Buy a candy thermometer from the local craft store. Heat up raw soups on the stove on medium heat (depends on your stove) stirring constantly with one hand and using the other to hold the candy thermometer in the middle of the soup (don't touch the bottom of the pan, it might read hotter than the food is actually getting). Don't heat up above 118 degrees F (or less depending on what you believe

iLIVE, No problem, we're all entitled to our opinions. Yes, I was speaking from personal experience, but made it clear on several points that my experiences could indeed be due to several factors. I guess I also felt I was getting a scientific critique from you, when I wasn't presenting my conclusions as though they were absolute provable facts. Yet, I still think it is valuable for raw food

iLIVE, you said: "As for blaming it on certain foods, that just doesn't fly with me when I hear people say it, unless they have some sort of hard fact believable evidence. It's just not that simple, and not that easy to say for anyone, unless you are a scientist and understand how to hypothesis or create a "control" at least. Not to mention the fact pregnancy I've heard could be

One thing I am wondering...some raw foodists are talking about fat clogging the arteries, but isn't that statement based on standard medical advice, which makes no distinction from plant and animal fats, not to mention cooked or raw fats? The China Study, if I recall correctly, put that issue to rest and showed how animal fats are the culprits in clogged arteries, not plant fats. Also raw fats

My husband has been trying to go all raw with me. One week he felt great, the next he felt awful. He discovered the major difference was in the amount of calories he was eating. Make sure you get enough of those.

I used to think a lot of the restrictions recommended for raw foodists were unnecessary; for instance, “proper food combining,” or “watch your fat intake”...that is until I became pregnant. I had been raw before that, on and off, and when I was "on" I ate whatever raw foods I wanted and felt fine. Green smoothies tasted great, I ate avocados all the time, I lost weight, and fe

Disgusting. Even worse are how the customers lined up again outside of police tape to wait for the store to be reopened. The free market isn't to blame...it's our culture's lack of morals. You can be a greedy socialist or a non-greedy capitalist... it's whether you handle your system's freedoms and priveledges (or lack thereof) in a selfish or selfless way that determines your behavior.

Hey everyone, I have a theory that the reason meat eaters and raw vegans alike have B12 deficiency is that few (perhaps) drink well water anymore...it's either tap or super distilled, triple purified, completely filtered water...I'm exaggerating a little, but you get my point. I'm not sure that my theory is grounded in science, but aren't B12 a type of bacteria found in soil, and so well wate

I have been fully raw for one week now (done it on and off the past year). The cravings are hitting me terribly bad now. I can't stand dehydrated flax seed bread...the flax seeds feel slimy and gross when I chew them. And onion is too potent when dehydrated. Most substitute recipes I've seen for veggie burgers and bread contin these ingredients. I'm pregnant and MUST finish out my last mont

Is it necessary that I use a dry blade for dry ingredients, or is using the wet blade fine?

Hi, I am having a hard time figuring out if the Vita-Prep 3 has a dry blade option or not. I can only seem to find a reference to one blade and they call it a wet blade. So, is this blade made for dry blending too? Thanks!

Thank you, Patty, for your thorough answer. I knew I had heard something like you said, but couldn't remember what it was. Do you what exactly a traditional antacid does that makes the problem worse in the long run? I have a food enzyme tablet by Udo's Choice. Would that help solve my problem? Thanks!

141. Antacids?
Are antacids counterproductive? I've heard that acid reflux is a symptom of LOW stomach acid, so wouldn't taking an antacid just lower your available stomach acid further? Or does it work some other way? I'm asking because I am pregnant haven't been 100 percent raw (though I'm desperately trying to be). Two days ago for my birthday, we went to my in laws and I ate some cooked food and had

Kwan, come on now...you are feeding a cycle of bitterness youself. I have not been on this board long enough in recent history to know 'who started it' (and please, no-one try to 'prove' who did), but regardless, there is no need to keep being negative. I've tried hard to not get personal with anyone on this board, but in 'real life' have not always been so successful with that! One thing I have

Jgunn,to be fair, you criticized Lois in the open forum, so when she responds in defense, it's silly to tell her to take it to the moderator, when that is not the channel you chose. To everyone: Political discussions are known for not being pretty...I've seen most everyone in this forum take things personally, get out of hand, etc...Not saying it's right, just saying let's not be hypocritical.

Seriously, I spent like over 4 hours online today, most of it on this site thinking about and formulating both orignal posts and responses to others' posts. I'm getting addicted to the internet. I need help that neither the government nor charities can provide. Peace out for a little while... (we'll see how long it lasts)

I heard Maca can really help with hormonal imbalances. I've also heard that a big mid-section in woman and low sex drive mean hormonal imbalance. Has anyone tried Maca and experienced greater hormonal balance? I know the key to optimal health does not lie in any one particular food, but a particular food may be needed in greater quantity for a time to facilitate quicker healing.

(CNN) -- Tracy Orr sat in the back of the room and prepared to watch her foreclosed home go up for auction this past Saturday. That's when a pesky stranger sat down beside her and struck up a conversation. Tracy Orr faced losing her home to foreclosure when Marilyn Mock, a stranger, stepped in to buy it. "Are you here to buy a house?" Marilyn Mock said. Orr couldn't hold i

Last weekend my cousin and I got into a discussion about waterboarding. She actually got teary eyed as she described the hurt she felt for those who were subjected to that form of torture. She went on to say how it shows total disregard to human suffering and the prisoner's worth as human beings. She said she doesn't care if people think "muslims have no souls." As she was saying

Uncle_Bykel, Have you read the China Study? I believe the book is a must read for any raw foodist and especially anyone who has cancer. The book is FULL of extremely well-documented studies that show in part that: ) People in countries/regions that eat a predominantly plant-based diet have HUGELY lower to ZERO rates of cancer, compared to those who consume a diet with a significant amount

I agree about the China Study. That is a fabulous book, very well-researched, great charts and visuals, and not "in your face" The research in the China Study shows that a diet with NO MORE than 5 percent animal products will prevent Cancer and disease. The author recommends that people follow a vegan diet because he thinks that following the 5 percent rule would be too difficult.

As a homeschooling mom, I am looking for print educational material that is written for elementary age children that supports a raw vegan lifestlye. I would also love material on natural health that may not be perfectly raw vegan, but that would be on this end of the diet spectrum. Is there anything like a "China Study" for kids? I found this material online, is anyone familiar with
