dvdai, it is good that you are obeying your instincts in this matter. Who knows, maybe your tastes will change again and you will be able to eat those foods again. Re sprouted lentils - really, is there a nicer food? I love them, too.

These roles and customs that you refer to, Jana - if they don't serve us as a species - will have to dissolve in a natural way, though; not through violent government tyranny & cultural marxist forces imposing too-fast changes on entire populations. All of which produces endless misery. Truly beneficial and fundamental change must be bottom-up. At least in western societies, I don't see

You mean hunny, yah? My dad was a beekeeper for decades and so we learned to not be scared of bees. I have to laugh when I see people panicking and running and flailing and screaming when a poor bee comes near them. Geeeeeeze...

I've grown watermelons in the past even though I am in gardening Zone 3. They were ripe when the one little tendril beside the stem was brown & dry.

It seems to be fairly common for people to have unpleasant reactions in the digestive system from raw bean sprouts, yet raw seed or nut sprouts are more easily digested. I always blanch my bean sprouts before eating. They taste that way better, also. All in all, I prefer raw sun seeds, almonds, etc.

To be honest, I can't imagine what raw sprouts in cooked oatmeal must taste like! What kind of sprouts do you put into your porridge? It is a good balance, isn't it. The cooked and the fresh together.

While I would never encourage anyone to kill him- or herself, I really object to people who do commit suicide being described as "weak". It is not inherently weak to want to end severe pain that is not alleviable. There ARE people who are caught between a rock and a hard place and, with a clear mind, kill themselves. It can be an injustice to their memory to say that they were weakli

Well, it's okay to be changed by childbirth and child rearing, I always say. I sure don't want to be a pie-faced girl forever. It's a good form of aging. Mind you, as you parents here know, it can be a "bit" of a challenge having children!

On one of my flushes (no mag sulfate was used) I passed hard entities - small and round. Some were all clustered together and looked like a raspberry. They did not disintegrate or turn to oil. Could someone here on the antiflush end of things opine as to what they might be? From my reading, I would say they are "calcified cholesterol stones". If a cholesterol crystal (which forms a

Norman Walker (grandfather of juicing for health movement) says in his book that plants high in oxalic acid, such as spinach or beet greens, are good for you if taken raw. He says that only cooked oxalic acid has a negative effect. It is the root of the beet which taken in anything more than small quantities will cause a reaction. It should always be taken diluted in any case. I have heard

Thank you so much for your response and discussion. I have read Andreas Moritz' book on liver/gallbladder flushing and would say that it's all good for information in so many ways - but the flush itself, his version, is WAY too complicated and lengthy. Also, all that epsom salt is no good for you. See: www.sensiblehealth.com I agree with all who point out that you have to do a series of

Got news for you, KidRaw - the US economy will soon (yes, I've got a crystal ball) collapse. There'll be money for one thing, and one thing alone - armed forces to keep rioters down. So don't you worry none, Sugar, 'bout your mandatory procedures. (And Canada will likely fall soon after.) Coco, I am sorry that they were investigating you during your pregnancy & plans for homebirth. Tha

In practical terms, what would it mean if the USA signs up as a full participant in the treaty? It doesn't really specify in the article. I am embarrassed to admit that way back around 1994 I actually signed a petition in support of Canada being party to this treaty. I did not understand at that time that there were internationalist forces at work undermining national governments. On the s

All righty then. It has been 20 days since anyone posted here on their gardening and/or eating. How about an update? I am looking forward to when my Jaspee de Vendee melonette-type winter squash will be ready. This is a hard winter squash that you do not have to cook, it's that sweet.

Thanks for that link, cyclo. I've never read that much on the internet about kosherization, but it has been hard not to see that just about everything canned, processed & packaged in regular (not jewish) grocery stores is kosher and I could never see the point, inasmuch as Jews are such a small percentage of the population. To me, the whole thing smells.

To learn the basics of seed saving there is nothing easier to understand or better than the booklet written by the founder of Johnny's Selected Seeds, Rob Johnston Jr. In any case I really agree with you that this is a large subject but unless one is going into commercial seed growing, I wouldn't lose sleep over the inability to understand it all.

Juicerkatz, I am just curious - do you have a proper little greenhouse or what. I mean for your herbs. I presume that all frost danger is past by now? Did you start your tomatoes from seed? Do you grow old varieties? I have just finished putting my 9 tomato plants in the garden today. Sunny, but there will be MORE rain. Geeze. Nubster, what Zone are you in? Did you start your cuk

Garbanzo sprouts go bad rather easily. So what I do is allow them to slightly ferment, then grind them up, add lemon juice & a bit o' salt, and bob's yer uncle. A fake cottage cheese.

That unpressed olive oil is overpriced because the processor got suckered into kosher certification. Kosherization of food products is one of the biggest scams going. Look it up. Why the hell should I care if my food is kosher if I am not a practitioner of that religion? The vast majority of people don't give a hoot if their food is kosher or not, yet it is getting to the point that it's almo

To try to act like Christ is to suffer. The trouble with Christianity is that Christians forget that Christ suffered in our place. All of which means we should look after our own interests best we can without hurting anyone else. Easy to say, hard to do in this world! Thanks for your input, Tamukha. I started to go grey about age 47. It took some years to be noticeable, though. At that
