Oddly enough I have found that people have more questions about me not eating meat than the fact that I eat raw. Everybody seems to expect a vegetarian to eat tons of fruits and veggies, so when I want a salad for dinner instead of a steak, nobody wants to know why I eat raw, they just think it's so crazy that I don't eat meat. I tend to point to my family history of heart attacks, strokes, and i

Maui so far I have not liked coconuts either. Even before I learned about raw I was always a very picky eater. That's one of the things I'm struggling with as far as staying raw. I like a lot of fruits and some veggies, but not much beyond that. I'm hoping as I stick with this longer my tastes will change. I honestly had never even tried an avacado until this. I had my first mango 3 years ago whe

I eat like 6 bananas a day. I think I'm going to have to learn to like avacados, nuts, and seeds. I hope as I go more raw I'll develop a taste for these things. Right now they just taste terrible to me though.

Sunflower Market mostly(I think they are only in the west). They don't have the selection of Whole Foods but are much less expensive. I hit them up for everything I can and then go to Whole Foods for the rest.

From my understanding of things most food cravings stem from your body needing some kind of nutrition that it's not getting. Correct me if I'm wrong on that. Now I expect to have crazy cravings since I'm pregnant, but honestly the meat and cheese cravings are surprising me a bit. Meat makes my stomach hurt and so does dairy, but when I'm hungry it's all I can think about. I had two chicken ta

Feeling pretty good today. I get out of my routine on the weekend, but during the week I do really well. I'm going for walks on all my breaks, drinking my smoothie and generally enjoying myself today, other than the actual work part of my day. We have a massage therapist that comes in ever other week and does chair massages, so I got a 15 minute massage day and that was SO great. Of course you h

Thanks so much. I need some encouragement right now. I ate a bunch of junk food this weekend when I went to the movies, popcorn, cookies, iceee..ewww.. and feel like total crap right now. Thankfully I tend to take after my mom and so far have no morning sickness, which I would expect after eating that garbage. It's terrible that the things that are so bad for you taste so good. I'm trying to re

I have a $30 blender from Target and a $50 Jack LaLanne juicer, not very pricey and I was using the blender before I went raw anyway. The blender is fine, it's no Vitamix but it makes my fruit smoothies and green smoothies every day just fine so far.

I'm pretty new to raw and don't like green smooothies either. This morning I am drinking my usual fruit smoothie with a little bit of kale added. Ingredients: bag of frozen cherries(please no flack for the frozen fruits, it makes it easy for me!) bag of mangoes bag of peaches about 10 strawberries 3 bananas 2 leaves of kale You really can't taste the kale when you do it this way. I c

I need to learn to like avocados I think. I'm really not getting enough fat in my diet unless I eat non-raw foods. Yesterday I had a bunch of feta cheese which is no good, but I was craving it and I knew I needed fat. But I really don't like raw nuts, other than the almonds off my tree, which is not producing any right now and I don't like avocados...there has to be a way to blend them in with so

I was just about to post this. I'm the exact same boat. I'm getting ready to get some supplements because I am just at a loss. I also find that I don't have much of an appetite and have to really stuff myself to get in even the 1200 calories a day that I've been getting. I know I have to do more and it seems like I'm ending up eating cooked food to get there and even dairy which I'd really rath

Tee, I started out with a pretty similar diet to you. I've always eaten meat and junk food and pretty much whatever I wanted. I was a smoker too. When I read about raw foods it just made so much sense to me that I knew I had to do it. I started off replacing one meal a day with fruit. I've always loved bananas, so having 2 or 3 bananas for breakfast instead of a bowl of cereal was pretty easy.

I emailed the company I buy my frozen fruits and veggies from most often, which is Cascadian Farms and Muir Glen Organic. This is the response I got: Thank you for contacting Small Planet Foods with your inquiry. All of our vegetables are blanched (heated at a high temperature in water) prior to freezing. The frozen fruit is rinsed during the processing of freezing. This does a very eff

I didn't drink coffee but I used to drink of 5 liters of cola a day before I went raw. I really never thought I could give it up but I did. Honestly the first couple days I felt like I was going to die at work. I think caffeine was the only thing keeping me awake. My withdrawal was about 2 solid weeks of headaches. I made smoothies every morning and still do. I started going for a walk every tim

I live in Phoenix, so we have tons of citrus that I can go pick pretty much anywhere I want. Angie I'm doing the same thing you're doing..even if it is blanched it gets me in the habit of eating a lot of fruit and I'm putting in more and more non frozen stuff every day. We have a big stand up freezer that we used to store meat in. Since I gave all the meat away it's just sitting empty and unplu

I live in the Phoenix area. I think you and skinniehippie are the only people in Arizona on here right now besides me. Either of you know any restaurants in Phoenix that serve raw food?

110. Smoothies
Just wondering what kind of smoothies everyone drinks. I guess I'm looking for some new ideas. I make myself a fruit smoothie almost every morning from cherries, strawberries, peaches, mangos and bananas and drink it throughout the day. It's one of the easiest ways I've found to get enough calories in on a raw diet. Anyone else? Green smoothies ideas?

Sandra I still don't like avocados. I'm hoping I'll come around to liking them because I need some sources of fat in my diet and right now don't have much at all. We get the Haas Avacados and my husband swears they are delicious, but I can't stand them so far. Maybe once I'm raw for longer I will.

My brain feels like mush today so this will probably be rambly and nonsensical. I feel like I'm in a brain fog or something. I don't know what's wrong with me. I feel tired and my stomach just feels weird..like I ate too much, but in reality I've had a banana and some raisins and haven't wanted anything else. I'm having some crazy cravings. Usually when I crave cooked food it's healthy thing

sunshine, thank you so much for sharing this. I did some research on magnesium after reading this and have printed out a list of foods rich in magnesium with a reminder to myself to have some every day. I'm really glad you were able to find this out and help yourself get better.

Gonna start with a disclaimer, because I really know NOTHING about this. I gardened when I was going up in Chicago and planted lots of trees but it's SO different out here. The soil is weird and I can't seem to make things grow. I think I'm planting at the wrong time and basically not doing anything right! I've planted a couple trees and other than the citrus they've all died. I want to plant a

We just started composting too and I'm really excited about it(I'm kind of a dork, lol). The city that we live in actually takes a recycling bin and punches big holes in it and calls that a free compost bin. Kind of cheesy but whatever..it's free. So with all the raw foods we are eating this four foot tall bin is filling up fast! My husband put some chicken wire around it so the dogs won't get in

Well here I go. I noticed there were several ladies posting about recently being pregnant and struggling with or having a lot of questions about being and staying raw during their pregnancy. So I thought I would start a thread where we can all post and talk about how we're doing and bounce ideas off each other. Anyone who happens to have input, answers or comments is welcome to post too of course

I have noticed that there are quite a few of us who are suddenly pregnant posting a lot lately. On that note, I thought I'd start a pregnancy blog/diary in the blog area so we can chit chat about experiences/cravings/ways to stay healthy, basically anything going on with us. Feel free to add to it at any time with questions or comments you might have. I would love to chat with other women going

oshinn I am right there with you. I just found out I am pregnant as well. I've been in the process of slowly transitioning to 100% raw over the past few months and just found out I was pregnant this weekend. I think I can handle the detox since I've already been mostly doing it, but I'm worried about getting enough of the right nutrients, mainly because I'm a very picky eater and don't like a l

Damn! I've been so proud of myself with my smoothies I've been making from frozen fruits and veggies. Well I guess I will have to take another look at the budget and see if we can afford fresh everything.
