Try beet juice- good source of easy to assimilate iron and known to be a blood builder.

Actually that reminds me- I am unable to do colonics due to a past surgery in 2004- had a small bowel ressection - no longer have an iliocecal valve, so back up is a concern and therefore, colonics are not recommended.

Things haven't been moving through as much as I'd like them to. Yesterday almost nothing passed, and typically I'll have one movement a day and again, very small, very loose. I realize this could be due to my partial obstruction in my small instestine, I'm just concerned I'm going to have a build up of toxins that will either sit or be reabsorbed. Wondering if a saltwater flush would be beneficia

Not sure of anyone in the area that does supervised fasting. I have mainly been on the couch today and I drank some grape and green juice which made me feel much better. I am able to be up and moving around, climbing stairs w/o feeling dizzy or faint. Not sure how I feel about eating yet EZ rider, I do not want to irritate the obstruction. I need much more healing before I can start with soft f

Abdominal pain is minimal today- even when pressure is applied- so good sign. I water fasted all day yesterday with no symptoms other than a headache and fatigue, this morning woke up incredibly weak and faint. I know thats a sign of detox, especially after getting out of the hospital and being on antibiotics, but I was really, really faint- barely able to stand without holding on to anything for

I was released from the hospital this afternoon, I'm back home and slowly sipping green juice and reading Green for Life. My gut is feeling ok although still tender and tight with some gas pressure. Things still aren't moving through much, but I know that is something that may take a little more time. Until then, I will continue with the juice, I may try water fasting tomorrow but I haven't reall

Thank you jgunn, didn't realize there was a correct way- i will definitely give this a try. I drank an ounce of aloe juice and am currently (and slowly) working on the green juice.

Thank you all for your support and suggestions. As far as introducing fruit and then follow with water or juice for a few days, I don't think that would be a good idea. I don't think any fiber at all would be a good idea right now, I think my bowel needs complete rest and no fiber. I will be drinking one juice tonight to see how my body handles it. My mom will be stopping at a juice bar and br

WY- Do you feel a water fast would be better than a juice fast? Tamu- just curious to why you advise to lay off the banana. Does it not pass as easily? Lower water content? Which fruits would you suggest? Newhoove- sounds all familiar to what they are telling me. At first it wasn't too serious until I started refusing medication, and all the sudden it's perforations and possible emergency surge

Are you recommending the prednisone or surgery? I really would prefer to avoid both at all costs, I don't think it's necessary. Obviously if it came down to it I would take it (which is why I'm considering the entocort even though I know it hasn't done much for me in the past) but there have been people on their death beds that have "nursed" themselves back to health with juicing. I'm

I should mention that I have been high-100% raw for the past 5 months, but only recently have been trying to follow a plan closer to the 80/10/10 diet, trying to simplify. There is scar tissue/narrowing/inflammation in the place I had my last surgery in 04- that is where the problem is occurring. The section immediately before it is beginning to stretch to about twice it's normal size as the

I have no idea how I got here, for the past several days my diet has consisted of blended papaya, banana, mango and spinach. Somehow I have a partial obstruction and the doctors here are first of all trying to inject me with steroids (I've refused, but they are still giving me antibiotics through IV) and they are talking about possible surgery if this gets any worse. I'm feeling much better today

HK, I'm in the same boat as you. As a suffering crohns patient, here is what I've learned so far. My crohns has been flaring going on one year this month. I went high raw back in April, starting with a very complicated transitioning diet high in fat, and I've been simplifying ever since. Avocados make my gut churn and are very difficult for my intestines to digest. Too many nuts and seeds give m

Tamukha- what is your stance on using tanning beds? Aren't they much more harmful (and much less beneficial) than the actual sun? Are the benefits even close? Recent studies have shown them to be as dangerous as cigarettes, but at the same time the media puts out a bad rep for actual sunshine, so it's hard for me to judge.

Thanks for the tips I do exercise but not as much as I should. One-hour yoga sessions 2-3 times a week, and I try to go to the gym and do 45 minutes of cardio at least once a week although I would like to increase that. My water drinking varies, possibly due to the amounts in my fruits/smoothies. Some days I feel like drinking organic herbal tea all day long, some days I don't have any wat

I feel like I'm eating all day long but i still never get much past 1,000 calories unless I eat a very-high fat meal which I'm trying to stay away from. For the past couple of days I'm been trying to juice/monomeal breakfast and midmorning- then a simple green smoothie (1-2 types of fruit with greens) for lunch. For dinner for the past couple of nights I've had a large bag of romaine hearts w

Excellent, thank you all for such great info. I think it very well could be the fact that I'm not getting enough calories. I just feel like I'm eating (or drinking) all day long, and I'm not letting my body fully "rest" between meals. I will try to use higher calorie fruits in my smoothies and see if that does anything for me. Also, the "numbing" feeling could be another thing

Oh I agree that that is the best way to eat raw, I'm just trying to figure out the science behind the nut/seed overeating that many of us do. Maybe if I understand what exactly it was that was making me reach for them, I would be able to find another food/replacement that could give me the same effect... hopefully that makes sense.

Although I am gaining more control of myself and having less of a problem, I still do this from time to time. I notice it's actually pretty common for some of us newbies to the diet. Just wondering what it is about them that draws us to them and causes us to occasionally lose control over our proportions? Is it the high-fat? High protein? I have also done this with black beans, chick peas, olives

I have a bunch of concord grapes in my fridge, they can be time consuming to eat with the seeds. Wondering if I could throw them into the vitamix?

Quick question- Had a slightly stressful and very emotionally-draining weekend, after a small binge on sprouted pumpkin and sunflower seeds (okay, so maybe I ate a full cup or more, I stopped paying attention after a while) I of course woke up feeling awful. Puffy eyes from crying, puffy face from diet cheats, and felt like I got hit by a truck. Spent my Monday on my couch, sleeping and sleepi

I also find that any salt added back into my diet (cooked vegetable dishes or seaweed salads with added salt/tamari) cause bloating and gas, discomfort, and water retention- mainly in my lower legs and ankles. I also notice that oil-based dressings aren't best for my digestion. I tried to get away with eating these by taking digetive enzymes with my meals, but it still doesn't really help- I'm le

I just used some raw hemp butter and tahini and threw it in my food processor with dill, chives, spinach, lemon juice, balsmic vinegar, water and a pinch of salt to make some dill dressing/dip. It was excellent.

Hm, well I don't know why that would be. I eat high-raw, lots of fruit, and my only "cheats" are still vegan, cooked vegetables, edamame, a few spoonfuls of black beans or hummus, something of that sort- and not every day.

Since beginning raw, I've woken up almost every morning with a slightly runny nose- typically I blow my nose once and it's better. For the past 3-4 weeks I've been juicing a grapefruit and orange for breakfast, followed by a lot of water or herbal tea until early afternoon. I have noticed that my runny nose seemed to start up immediately after drinking the juice. For the past 4 days, it's alm

It was at 75 before, it has decreased to 58. Is this too low? Any ideas on the reasoning? This was drawn late afternoon, I was not fasting. Also, the last time I had it drawn was in January- three months before going raw and still having major issues with crohn's.

The dips and salsa's sound delicious! I think I'm also going to try nori rolls with nut pate and spiralized zucchini pasta with marinara, maybe kelp noodles mixed in depending on how I feel about those (never had them myself). I love being able to share food with others- especially when you tell them your diet consists primarily of fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds and they immediately assume yo
