Zimbabwe! (This is where we work, we are actually Dutch) Funny enough, everyone else out here is struggling because of food shortages, but we personally never had a problem finding food because fruits and vegetables which are our staples are readily available. Not much variety, but still....

volcomchick8797, strange as it sounds, only a plant food diet is going to give you sufficient calcium. Animal proteins are some of the culprits which lead to a negative calcium balance in the body, meaning that you EXCRETE more than you ingest, leading to weakening of the bones etc etc. Other factors can also lead to calcium loss in the urine, like salt (!), coffee, alcohol, dairy (!), and some m

Sunshine, your story is so scaring. Great you found out for yourselves what your body needed. It just shows once more that "raw" is not per definition healthy, it all depends on WHAT (and how) we are actually eating. Others like you are still struggling, not understanding what is going on, as we can not rely on medical doctors who don't have the knowledge we need on our raw path. Thanks

We use a lot of wild greens, easily available, packed with nutrition, and they grow for free! Dandelion leaves, Quickweed and Black Jack (extremely good sources of calcium), Purslane, Borage, Comfrey, etc.

I love this kind of threads, and I enjoyed your posts Sunshine 79 and Pistachio! Personally I feel that "raw" is not per definition healthy. It all matters "how" one is applying it, like David said it is the hand which holds the hammer which will determine if it is hit on the nail. I believe a lot depends on variety, and on sufficient greens. Greens are just so good in

Is tahini not made from shelled sesame seeds? Then you would miss out on the calcium which is lost with the shells.

You can do without any overt fat for a while while the body is cleansing, but I believe you do need some for the long term. It is better to limit your fat intake to only 10 % calorie wise. You don't need more. The body can make its own fats, except for the essential fatty acids in the right balance. By adding overt fats you easily tip the balance towards the omega-6 fatty acids, which is not heal

If you won't do all raw at this time, check out He does allow cooked foods, but no animal products. He is the scientific man. Then work your way towards all raw! You can transition into raw foods more slowly. Don't forget us! Greenpower

For a while you can expect cycles of low and high energy, till your body has done the cleansing job..... It seems the body has a way of dumping its toxins. What it has build up over years won't be all out at once. Greenpower

I got some nice info about raw sweeteners on www.welikeitraw.com by Daniel Vitalis: an interview with the alchemist: He says to look out for agave on the market which have artificial sweeteners added, make sure you get a reliable brand. There seems to be a limited supply of real agave compared to the demand on the market. The other thing I learned is something about glucose and fructose.

I find that any overt fats easily disturb the omega-3/omega-6 balance, don't know yet how to solve this one. On a raw vegan diet without overt fats you get a perfect ratio of omega-3 to omega-6. As soon as I add any overt fats the balance weighs heavily towards the omega-6 fatty acids. We have been using fish-oil capsules with EPA/DHA and vegan DHA to compensate and get a more favorable ratio. I

I bet you won't have any problems with candida if you go the high fruit/low fat route. Many people have experienced that not the fruit sugars are the real problems but that the fats are the real culprits. On a high fat diet the fats will hinder the uptake of sugars by the cells, resulting in higher than desired blood glucose levels. And this is what is feeding the candida. If your intake of fats

Why not change your diuretic? That would be easier! You can easily get an unbalanced ratio of sodium over potassium on the raw diet and this is only made worse by the aldacton. Try to get a lot of sodium containing foods like celery, kale, chard, spinach, dandelion leaves, carrots, beets, etc to get a better balance. Cramping can also be a sign of not getting enough calcium. In that case it wou

annex do you have gallstones? Impacted stones can give pain in the stomach, on the right side, between the shoulder blades and shoulder pain. I don't know how the apples can come in here though.

I don't think it is detox after 2 years, it is more likely that you are doing something wrong somewhere. Are you paying attention to food combinations? There can be a problem there. Like having acid fruits after other foods? Too many fats? Fruits after starches? Starches and proteins? Too much acidic fruits? Unripe acid forming fruits? Eating late at night? Not getting enough fluids? Have you no

I have actually learned that one should never have their cholesterol tested while in the cleansing phase. Cholesterol which was before stuck to the walls of your bloodvessels is now being released into the bloodstream for elimination by the liver. NO need to worry at all if you know that you are on the right track. You will be surprised about your levels after a while and your doctor is going to

At school I tell the teachers that my daughter is allergic to wheat and sugar, that elmininates about all junk, and that is the language they understand! Speak their language, it helps a lot! The previous teacher actually bought fruits for her, like apples or grapes, when other kids got some other treats! Super isn't it.

Thanks David, I am going to give it a try and see what is going to happen. I have been taking raw organic apple cider about every day for a long time, which they say is good to correct overalkalinity, but there are no measurable results. I used to believe that nuts and seeds would bring the numbers down, but they don't, and now I have embarked on a low fat trial there will be no acidic foods left

I had and have the same problem with our now 4 year old daughter. There was no way she would ever accept an 100% raw diet. She always wanted potatoes for example. I made it a point that she NEVER got any junk, no sugar, no refined foods, no sweets and biscuits, no commercial drinks etc. Fortunately she reacted to bread, so that was a good reason for us and her to not give her any bread. So basica

Quite a number of people say that one can subsist on fruits and vegetables only long term. But is the body not going to become overly alkaline eventually, without any acid foods to compensate? My own urine, even in the morning is repeatedly 9 or over 9. Whether I eat nuts and fats or not. Is the body going to regulate on its own eventually? If i get over this hurdle in my mind, then there is noth

I have another question on a new thread, hopefully my last question, would you mind to comment on that new one? We developed an intolerance to all the fiber of an 100 % raw food diet. That was only after years, obviously we had been overdoing on the greens. I think it would be wise to cut down on fiber, and then increase the amount gradually, so your system gets time to adjust to this new way of eating. We also get a lot of gas after dried apricots. Soaking dried fruits and nuts and seeds could be a go

To us, even Celtic salt and Himalayan salt are out. Both me and my husband have problems with even the tiniest bit of these salts. I used to dilute 2 teaspoons in a bottle of distilled water, so we could dose the salty solution per 'drop'. I literally used drops only, but even that proved too much. My husband gets a sort of lumps on his hands, and I get irritable the next day, with muscles aching

Are many of you eating raw sprouts every day? How much raw sprouts are you able to eat and how often? I am trying to figure how much raw sprouts can be safely eaten on a daily base, especially thinking about green peas, lentils, chickpeas and alfalfa sprouts. How much is safe? I can't find figures anywhere. Thanks!

Thanks Prism for your suggestions. This my 10th day of NO FAT for the purpose of detox. I plan to introduce fats again whenever I am going to see some results. Then hopefully there will be some avo's and coconuts around. I tried a mild energy soup in the evening with very few sprouts, in teaspoons (lentil, alfalfa, fenugreek, radish), which is not too bad. Dark circles, yes, can't get rid of them
