How should pine nuts be soaked and sprouted? In the shell or out?

Hi Enchantress - sorry for the delay. Some days good...some bad. I have successfully gained about 10 lbs on raw in the last 6 months. Mixed feelings about it. One thing I learned this week is I can't compare myself to anyone else as far as what is the "right" thing to eat. Striving to gain another 10 pounds to get back to a healthy weight. Still doing 100% raw.

I only have this happen when I eat fat the night before and it doesn't digest well and then I eat citrus or melons the next morning.

I personally think that even if you shell them yourself you should soak them before eating.

I have also had this problem lately. And I live in California and buy from fruit from farmers at the market! Maybe they are picked a little early and refrigerated....

Hi Gemmer - I have found Raw From the Farm to have great quality, consciencious customer service, great prices, and good environmental practices. They are also raw foodists and are very detailed regarding the quality of their products.

Hi Sewraw - thanks for the response! No, I am all too aware of the "rules". Just looking for some raw recipes that follow them. I can look through the many raw books I have and see if any meet those guidelines. However, with all of the focus in the raw food movement about how important it is to follow correct food combining, I thought there has got to be at least 1 book or websit

I was reading an interview today that discussed a question I have had for a while and I wanted to see what the folks on here think. The discussion was around whether nuts and seeds should be soaked. The thought was that it was great if they germinate because of all the benefits you get from that. However, if they don't germinate (like a lot of pumpkin seeds, broken/chipped nuts, walnuts, pecan

I saw this post on another site and thought I would ask it here. Does anyone know of any sites/books of properly combined recipes (i.e. proper food combining guidelines are followed)?

Thanks Coco. Yes, I am familiar with the creature from the flax lagoon... However, I was more asking about the healthiest approach rather than the non-grossest approach.

Hello! I am confused about flax and hemp seeds. I have read that they don't need to be soaked (and some say that hemp seeds shouldn't be soaked). For flax, some say soak OR grind. My thought is that if you grind, the inhibitors are still present. Are flax and hemp different from other seeds, and if so, what makes them different from all other nuts and seeds? Thanks!

I always dump the soak water, but have read that the water neutralizes the inhibtors so that they are no longer an issue after soaking.

Thanks for the reply David! I find this happens periodically when I have just fruit or salad with lemon/lime juice (not veggies by themselves) for dinner, so I don't think it was the particular one I ate. Also, I always eat only ripe fruit. My diet has been so clean for so long that it seems weird that I would feel bad after eating just fruit or salad with lemon juice and that it would be a

Hello, I have been eating only fruit and greens this past week. I don't think it is the best diet for me as am not sleeping well, very tired, anxious, and waking up with a sore throat. Has anyone experienced a sore throat in the morning when eating fruit the night before?

Bryan - thank you. So much of what you said is what I need to hear right now. I have been 100% raw for a number of years, trying different approaches to it (mono, low-fat, not low-fat, etc) and get quite caught up in doing it "right." When I don't feel good, I immediately go back to that and read posts about people saying that you MUST eat low fat, or don't eat past noon, or don't
