Jodi, I know you said you're kinda winging it with what goes in, but if you quantified your "two big bunches of greens" in kale leaves, how many leaves would that be? I just started with green smoothies again and wanted to know. Also what type of raw diet did you eat before this? (Ie, fruitarian, high fat, mixture, etc...) Sounds like you got some great results!

Personally, I would be concerned about the pain on the right and left sides, and about the heart palpitations. I get palpitations when something is wrong with my diet. If I am eating too many acid-forming foods, that seems to cause my palpitations. I also seem to correct them if make sure I get enough calcium and magnesium from my foods and watch sodium intake (sea salt is all I use...the process

Well upon review, I still think the second link I posted is worth considering. I don't know much about amygdalin (sp?), but either way, the author only says to avoid apple and apricot seeds...not the fruit. And the info about the photosensitivity side effects of handling certain plants, didn't lead the author to conclude not to eat them. Overall I saw the info as cautionary, but nothing outwardly

Truly no birth control method is foolproof. I had my first son at 17 when I was on birth control pills. I had occasionally missed my time for taking my pill, but always followed the directions for catching up. No warning was given that the pill would be ineffective by doing that. I think if you skipped more than two days, they said you could no longer rely on the pill for that cycle, but I never

I didn't really read everything on that second link, but noticed they had references. I'll spend more time looking it over.

Morgan, Sounds like you may be experiencing an allergic reaction. Did you eat any different raw foods Monday or Tuesday? Or maybe it is something in your environment. Consider those possibilities first before chucking it all up to detox. Maybe it is detox, but would be bad if it were really something else that needed attention. I've experienced stomach upset after eating junk--cramping and di

Since the discussion on this thread included natural methods I want to mention "The Ovulation Method." This method has been proven 98-99 percent effective at preventing pregnancy. No temp taking, no internal exams. It involves checking cervical mucous as it appears at the opening of the vagina. This can be used for women with irregular cycles and those who were recently pregnant and an

I am currently nursing my 2 month old infant and thinking of the future. Does anyone have experience nursing beyond 12 months? How about beyond 3 years? I've heard that may be healthy, but feel weird at the idea of a talking child nursing at my breast. But I don't doubt that is simply a cultural view. How do you hold an older child to breastfeed? Do they sit on your lap and look at you? Do they

Tamukha, Thank you for your advice! I did find this summary of a study done on the effects of germination on a particular type of nut. The summary doesn't give the specifics I was looking for, so I gotta try and access the whole article. Also, it's for a type of nut I don't consume anyway, though it does give findings that are likely relevant for other types of nuts.

Does anyone know where we can get nutritional info for raw, soaked or sprouted nuts and nut milks? Since that would be different for raw, but ungerminated nuts or nut milks.

I can easily get raw walnuts at my local store...they make great nut milks! I soak mine for a day then drain, rinse and blend 1 cup of nuts to 4 cups water, strain, then return to blender and add 1 TBS vanilla and 3 TBS raw agave. It tastes really good. Lydia's makes a tasty raw cereal (I tried the less expensive cinnamon version)...check out Natural Zing's website. It's on the expensive side, bu

Has anyone read Storm Talifero's ebook, "Raw Vegan Body Building Muscle Mass"? Is it any good? Will it help my husband with his weight loss problem?

Hi all, My husband is 6 ft and down to around 130 lbs. He wants to be eating all raw, yet is clueless when it comes to raw food prep. I try so hard to prepare food for him, but with a new baby it is near impossible to get anything done. I can barely make raw foods for me (I NEED to lose weight), and he wants me to focus my efforts on me first, since I am nursing. Over the last several months

Following on omega's idea, I wonder how it would taste to add that black mission fig soak water to some naturally fizzy mineral water...might taste even more like a soda!

Thank you all for your well-wishes and advice. I am doing much better. I've taken the iron supplements on and off and eaten lots of prunes and dried apricots. Also lots of greens and LOTS of young coconut water. The coconut water felt really good to drink those first days back from the hospitalk. My color is back in my face, though my inside eyelids are still a bit pale. I am much more mobile and

Has anyone tried the Pampered Chef Mandolin? I'm going to a party tomorrow and was going to buy it, but then I read a review online where the person said they couldn't slice potatoes real thin. Is this true? Does anyone own this piece of equiptment? I would be getting it to slice things like potatoes and jicamas real thin.

Tell me when you spot the deception in theses percentage figures. This is from a vaccine info sheet put out by the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, and approved by one of the most highly respected "authorities" on vaccines, Dr. Paul A. Offit "Do the benefits of the rotavirus vaccine outweigh the risks? Without a rotavirus vaccine, one of every 65 children born in the

Hi all, gotta keep this short and am typing from a handheld device, so this might not look polished. Had my baby on the 24th--beautiful baby boy. I tried for a homebirth but labored for 26 hours and progressed stalled at 8 cm. for hours and I was in excruciating pain so I transfered to a hospital so I could get a little pain relief. As much as I desperatly wanted a drug free birth, the little bit

Why post on a thread if you aren't going to answer the question? It's okay, I've been guilty of going off-topic myself on other's threads, though I try not to But seriously, how about starting a new thread on the pros and cons of imitating cooked food? I just want to know how to make a good imitation raw vegan cream! Thank you for the suggestions so far and especially for the one on the

I understand the frusterations of those who are fed up trying to imitate cooked foods. I am at stage though where I need to do this to succeed, though I also eat simply as much as possible. Fortunately for me, I am a homemaker so I have a lot more time than many in which to spend creating these recipes. I have indeed wasted a good bit of money and time on dishes that did not turn out right, but h

Tamukha, Does strained nut milk still have enough fiber in it to interfere with the whipping process? I strain my nut milk through a nut milk bag before I use it.

I've seen many recipes for vegan "whipped cream" but none of them are anything like full-dairy whipped cream. Will a thick nut milk form peaks when it is whipped? Has anyone had success replicating not only the taste, but more importantly the consistency of whipped cream? I've heard that coconut cream will form peaks, but as this is hard for me to come by, I'm hoping it is possibl

Yes, I do. I know the recipe book is FABULOUS. I too was unable to access the ebook after I paid for it. I emailed her and she replied soon after, but I didn't get her response until the next day, because my email filtered it to my SPAM folder for some reason. Check your SPAM folder. She sent me a PDF file of the book. It's frusterating to have to wait a bit, but the wait is worth it!!!!

Hi all, I am trying to find a recipe for homemade laundry detergent that does NOT contain Fels Naptha soap (I've read some bad things about it). I need something that will remove stains well. Would just water and baking soda and or Borax be sufficient? Is Borax all natural? I would appreciate all suggestions!
