I was just going to post a question about fasting! Can I ask some of your advice since you have been fasting already for 6 days? Have you ever fasted on just water? What is the rationale for doing a 30 day juice fast? What types of juices are you drinking? What changes have you noticed so far? This is day #1 for me and all I have had is water and green tea. I am going to try to fast for 2-3 da

Thanks for your support, Danielle. How exciting that you didn't lose any fitness from not running. It sounds like you have been working out a lot, so it makes sense that it was easy for you to get back into running. My friend suggested a wine bar instead. He is taking me out, so I didn't want to be a pain. But now I really don't want to break my fast on some wine! Hmmm...maybe I'll order a

Soraya: Glad to hear you are back on track. I know how tough it can be to do so after you feel like you have gone off the deep end. But getting back on track right away is great!! Quick check in for me: I didn't manage to drink all of those Smart Waters at school -- guess I was being overly ambitious. So far today I have had 2L of smart water & a large cup of green tea. I also swam a

Oh, I forgot to do an actual check-in :-). I woke up this morning feeling like crap from the cooked food that I ate at the shabbat dinner. This one was particularly challenging because it was with people that i didn't now. I actually did not know one single person, and it was in Baltimore (took me almost 2 hours to get there!). There were a bunch of different courses and it was quite a fanc

Hi Pam: I have been following your 10 (or was it 11?) day fast. Amazing! I think that is so impressive that you were able to fast for so long! I don't know if I could do it. How did you do it? What did you tell yourself when you got really hungry? I am thinking of trying a fast as well. I am 28 years old, 5'9" and weigh about 165lbs. I know, probably in my healthy weight range, but hig

Sounds great, Amy! I like that word -- snacky! I think I will use it. What do you ladies think of fasting? I noticed that Pampam fasted for 10-11 days and ended up losing 24 pounds in 3 weeks! I think I am going to ask her how she feels about it. I think that fasting for a few days could be a good way for me to re jump start my raw food program. I have been pretty discouraged about not losin

Hi Ladies: Well, I couldn't go the whole weekend without checking in with you. So, I am back! I went to the school counseling center today to do an intake. It was great, and I felt so empowered when I left. I think seeing someone and talking about my feelings will really help things a lot. I just feel much better now than I did on Wednesday. Food-wise I would rather not say. My "dive

Hi Ladies: I need to take a break from blogging about this for a couple of days. I am going to a Shabbat dinner on Friday night and will be staying with my sister for a couple of days. I don't feel well and am going to try to fast on green tea and water for a couple of days. I'll come back Sunday or Monday. Have a nice weekend!

I think I may have found a panacea for my unhappiness. Not sure, but we will see. After going swimming, instead of going back to law school or going home, I stayed on the main campus (about a mile away from the law school) and did work there. The atmosphere was MUCH better than the law school, it was a nice escape, and I felt super productive. I think I really just need to get out of that bui

Thanks for the positive encouragement, ladies. Danielle, what you wrote really spoke to me -- you are right nothing is permanent. The first 1.5 years of law school just flew by, so I am sure the rest will be done in a flash. I just need to try to focus on appreciating all of the good things about it (there actually are good things about law school, believe it or not!). I had a mini break-do

Thanks for your kind words, Soraya. I appreciate the positive support. I know that this is a temporary situation, but sometimes it feels like law school will never end. Why do so many parents pressure their children to go to law school? Most law students (and lawyers) are miserable. Don't they want their children to be happy? Every person who asks me about law school and tells me that they ar

Hi Ladies: It is wonderful to come home and know that I can blog with all of you in the evening. I RARELY talk about being raw anymore since I know I can do all of my raw food thought processing here. Danielle: I am really happy to hear that you won't need to deal with those medical bills! I am looking forward to hearing about how thing have been going with Adam. Def. keep us updated. Am

Amy: I am so glad to hear that your foot is feeling better! Yay for raw food :-). Out of curiosity, what is your 2-minute speech about being raw? I basically say something along the lines of "when you cook food it destroys the enzymes and is more difficult for your body to digest, stays in your body longer, etc. The longer food stays in your system, the more toxins build up. Also, it is

Okay, quick check in before bed. Here is my grand total: Food summary for the day: -3 apples -lara bar -2 bananas -cucumber & red pepper -1 slice of tomato & 1 piece of Basil -2 apples, banana, carrots & sprouted chick peas Yes, quite random, I know. But I got hungry later on and am VERY out of food. I'll probably need to buy my lunch at school for the next couple of

Amy: Sounds like you had a fantastic trip! I am glad that you enjoyed yourself so much! Also sounds like you did a great job staying mostly raw in a somewhat challenging situation. I am SO sorry to hear about your ankle. I know exactly how you feel -- that's how I felt when I hurt myself on New Year's Eve in Israel. It is a KILLER not to be able to work out when you want to. Rest, ice it, and

Okay, so I just nibbled on a few baby carrots and olives. Guess I AM pretty hungry :-). Well, I successfully made it through week 1+ of February 100% raw. I am going to try to eat almost all fruits and vegetables for week #2. I might want a Lara bar here and there (or even 1 a day). However, I am going to really to try to focus on sticking to just fruits and vegetables, while cutting out mos

Insight is a beautiful thing. Thank you for your thoughts, Soraya and Danielle. It is tough out in the real world, and quite a comfort that I can come home and share my raw food experiences with you :-). Today at a housewarming party my friend asked me, "Becky, how much would I have to pay you to eat a Cheeto?" I didn't quite know how to answer the question. I mean, I could eat a

Hi Soraya: I think wild forays sometimes come with the territory. It is really tough to be "on" 100% of the time. I am glad to see that you are being kind and understanding with yourself. Also, clarity can be painful sometimes, but it is necessary as well. Danielle: I hope you feel better soon! Wow, you must be getting so skinny. Are you okay? Exciting to buy new jeans, I am sure

Hi Ladies: Quick check in before bed. Shabbat dinner went well. It was actually a reunion for the people that I went to Israel with, so they already knew about my "weird" eating habits. I was a bit worried about the hostess, but there were so many people she didn't even notice. At dinner I ate all of the raw stuff: bagged iceberg salad (blech) & purple cabbage, avocado salad (a

Amy: I am so happy to hear that you are getting out, being active, and enjoying all of the beauty that Thailand has to offer. No worries at all about the cooked food and tofu -- sounds like you needed it and it was really healthy! I know what you mean about feeling anxiety around upcoming social events. However, being a raw foodist should give us joy, not anxiety. I have been trying to f

oh, I also wanted to write about shabbat dinner for tomorrow. I will be going to a rabbi's house who keeps kosher, so I won't be able to bring food. I think this will, in some ways, be more challenging than last week and, in some ways, less. More challenging: I don't know if there will be anything for me to eat. I think I'll try to eat a mostly full dinner before I go (i.e. big salad) so th

Danielle: I am glad that you took a day off of work. It sounds like you sure needed it! Are you feeling better? Quick food check-in: -a few sips of that yucky smoothie (almond milk, hemp powder, spinach, dates) -apple -1/2 salad (greens, red & yellow pepper, cucumber, sprouted chick peas & olives with raw ACV) -apple -other half of the salad -small box of raisins & a few

Amy: That sounds delicious!! This morning I realized I was out of bananas, so I decided to try something creative: smoothie with raw almond milk, raw hemp protein, dates, and spinach. It was DISGUSTING! I could barely get it down, and ended up throwing half of it away. Sad because the almond milk and hemp protein is not cheap, but I really could not stomach it. I think I am going to just st

Once I get through tomorrow, I will have completed my first we

I entered that list into Fitday, just to see how many calories that is: 1483. I think keeping my calories around 1500 is probably good for now, since I have a decent workout 5-6 times a week. I plan to eat roughly the same thing every day (I actually really like the routine for now), weigh myself March 1 and then determine whether I should keep it the same or eliminate an item or two from the l

Danielle: Sorry you aren't feeling well :-(. Hope you feel better! Amy: Sounds like you are doing great -- keep it up! Well, I have decided that I am allowed to eat whenever I want for now. I will slowly cut back eating at night as I get more and more settled into my 100% rawness. I also realized that many times I ate yesterday, I wasn't really all that hungry -- I just ate because I fel

Soraya: to answer your question, I usually begin eating about 8am and eat pretty much throughout the day. This was today, for example (times approximate) -8am smoothie (1 c raw almond milk, 1.5 bananas, 4 TBSP of raw hemp protein powder) -10am apple -noon lara bar -2pm 1/2 big salad with the usual (spinach, cherry tomatoes, celery, carrots, peppers, sprouted chick peas) & banana -4pm

I also think that you have a very healthy appreciation for all of the gifts that you have in the world. I still think your idea to join the LAPD is a fantastic one!
