You did great with family visiting!! You should give yourself a pat on the back! I mean if all you did was eat some steamed and boiled veggies - that is awesome. I agree, when you give in it is usually disappointing. Not as good as we remembered it to be.

Thanks, pihourova. The main thing is I am experiencing much better blood sugar numbers over all. I often have a bs around 100 or at least under 150. Not always, but a lot more often than when I eat cooked food.

Would applesauce go down easier, rawdanceruk? I know it's not the same, but my son went through a horrible phase when he was younger where he couldn't eat without choking so he mostly lived on applesauce... I agree with others who say it is more important for you to eat something than to be 100% raw at this point. I remember we had to give up on my son eating salads, carrots, and apples during

I remembered what it is in mushrooms that makes them so yummy to us - glutamate. The Asians refer to that as the fifth taste and call it umami. Here is an article on it .

I think one of the things that makes us tired is when our body needs some more energy for digestion and so it takes more energy and that makes us tired. That's why people are tired after a big turkey dinner at thanksgiving. I agree that it could definitely be too many nuts because they take more energy to digest. Those raw food restaurants are great for an occasional treat but their food tends to

Here is my 2 cents on calcium. I am by no means an expert but have been reading nutritional books and newsletters for many years. One important thing is that we can't absorb calcium without Vitamin D. A lot of recent studies are showing that almost everyone is deficient in Vitamin D (which is really a steroid hormone, not a vitamin). Perhaps because we don't get out in the sun enough. Mercola

Good article. We do need to keep it all in perspective. A raw food diet is not the most important thing in the world. It doesn't make us a better person than 'cooked food eaters'. Loving others is much more important than what we eat!

prism, yeah, I bet if I had eaten some of those foods they wouldn't have tasted as good as they used to and they would have also made me feel bad. islandgirl, that's funny. Actually, my mom is not a fantastic cook either so I am probably lucky there also. She just cooks good down home regular meals. I was also never a great cook, so that helps too. ;-) -------------------- Btw, I've been thi

I think I read somewhere that mushrooms help with a craving for meat. There is something in them that satisfies that craving, but I can't remember what it is. If you are tired, it sometimes means your body is borrowing energy for digestion. You may have overeaten something that was hard for your body to digest. The marinated mushrooms and broccoli sound great! I can't eat too many mushroom

prism, I read Matt Monarch's book too and I want to buy his next one when it comes out. The second half that has the interview with that doctor who is a 40 year raw foodist was definitely interesting. My 13 year old daughter tried a raw food diet a few times. The longest she stuck with it was one week and she got very sick and threw up bile like stuff a lot. Hopefully she healed something. Aft

Thanks, pihourova, I have seen the trailer for that raw for 30 days movie and found it interesting. prism, raw foods definitely give us more energy. ------------- Well, it's the last day of our vacation with relatives. We are catching a very early flight in the morning. I was trying to eat up some fruit that my mom bought and my blood sugar got a little high a couple of times and I snapp

Raw food with every meal, that sounds like a good plan and much better than many people eat. I fix my kids fruit with their breakfast also, even now while we are on vacation - along with their yogurt or boiled eggs. I haven't been enforcing the salads with supper as much as usual, but we'll get back to that when we get back home. I have still been giving them apples, carrots, and celery though wi

I'm sorry you had a bad day at work and that people were cruel to you. My sister works at Wal-Mart and I am always shocked at some of the stories she tells me about what people say to her. I sympathize also with your family eating your old favorites while you are eating raw food. I picked up Taco Bell last night for my kids and several relatives last night and it sure looked and smelled good..

prism and pihourova, yes it is tough to stay raw at work. People bring snacks to work and then eating lunch together is the main social event. A coworker even bought me a box of sugar free chocolates for my birthday. It was very nice of her but embarrassing when I admitted that I can't eat them (she asked and I didn't want to lie). And I am so-o-o sick of the 'where do you get your protein' quest

jes, we learn something important everytime we go back to cooked food and realize how much better raw food tastes and makes us feel, don't we? Btw, Matt Monarch (a raw foodist of 8 years) and Fred Bisci (a raw foodist of 40 years) believe that going back and forth between cooked and raw food is very hard on us and believe it would be better to stay on cooked food than to switch back and forth.

Thanks, prism. Watermelon and enemas, both very cleansing. ;-) -------------------------- The person who performed my professional colonic was kinda strange, but it was a very cleansing colonic and I felt great afterwards. She just kept asking me about my diet and talking, talking, talking. I would turn to look at the tube to see what was coming out (it was setup in front of a mirror to make it

Thanks, islandgirl! I bet more fruits, nuts, & veggies will help your hubby. Keep us posted on that. I buy them at an olive bar at the local Whole Foods. Most are pasteurized but a few are unpasteurized and I eat them. You can also buy them online. David Wolfe's website sells some. Hope you can find some, they sure are yummy! ------------- I am off to treat myself to a professional colon

Congrats on trying again! I am on my fourth or fifth try myself - I've lost count. ;-) One month so far this time. Look at it this way though, you learned a lot from those previous tries and, in particular, you have learned two important things: 1) listen to your body - we are all different 2) don't go hungry - the hunger sets off cravings for cooked foods. Consider this your transitional

Raw peanut butter sounds yummy! Maybe treats like that will help to fill you up. Sounds like you should be a raw gourmet cook, because you seem to enjoy it so much. ;-) Me, I am lazy, so I just eat salads and fruit and fruit smoothies -- pretty simple stuff. I like to pick out different veggies and fruits to try though. It is satisfying to only put into your mouth what you prepare and you kno

Isn't it crazy how when we eat healthy people act like we are the weird ones. It's almost like everybody is an alcoholic and the people that don't drink are ridiculed. In fact there was a time when everybody drank corn whisky in the states. Corn was cheap and was easier to transport as liquor. People drank it for breakfast, lunch, and supper and employers provided it at work during the breaks. Th

I hope your toothache gets better. I can understand taking the tylenol - I would do it if I had a horrible headache for instance. I mean we do have to be able to function, don't we? I hope you are able to go to a dentist eventually too. I worry that your tooth infection could go to your gums. Keep us posted on that, please.

Congrats on going raw and feeling better, applebaby. I am sure we will all enjoy your photos. This photo was very nice and whoever it is has pretty eyes! Where do you get your Maca powder? Do you buy that online or at a Whole Foods or something? Thanks!

Hi pampam, Those Takara foot patches have a website that might help to explain them - . They pull toxins out of your body. I think you can buy detox foot patches at Whole Foods too, but they cost more so I buy these online. The instructions say to put them on your feet and you can also put them anywhere on your body where you are hurting. One time I had an old bruise under my big toenail and t

Camping out sounds fun! I used to camp out a lot as a kid but I have never taken my kids camping. I was thinking about buying us a tent for Christmas and start camping next summer. I saw a book online last week that said kids now have nature-deficit disorder. I think I agree with that. You are doing great! Eating raw helps to give us the energy to exercise, doesn't it? Congrats on losing anoth

You are doing great! Ice cream and chocolate are tough ones to eliminate, I love and miss them too. ;-) My substitute for ice cream is a frozen fruit smoothie and I occasionally eat raw chocolate (in a raw bar or in a smoothie or a raw chocolate cherry pudding). I agree with you, we have to rely on some less than perfect things during the transition. Keep it up!

We all do it, it is such a tough addiction to kick. It is also always such a learning experience, isn't it, when we go back to eating the S.A.D.? When I slipped up in the past, I always felt so-o-o guilty - but you're right, what good does that do? I hope you are starting to feel better now and are past the vomiting and headaches. Keep us posted on how you are doing!
