Well, I had an amazingly satisfying day. I walked 5 miles and then had a green smoothie for breakfast. For lunch I made an avocado dip that I ate with veggies. It was so delicious and filling. For a snack I had some raw carrot cake that I made the other day. I was so full I didn't even eat dinner. It was nice not worrying about the % of fat...just eating what I wanted and feeling suprisingly sati

Jodi...thank you, thank you, thank you for all the recipes. WOW! You're the greatest! Smile...great suggestions and pretty much what I have decided. I think I can really handle the eating out thing as long as I have a good dressing that I really like. Planning is the key for me. I'm really disciplined in other areas of my life so I know I can do this too...but I need a routine and a rhythm. Tha

Hi Betty...maybe my post was a little misleading. Of the 7 kids, only the youngest is still at home (ages 31,29,26,24,23,21,16). I have a master's in Educ and I'm finishing up a master's in Religion. I hope to get into an interdisciplinary PhD program next fall (a blend of educ, sociology and religion) called International Family and Community Studies. I want to teach at the univ level and hope

Do you know anything about oil pulling? If not, you can google it. It's supposed to be really good for bad teeth and gums. My husband has been doing it for about one month for varicose veins and they are GONE! I couldn't believe it. He uses organic sesame oil (make sure it isn't roasted). It would be worth a try.

Hi Tiffany, I've been on this board for about a month and just now ventured into the journal section. We have a lot in common regarding where we are and where we are going. I started with the MC on June 1 and then went raw afterwards. Talk about unprepared. I had never even heard of the raw food diet. I just stumbled onto it while researching the MC which a girlfriend had told me about. I am 5

Karrend...I didn't know that about 6 weeks for new blood cells. Really good info. BTW...where do you get raw olives. I love olives, but don't know where to get them raw. I live in Southern CA. My hubby was just diagnosed with high BS. He is still a SAD eater and not ready to go raw or give up certain things. But I have started to incorporate more fruits, nuts, & veggies into his diet and h

Thanks Inaia...yeah, I think the weight gain must be water retention. I used to drink tons of water but when I started eating more fruits, I found I wasn't needing as much water and kinda got out of the habit. So perhaps, I didn't get enough water in. The only exercise I get at this point is walking, but I walk 6 days a week, usually 5 miles a day. That's the one great thing about living here is

Inaia...thanks for the tip on the radio shows. I will definately check them out! As for everyone else...thanks for the welcome and encouragement. I feel like I'm really putting myself out there to be journaling, but I'm going to be honest and hopefully learn through the journey...and it's sure nice to know that others have been where I am and have moved forward.

I'm looking for some suggestions. Here is my situation. I have been transitioning to raw for 2 months. THe most success I've had is 6 days, 100% raw. My slip ups occur either in the evenings at home or from eating out in the evenings or on the weekends. My family still eats SAD. They are very supportive, but we eat out a lot. I love fruits, but have difficulty with veggies. I can tolerate a salad

Two months ago I said to myself, "I'm going raw" First it was 50%...80%...100%...oops= I ATE SOMETHING COOKED. So I started over. Then I was eating too much raw...then too much fat...then I tried 80/10/10...oops= I ATE SOMETHING COOKED. Starting over again. This has been my up and down journey for the last two months...losing weight...gaining weight....it all makes me dizzy. I t

Yeah...I'm thinking the 811 is too hard for me too, but I still have 40 lbs to lose, so I'm trying to find a balance as well as a rhythm. PerBetty suggested that my only goal at this point should be staying raw and letting the rest go. I think that is good advice. I need to try something and stick to it to really see what the results are going to be. If I'm vascillating, its hard to judge the res

There is a thread on here about rose hips. I don't really know much about them or about rose water, but I would think you could use the rose hips to make the rose water. Let us know how they turn out.

flex4life...why do you take the MSM? I was taking it for a while (about 1 month) due to joint pain, but stopped because I really don't like taking supplements. I'd like to hear your experience with it and what brand you use. Thanks

Thanks everyone for your input. Knowing that it WILL happen it somewhat reassuring. Betty.... Wwat you are saying is making a lot of sense ( as usual...you always have the greatest input!) and really goes along with what I was thinking today. I love fruits and that is mostly what I've been eating...but by the end of the day I'm wanting something MORE. So I need to find some raw recipes I real

Dewey...are you still shooting for 80/10/10 or have you relaxed that a bit? I haven't been posting there because I'm finding it very hard to stick to. Just wondering what you're doing and what kind of results your getting.

I think more than anything I just need some new recipes. I've got a couple of raw food cook books, but I've been lazy and just eating fruit most of the time because its easy. THen I get bored with fruit and want something cooked....going out ot eat is easy. Maybe its the summer heat, but I just need to do more experimenting and find some raw recipes I like. Thanks for letting me vent!

I like the idea of dipping the dates in carob and having a nut inside. Why didn't I ever think of that? One of the problems I have with sticking to 100% raw is boredom. It's my own fault because I don't really like a lot of foods so I tend to eat what I like over and over and over and then I get sick of it and want something cooked. I really need to experiment with more recipes, but I've been a b

Hi Kristen... I haven't posted in a while because I thought there was a loss of interest AND because I haven't done very well with the 80/10/10 thing. The pendulum seems to swing back and forth. If I keep my fat low, I seem to "cheat" more. If I allow myself a little more fat...like 15-20%, I can stay 100% raw longer. Since July 5, the longest I've been 100% raw is 6 days. So I'm vasci

Inaia...I've read through your posts here and am inspired by them. I've enjoyed your music for years and its neat to get to know a bit of the person. I live just a little south of LA in Orange County and don't know any raw foodists personally, so this board is very helpful to me. I also tend to eat one cooked meal a week...usually on the weekend. I was wondering if you find that it affects your w

You are too young and beautiful to let your life waste away. You are here on this planet for a reason. Don't give up. Do whatever you have to do to live! You're worth it...and every life that you will impact in the future will be blessed by your existance. Thanks Betty for the encouragement. Prior to going raw, I had been on Weight Watchers for 6 months and lost 40lbs. When I first went raw, I ate whatever I wanted and gained 4 lbs. that took me 2 weeks to get off. That freaked me out because I was losing about 2 lbs a week and a 4 lb gain was a big deal. I started on the 80/10/10 (or have attempted to...I have some really good 811 days, but its re

Dewey...thanks for sharing. I'm in grad school and currently working on a thesis so I can't really get into any more outside reading right now. Last week, for instance, I felt really good and stayed 100% raw for 6 days straight (Mon. - Sat). Then on Sun. in addition to my "fruits"... I had a veggie burrito, a cheese quesadilla and some popcorn. I didn't feel bad, but I gained 1.6 l

I am so amazed by all the posts I have read about people losing tons of weight. This just hasn't happened for me. I have been raw for 2 months now and I have to watch every bite I put into my mouth. If I stay 100% raw and try to adhere to 80/10/10, I am losing on average about 2 lbs a week....and that includes walking over 30 miles a week. Do you think this is about right or slow weight loss?? I'
