Excellent point, Simple Living! What about this - if you could interview the prison population, and find out what percentage of people who are imprisoned for having committed violent crimes against other people, I wonder what percentage of those would be vegetarian / vegan / raw or any variation of ...? I'm guessing not many, but you never know. On the other hand, I believe I read somewh

I had a bad experience with an iridologist too. I found it interesting that he "saw" that I had had my tonsils out as a child, but he didn't notice that I had several health problems that were much more significant (like my mastectomoy?). He failed to notice that I had ever experienced cancer, but told me that my colon was in poor health. Fortunately for me, he just happened to sell s

Hi bostonhill: So sorry to hear your sad news, I am sending you and your mom prayers. When I was undergoing my chemotherapy for breast cancer, one of my naturopaths suggested a product for me to take during my chemotherapy. I don't know what it did to me in terms of my cancer - this is, my cancer seems to be gone at this point, and five years have passed, but who can really say whether it

Hi Tee and welcome: I also have four kids - all in their teens, so I totally know how that is. I wouldn't even try telling them to change their eating habits, I have found a more subtle approach to work best. So, I still prepare many of the foods they are used to, but offer lots of healthier choices as well. For example, they love when I send a baggie of veggies and dip instead of a sandw

I'd like to say that I agree with Bruce (baltochef). Any machine is only going to work correctly if you use it correctly. I always add my frozen stuff or ice last. I hadn't thought about it being better for the machine, but it just seems to blend better. Also, if I hear the motor struggling I immediately add more water to the mix. Both times my machine got broken, I was away, and it wa

I know what your husband means about that watery feeling - when I was first transitioning, I really missed that cooked full feeling. A couple of things I found that helped were: a banana mono-meal - simply eat as many bananas as you can, until you are just stuffed - as far as raw goes, that is very filling in a non-watery kind of way. (and for me anyway, it seems to keep me full for a long tim

That sounds backwards to me. My understanding was that enzymes are helpful if you eat a cooked meal. Raw meals are full of enzymes, so this doesn't sound right to me. I went to the health food store and looked, and there are several types of enzymes, but I thought it was interesting that some of them were derived from things like papaya and pineapple - I'd prefer to just eat the fruit. I've been using my vita-mix for over 12 years to make frozen ice creams and things with ice cubes without ever a problem. I have had a couple of minor unrelated problems over the years with my machine, and I have to say that the customer service has always been excellent, and my problems have been taken care of in a timely and efficient manner. They advertise one of the features of their bl

Well... had a good weekend, even if I am feeling totally disabled! I made a wonderful discovery at the mall on Sunday - bar shampoo - way easier to wash my hair one-handed now, what a relief. One new development that is really surprising me, and I don't know if it means anything. I broke my pinky finger about 5 years ago in the same hand as my broken arm. The last two days it has been achin

I am so sorry to read your sad news. All I can suggest is to support your brother in law in any ways that he needs support. Advice may or may not be welcome right now, but we always need our loved ones. You are in my prayers.

Hi all: Arm is a little uncomfortable today, and I am sure it is because I didn't sleep late enough this morning - woke up too early, and couldn't get back to sleep. Amazing how restorative a good nights' sleep can be! The good news is that I can straighten out my fingers today, and they seem to be a little stronger. But only in one certain way - I can grasp things, but can't move them - f

Hi Claire: I gotta confess - I get accused of being weird and abnormal several times a day: "OMG mom, why can't you keep all our fruit in the fridge like NORMAL people, it looks like a fruit truck exploded in here!" "OMG. mom, none of my NORMAL friends have to help with dishes!!" "OMG, all the NORMAL parents just give their kids their own cellphone." &

Hi Suvine, Sorry to hear you had to have surgery - hope you are all right now. I believe I read somewhere that the Gerson Therapy does good things about scar tissue. Most people are more familiar with it because of the cancer treatments, but I am sure I read somewhere about a staff member having some facial scar tissue just disappear after following the protocol for a time. Sorry, I can't

Welcome Vic!! If you are looking towards losing a bit of weight and maintaining an athletic lifestyle, you may find the 80/10/10 program very helpful. I bought the book, and I really like it, although I don't always keep my ratios just so. But if you are starting out, check out this raw food diary. I bet you will find it extremely interesting, even if only to compare your experiences:

Hi everyone, and thanks again for the great thoughts! I had some figs yesterday, and really liked them! I don't eat a lot of dates, they seem cloyingly over-sweet to me, and somehow I imagined figs would be the same. Not at all though, they were really good, and strangely familiar, I must have had them before and not realized it or something. I had such a laugh last night. I discovered I

About a week ago, my youngest daughter was bounding up the stairs in her normal 16-yr-old high energy way, and at the same time I was walking down the hallway at the top of the stairs. Well. when she got to the top, she unexpectedly grabbed the newell post and swung herself around in a very fast circle, and collided head on with me. Nearly knocked me out cold! I saw stars and blackness. Onc

So I was out walking my dog, and slipped on some ice halfway around the lake, and fractured my arm!! Way out along the trail, I really had little choice but to walk the three km back to where I parked my truck, load my big dog on board, and drive him home using only my left hand. Then I grabbed my purse, and drove myself to emergency. I am amazed how calm I stayed, and even though it hurt

Has anyone been following the Steve Pavlina blog about his 30 day raw trial? He's doing an 80/10/10 and keeping a journal of all kinds of information as he goes, I am finding it fascinating! Here's the link - raw journal I am totally impressed at how well he is doing. I have tried to reduce my fat intake after buying Dr. Graham's book, but I find I just get too many cravings. Guess I'

Hi blackfoot98! I know exactly what you are talking about - I also live with a family of all kinds of different eaters. But I think one of the worst things is to label yourself or anyone, and this is why: Several years ago, my husband's dad was coming to stay with us for a visit. He knew I was a vegetarian, and I guess I never really realized just how nervous that whole thing made him. A

Hi and welcome otis: I totally understand what you are saying. It can become such a vicious cycle, and the more you have to lose or the more improvements you need to make, the more discouraged you can get - been there!! It's so overwhelming! All I can say is to try to start with smaller goals - maybe you don't have to be one-hundred percent raw, two hours a day at the gym, totally committ
