Your mom is so lucky to have you to help her through this! I just wanted to say, about the red wine thing. There are countless different chemotherapy drugs, a lot of people don't know that. I had to take three different ones, two by injection and one orally as I mentioned above. Each one had it's own laundry list of side effects, and then all the other medication that I had to take to comba

Hi smilingrawdancer!! So sorry to hear about your mom, that is such a difficult time in a person's life, I wish her a good journey and a good recovery. I had to go through chemo a few years ago, and there are some challenges. For one thing, a lot of your old favorite foods can suddenly become revolting to you. You could not have paid me to eat chocolate during my chemo, or anything fried

Exercise goes a long way, that's for sure. I thought this lady was amazing and inspiring, and I can't find any information as to whether she follows any special diet, but whatever she is doing, it seems to be working pretty great 89 Yr old Track and Field Participant

We haven't put that law forward here in BC yet, but I am sure it will just be a matter of time. I know when we banned public smoking in buildings, there was such an uproar. All the pubs said they were going to lose their shirts and so on, yet we have the lowest percentage of smokers in all of Canada here (I think). One thing that had kept my family away from pubs and restaurants for years is

I notice that it has been in the news lately that some provinces in Canada are making it illegal to smoke in your vehicle if you are transporting your kids. Great idea in my opinion. I am just curious - is this happening anywhere else, or has it already happened? What are the views in the different states in the US or in the UK, or elsewhere? Sorry if this is a dumb question, but the news h

People are funny.... My mom went on a rant one day about how it is so important never to eat corn, because it is a starch, and it will make you so incredibly FAT!!! Bad bad stuff !!! I smiled, and said it is a plant, and as a plant, if I can eat it without cooking it, it must be okay (although, to tell the truth, I don't really like corn all that much). She thought I am nuts, and yet, I

I am a little confused also. On the news last night, they said that washing the tomatoes wasn't enough, that the salmonella was still a problem. But it doesn't make sense to me - this should only be a surface contamination which can be washed off, even if you do get a bad one. (shouldn't it ???) Something else I don't understand - if they are able to narrow this supposedly huge problem do

They are so addicting, aren't they?? I bought some the other day, and the poor cashier must have never seen them before. She picked up the bag, and as soon as she saw (and felt) what was in it, she dropped it like a hot potato and jumped about two feet off the ground. Poor thing, all the blood drained out of her face, and I was trying so hard not to laugh too much, while reassuring her it wa

I came across this the other day, and if it works as claimed, it sounds pretty good to me, but the reviews seem mixed. Seems it can clean your fruits and veggies in a pretty spectacular way.... (and also your home) Has anyone here tried one? Lotus System Thanks!!

Hi Lois: I am a Canadian and a cancer survivor. My experience of our system here is that I received timely and professional treatment - surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. During the months of my treatments, much of my on-line research came from American web-sites, and I never got the impression that they were any further advanced in their approach than us. Any time I came across somethi

LOL I constantly make that mistake - calling them all cookbooks, when so many of my recipe books are RAW!! Have to keep correcting myself! I still say I am cooking my dinner too, even though nothing gets actually heated! Old habits! This thread got me - now I have gone and ordered the 80/10/10 recipe book - and I had promised myself not to get any more, I have enough already. Hello, m

I don't know if this will work for anyone else, but I used to get bleeding gums, and my naturopath suggested that I use a product called Cellfood. It's some kind of oxygen drops, you can google it for all the information. It's loaded with minerals and enzymes and stuff, too detailed to list. He recommended it to me for a completely unrelated reason, but within days of using it my bleeding gum

Pistachio - You are right, this can be used for not very positive purposes, but what you are saying reminds me of a comment in a book I read recently - once your eyes are opened, you can't close them again. I learned some time ago that pretty much all prescription drugs exist only to suppress the symptoms of whatever problem they are prescribed for. Suppress all you want, it doesn't do a thing

This is great!! I'd like to challenge some of the amazingly intelligent and creative people on this thread to help come up with some unique and irresistable names for everyday ordinary raw foods - wish I was more creative. I would really use them - mostly on my friends and family. I think it would be great to tell somebody I am eating something that just sounds so appealing that they can't

Years ago I read an article about a retired chef who decided to launch a healthy meals program in a local high school. He was revolted by the poor quality food they were serving up, and knew he could do much better, and he did. But even though the meals were delicious and nutritious, the kids weren't crazy about them until he gave each menu item a very cool name that sounded appealing to the

I have a recipe I like for marinated mushroom stuffed raw cabbage rolls. I don't get to make it often because my kids won't touch mushrooms with a ten foot pole. But one day, I had some people over and included my recipe in the supper I made. But, I know how afraid people are that I might force them or worse yet, trick them to eat raw food, and who knows how frightening this is for them, so I

I haven't found cooked food to smell bad to me yet, but I am around it a lot since my family is cooked. (Right now, I just pulled a batch of chocolate chip banana muffins out of the oven, and my house smells really good - but that's ok, because I'm about to fix myself a banana cacao smoothie, so we will all be quite happy.) But, since I have been raw, my meals for the whole family seems to be

I went to a workshop put on by a local naturopath a few weeks ago, and he started talking about diet. A lot of what he had to say was great - organic vs non-organic, for instance, but I asked him to comment on the raw food diet. His response was that it was very bad for the digestion. So I dropped the subject. I do not like to debate this with anyone. But it is interesting that a naturop

I know this isn't a cookbook, but it does one thing that I love - the recipes are tried and commented on and rated by people, so you get an idea before you try. Plus, there are usually pictures and there are so many... Try this out: RAW RECIPES Good luck!

Thank you so much for sharing your story sunshine79. I had never heard of this magnesium problem before, so it is great to be informed. It seems logical to me that if zeolite is a great detoxifier, it shouldn't be needed over a long term. You should get to a point that you are nicely detoxed, and then you should not need it.

My favorite way to disagree with someone is to be totally agreeable. (it's a trick I learned from my husband. It's nearly impossible to pick a fight with him, he's a genius!) So if someone was picking on me for eating apples for lunch, it might go like this: Person: Ewww, you eating nothing but apples for lunch?? (very disapproving voice) Me: I KNOW!! Isn't is surprising? If you

Hi Lanie, Just a thought, but personally, before having anything shipped to me from far away, I would probably go to a local garden store if you have one, and see if they have anything. I haven't bought aloe for years, so I don't know how popular it still might be, but even here in Canada, I am sure we used to easily buy it at any garden store. Good luck!

Boy, oh boy, Brian, I have to admit, I laughed reading your post. I am sure it must have been rough on you, but what a boy, and what luck - if it wasn't for bad luck, you would have had no luck at all!!! Your poor mom!! Quite the story. I know exactly what you mean, my first reaction when I realized my toe was broken was to think it was funny. Probably my own just desserts for thinking I a

I finally got my cast off my broken arm on Friday - six long and frustrating weeks, but I was so excited at the prospect of getting about 500 things done that have been falling behind. Never did I expect that as soon as the cast came off, the pain would suddenly get really bad again. They assured me that was normal - did the x-ray again and showed me the break - it still shows up. Said it wo

I think the best anyone can really do is try to figure out what works best for you personally. I bought a bag of cacao, and wasn't crazy about it. Not really surprising though, considering I was never much of a chocolate addict. I like flax, the crackers are tasty, and often they give me a good substitute for other much less healthy things that might tempt me. Miracle food? I doubt it.

Not a stupid question at all - many people aren't familiar with wheatgrass. Fresh juiced is best, but you will either need a wheatgrass juicer, vitamix, or a juicer that can handle wheatgrass (I don't think a centrifugal juicer can handle it). If you have one of the above, here's what I do: I went to the health food store and purchased some organic wheat berries - told them I wanted to grow

All the above posts are excellent. I would like to add that I suggest you support her and her beliefs with as much enthusiasm and respect as you would like your beliefs supported. Listen to what she has to say, and remember to hear it not as something you have to do, but rather something that she feels is working great for her. Congratulate her on finding what works. Try not to discuss

Thanks for the clarification rost0037. I should have probably not even made the comment, because even if Hitler was a vegetarian (albeit part-time), he wasn't motivated by compassionate reasons, so it isn't a fair comparison. As for the death penalty, I have never had a loved one violently murdered. I don't honestly know what it would take for me to feel that justice had been served in that
