada? I don't really know though, it's hard to have an exhaustive list I guess. Or perhaps those products contain some suspect ingredients? Hey Suzie, hehehe yeah, me too! Especially if I was the youngest of a large family! Che
