Meleakua, I'm happy for you. Sounds like you are having fun in your new yard. You can make tea w/ your cat nip. I've read it's supposed to be good for insomnia. Kit

dvdai, Thanks for the blueberry info. imfree, You are right about the polination. That's why I planted the four varieties mentioned above. The Sunshine and the Patriot are still producing but have slowed down. The other two the are growing but did not produce. I think it's because I neglected them last year. They seem to like getting kelp meal. Kit

124. Cat Menu
Greetings to all you fellow humans w/ cats. We have a handsom 8 yr old tuxedo cat. Last night we began giving him some raw fish for dinner & he really liked it. He used to get conventional dry & wet food and he had bad dandruff. We switched to Newman's Own kibble in the AM & Whole Foods brand canned wet in the evening. It's more costly but his dandruff cleared up. Now we are

I hooked up with a group in California in the hopes of getting involved and learning about the above issues. However they are currently dealing mainly w/ a pesticide issue that is also important. But I am trying to stick to one or two things at a time, like Codex and GE seeds. It ticks me off that we have to run all around trying to find basic information about our food supply that ought to b

DO NOT READ THIS if you do not want to be involved in the health of yourself and others! Kwan, I hope you will not be offended. These are all excerpts from your above post. I honestly believe many people will not have or take the time to read all of it. Thank You so much for this post AND I notice you have also written in it! If Codex standards ever replace U.S. food and food-supplement

kwan, You lucky girl, great news. I know what you mean about having to make choices concerning price of produce. If you like red peppers I hope you will have a chance to grow some yourself. If you leave regular green peppers on the plant they usually turn to red peppers. Voila, magic! Anaken, I like your comment about bargain grapes. Kit

Thank You for the article Bryan. Yesterday I heard Alyson Mitchell, who led the research, interviewed on radio. She seemed to think it had a lot to do w/ fertilizer. Commercial fertilizer gives the plant lots of nitrogen right away which tends to make the plant grow quickly. Organic fertilizer (compost etc.) has the plant taking longer to get it's nutrients so it tends to be more chemic

Hi la_veronique, Ladybugs lay yellowish/orange colored eggs usually on the underside of leaves. They have hungry larva that are orange and black or charcoal grey kind of like Halloween colors. They look to me like little Gila Monsters. I don't think they tend to their brood after the eggs are laid for I only ever see the eggs and active larva by themselves. The larva eat aphids for o

Irradiation may be presented to the public as mainly a healthful, sanitary procedure but I'm seeing it mostly as a benefit for businesses. I suppose I can't blame them for wanting that longer shelf life & being able to use slower, cheaper transportation. That's business. But just because the product will be delivered, will last longer, may be cheaper for retailers & would create more i

rainbowgrl, If you know you are doing better now w/ your diet then how are you going to feel if you give up just because you are so effected by their feelings? For what it's worth I am finding it very helpful to NOT tell others I am "going raw". If anyone comments on my diet I just say I'm trying to eat more produce. That doesn't seem so weird to people especially since it's ad

Jgunn, Thank You for reminding us of what it sometimes takes death to make us realize. Regarding your friend, I have a suspicion we tend to go or return to somewhere nice when we die. Even so, six days after retirement seems ill timed. Kit

Hi luvmyveggies, My job is very physical. I'm up at 4:30 am and I've found it worthwhile to prepare nice food for work on the night before. I have three breaks in my workday so it's fruit for two breaks. A large container of cut up strawberries or watermelon spoon slices or orange slices etc. I want it ready to eat since breaks are all too short. Not lots of time to peel citrus for instance

Geeze kwan, You look absolutely gorgeous. Health Care and Cosmetic industries may not want us getting into raw foods and having access to healthy produce if too many people are going to look that good and healthy. They may stand to lose some business! Kit

rawdanceruk, I don't know what crohns is or what the situation was w/ it affecting your ability to work. I do wonder what business your diet is to your boss. At my job I decided not to breath a word of my raw food transition. Some have commented at break "You're eating healthy" etc. I keep it low key and say "Yeah, I'm trying to eat more salads". If all the guys kn

Once upon a time I read that mosquitoes are attracted to and more often bite people who eat a lot of sweets. As someone who was highly bitten by mosquitoes AND over consuming sweets this was always of interest to me. Mosquitoes drove me crazy w/ biting. I wondered if what I read was true but since I could never give up sweets I couldn't know if it applied in my case. In the Spring of

I'm glad you all enjoyed the picture. Please forgive my tardiness in responding. I always look forward to seeing what is posted. I'm just not always on here daily. It is indeed the west coast, much farther north than Oceanside. It was high tide in the evening 5:30 or 6:00ish. Low tide seems to be in the mornings. After work I took a short walk to where the photo was taken. The rocks in the

Hi meow, I'll only answer what I know. I don't take supplements. I've had bouts of taking them in the past but they never seemed to benefit me in noticeable ways. Perhaps if my diet hadn't of been atrocious they might have had a chance! I'm in the sun a lot. I used to use sun block trying many brands looking for one that wouldn't clog my skin and feel creepy. I think the one I liked best w
