I'm having a really hard time stretching the budget. Our household income has decreased dramatically. I may have to give up the frozen wheatgrass. My daughter has had good results with adding wheatgrass to her smoothies. It's just so expensive $15.75 for a 10 day supply. I can't afford a wheatgrass juicer or I would definitely be growing my own wheatgrass. I was thinking of growing wheatg

I've mentioned here before how I started eating raw in an effort to help my daughter overcome some health problems. She had a slight hormonal imbalance and her doctor prescribed oral contraceptives to help regulate her monthly cycle. The synthetic hormones made matters worse, especially when the prescription ran out and her body experienced a sudden shift in hormone levels from quitting the pi

Yes, WendySmiling, you can JUST eat. That's what I do. I get hungry, I reach for raw fruits, veggies, a little bit of nuts or seeds. Occasionally I even eat legumes and brown rice. That is my plan or "unplan." This is what works for me right now. I've lost the excess weight and I've overcome my lifelong anxiety disorder. I'll adjust my diet as I see fit, but for now, this is

The best facial cleanser is a grain scrub just like coco described. I make mine with equal parts of oatmeal, wheat germ, and cornmeal. I also add some ground dried peppermint leaves. I haven't used soap on my face in two years, just my scrub.

I don't have a food neurosis but it does bother me when I can't find good organic produce and I have to settle for commercially raised produce. My daughter has a hormone imbalance and so we're trying to eliminate toxins as much as possible. The body processes pesticides as xenoestrogens which can create a hormone imbalance so it's important that I try and keep away from pesticides. It

Here is the link to Righini's blog: By his own admission, he had pre-existing eating disorders before raw and considers raw a part of his recovery program. That never came out in the 20/20 segment. I just emailed the link to my mother. She believes everything that the media says because she's just very gullible that way. Yeah, the processed food industry and pharmaceutical compan

Thanks for the links Bryan. That's exactly what she watched on 20/20. I don't resemble those people with orthorexia at all. Not in my appearance and not in my thinking. I'm not depriving myself of calories, proteins, nutrients, etc. I'm striving to improve my health, and that of my daughter's, by making better food choices. I make everything I eat count. I just choose not to eat empty

Don't look at your weight just yet. It's too soon. Think in terms of improving your nutrition and lessening your toxic load. The weight loss will come in time, especially if you are exercising while doing so.

My elderly mother, saw something on TV yesterday about raw foodists with orthorexia. Even though I reassured her that this is not what is happening to me, she's now worried and won't drop the subject. She's especially worried for my 18 year old daughter who switched to raw with me. Nothing I say is going to make a difference because once my mother gets an idea in her head, she totally runs wit

That is such good news! Good for you, taking control of your own health. It's strange how people are turned off by the concept of eating naturally and healthfully. Almost like it's just too simple for them to grasp the idea. Some people can't have faith in what is simple and are just attracted to all that is complicated.

Unbalanced hormones is what brought me to raw. My daughter's hormones were all over the place. Her doctor put her on oral contraceptives to balance out her hormones. That just made things worse. When her prescription ran out, her hormones became more out of whack than before. So synthetic hormones were not a cure. Instead, we discovered that other women who also quit Yasmin ended up wit

Flax seeds are great for an effortless BM. The high fiber of flax seed cleans the intestines and improves the ease & volume of bowel elimination. You can ground some flax seeds using a coffee grinder and add that to your baby's diet. I add freshly grounded flax seeds to my green smoothies.

That makes sense. Drugs are toxic and fruits are very cleansing. I can see how fruits and fruit juices would detoxify the body and decrease the effects of drugs.

I haven't grown anything yet, BUT, I'm proud of my organic compost. It' starting to look like humus. You wouldn't believe how many grubs are in my compost pile breaking down everything. Once my compost is ready, I'm going to use it for wheatgrass and some herbs.

Assuming you are in the U.S., most counties have a hospital or clinic that charge a "sliding scale." In other words, you are charged based on your monthly income. A county clinic or public health clinic is a good place to start. You should be able to find them listed in your local phone book.

Awwww. F1 is a regular contributor to this forum. I've personally learned a lot about fitness from watching his videos. So, please, let's not be hating on him. Thanks F1, for that tip about pull ups for my triceps. I definitely was neglecting my pulling exercises. I got a pull up bar for my door way (only $24.99), and I'm already up to doing 7.

I've had my share of bad smoothies too, BUT, just like Patty, I drank them anyway. I can't afford to waste good produce just because it doesn't taste good so I drink them anyways too! Thankfully, I haven't made a bad one in a while.

Welcome and congrats! I don't drink as much water since going raw. I feel well hydrated from all the fruits and veggies I eat and from the ones I juice. I only drink about 40 ounces of water per day. You should try spinach in your smoothies. They are my favorite tasting greens for making smoothies. Even my SAD eating husband loves smoothies with spinach. Collard greens are great too.

Maybe you are not getting enough calories? I feel cold when I'm juice fasting or not getting enough calories. Maybe you can take in more calories and use exercise to burn excess calories for weight loss instead of restricting your caloric intake too much. Your body may be telling you to transition more slowly. Also, I don't know how much weight you've already lost, but periods of weight s

I can't get enough cilantro. I've always loved cilantro but lately I'm eating it in crazy amounts. I've been putting it in my salads, guacamole, juices, and smoothies. As I'm picking off the leaves for salads, I find myself munching on the stems. I made myself a V8 type juice with homegrown tomatoes and lots of cilantro. Well this is my big contribution to the community for the month o

Does anyone know how much chlorophyll wheatgrass has in it versus other greens? I tried to google it but I couldn't find what I was looking for. Also, does chlorophyll help repair DNA? I'm so confused about the health benefits for chlorophyll. I was very tempted to buy some frozen wheatgrass for my daughter. We're trying to increase her greens. Eventually, I will grow my own wheatgrass
