Betty, I started on raw June 1 for I'm at about 6 weeks, and probably about 80%, some days 100%, but overall, honestly closer to 80%. I have to be so careful with what I eat. I am hoping that my body will adjust over time. I would love to not have to be so obsessed with watching every bite that goes into my mouth. I would certainly appreciate any tips from any long-timers as well. Thanks.

Welcome Brigette, There is a lot of info on this board. Read through the posts and then if you have any specific questions, just ask. The people here are very nice and helpful. When I started, I checked out books from my library and read as much via the internet that I could find. Take it one day at a time. You've made a great decision.

Melygerl...I am "trying" to use the 80/10/10 guideline for dieting and keep my fat intake to 10% of my total daily intake. This is HARD. Some days I do very well, but other days, it is more like 20%. That would allow me to only eat about 1/4 of an avocado, which isn't much. If during the week I have done really well, keeping my fat low, I'll have a whole avocado and then my weekly perce

Yeap...Suncloud is right. I re-input the info into fitday. The watermelon itself is 5% fat and it comprised 12% of my daily fat intake. My mistake. Sorry for the confusion.

Suncloud...I got the 12% fat from fitday.com. I just put in the amount of watermelon I had eaten for the day (and that was all I had) and it said 12%. Maybe that was 12% of my daily intake...not 12% fat in the watermelon. Who knows...it was early...and I am blonde!

When they are soft...like a peach or nectarine, they are ripe. You can just bite into them or you can peel them.

I agree with Prism...check your intake weekly and monthly. I also agree with Mocha...blending and juicing helps you to consume a lot more than you would naturally "eat". You've probably heard me say before I don't particularly like greens. But, for example, I freeze baby spinach and put it in my morning smoothie (can't taste it) along with 2 bananas and some berries (blue or straw). It

Hi Peisi... I was just wondering about you the other day. Glad you checked in and glad things are going well for you in Canada. Mocha...hope your blood work goes well today! I have had a rocky week of wanting to eat everything in sight, but weakly attempting some restraint. I looked at my average for the week and my caloric intake was on average about 1500 calories which accounts for why I

Just a note of caution...everyone's body reacts differently to raw, so time will certainly tell, but...when I first went raw, I was eating everything my body "craved" and I put on 4 lbs (after having lost 40lbs on Weight Watchers, that was kinda scary). So, eve though I LOVE avocadoes, I have to really limit them or I will gain weight. After I lose all of the pounds I want to lose, I lo

Thanks for the article Mocha. I printed out the food combining chart and have it on my refrigerator until I can memorize it. I personally have had no problems with avocadoes, but have always had them with my salad. I just have to limit them because I am trying to lose weight. Nuts I have always eaten alone...as a snack...but again, I have to limit them because of the weight issue.

I don't think so...I only get it with mangos and pineapples. If I don't eat them, I don't have it...but thanks! I was just wondering if there was something one could do to balance things out so the fuzz didn't occur.

In the 80/10/10 book by Dr. Graham, he says that your percentage over the week is what really counts, more so than the every day average. So...if you're keeping to 80/10/10 all week and spurlge one meal at a raw food restaurant, you should still be okay.

mesquite powder is supposedly very high in 5HTP which increases the uptake of serotonin I take 5htp supplements for depression which comes from a griffonia bean. Previously I was on Zoloft (lots of side effects) and no side effects with the 5htp. I would love to not have to take any supplements at all, but it is necessary for me to be functional so for now, it is what works, along with my high

The fruit that I bought was definately not over-ripe or spoiled. In fact, I'm still waiting on it to soften enough to eat. I resorted to putting some apple cider vinegar in a spray bottle and just spraying them. That has taken care of most of the problem for now and my kitchen smells like a salad bar!

I agree with Patty...and I would avoid using words like "raw" or "vegan". For many, those words are red flags of "weirdness" to them because they lack understanding. For me, personally, I say as little as possible, explanatory wise, and just say I'm preferring to eat a lot of fruits and vegetables. In the summer, I think it is easier to get away with this "style

I went raw for many of the same reasons you stated. I've found that taking 1 TB of apple cider vinegar, 3x a day (diluted in water) helps with the aches and pains. And...pineapple is a natural pain reliever. I have had terrible allergies since I was a child. Since going raw, my allergies have all but gone away. The only time I notice any congestion at all is when I slip up and eat something cooke

I've been doing 80/10/10 for 2 weeks now and raw for 6 weeks. The first week on 80/10/10 I lost 5 pounds, this week...NADA, although honestly, my percentages of fat were up a bit this week and I have had some non-raw foods for supper more than a few times this week such as steamed veggies and last night sushi! I am feeling really good, but I think more than aything else, it really affects my weig

Mocha...if you're not opposed to eating nuts & avocados, that may help between now and the time of the bloodwork. Sorry you're having to go through this. Do you monitor your nutritional intakes as well as your percentages on fitday? Just curious...if you do (in the reports section) and everything is okay, you should be okay. You're in my thoughts! Have a blessed day!

I haven't had any adverse reactions to eating only fruit. Since I don't like veggies much, I prefer to eat mostly fruits...and so far, no stomach or gum problems.

I've read that you should eat melons alone. Does that mean NO OTHER FOODS at all? And how long do you have to wait after eating melons to eat other foods? Thanks.

Homemade applesauce has a lot of pith which is good for diarrhea. Maybe try some apples in the food processor. Some oatmeal might help also. In any regard, make sure drink a lot because it is very easy to get dehydrated with diarrhea. Hope you're feeling better soon.
