Well, I suppose 11 pounds does sound like a lot. But was it maybe your bowels cleaning out? And excess water being shed because you stopped all the sodium in cooked foods? But is it 11 pounds every week, or only the first few? How do you feel otherwise? You don't have to answer all the questions if you don't want to, but maybe your answers could prompt better advice

Read "Quantum Eating" by Tonya Zavasta. It may be a little advanced for someone who hasn't started eating raw yet, but she has chapters devoted to gaining and losing weight on raw. It has to do with resetting your metabolism through not eating passed a certain time, to allow your body to experience a sort of "daily fast." The book is very well researched. You may want to r

Juicer. Get the best juicer you can and buy an Oster Beehive Blender for 39 bucks until you can get your vitamix. The Greenstar is what I have and I love that it makes juice that will have minimal oxidation for a few days (48 hours, I think). The best thing it did for me when transitioning was make ice cream out of frozen banana, GREAT for cravings. I just recently started using it to actuall

Also, Shazzie has a book called "Evie's Kitchen." It's all about how she raised her raw vegan daughter, plus recipes. I got it and I am glad I have it. She goes into nutritional needs for raw babies and kids too. She has some very well researched stuff in that category. I will mention, that there are numerous shots of Shazzie's breasts in the book (in relation to her breastfeedin

hiddenfang, I am mostly "raw" and have an 8 month infant. Eating more raw does not affect my milk supply, and in fact, eating raw (or at least cooked vegan) affects my baby in a good way. If I slip and have dairy or other things, he gets real cranky and he will start getting little pimples here and there. When vegan, his skin is very smooth and beautiful. When eating mostly raw f

I don't know of an accurate way to check my BMI, though the general guidlines for my height say anywhere between 105 and 135. 135 looks unhealthy on me, and at 122 I still have a good deal of fat in the wrong places. I always thought 105 would be way too little for me, but now I am thinking it may look good. Guess I'll just hope to keep losing and stop whenever I look proportionate, whatever the

Hello Kitty, What is your height? I am 5'2 and down to 122 (from a high of 155), but I still look like I need to lose more weight, I just wonder how much. You look good in your picture, so I was wondering how tall you were; then I might know if I should aim for 105. I know everyone is different, but it would still be helpful for me to know. I am also thinking of juice feasting. Maybe it

Check out www.toothsoap.com. Most toothpastes, even natural ones, are made with glycerin, which coats the surface of your teeth and prevents them from remineralizing from your own saliva. I can't afford toothsoap right now, but I switched to the only toothpaste I could find at my local health food store that doesn't have glycerin in it. After a week, I think my teeth look whiter. The toothpas

Try the Oster Beehive 600 watt blender first...39.99 at Target, and it does almost everything I've seen the vitamix do in the videos. You will be very happy with it and not be out much money. Then you can decide whether or not to upgrade. Had mine for 2 years and it's handled around three big jobs a day, every day, in that time. Replaced my blades once and got an extra carafe for very cheap o

Christine, You may want to compare your asking price with the ones on ebay...there are a lot of buy it now prices in the $275 range...maybe that's why you aren't getting many hits. Good luck though!

Another way to tell the difference between cooked and raw corn on the cob, is this: Corn that has been cooked or steamed and then refrigerated will go rank if left sitting out for much time (or even if left in the fridge for much time). Fresh (raw) corn on the cob will last much longer.

My neighbors farm backs up to my property and he grows sweet corn. He lets us pick our own for free when it's ready. Fresh (raw) corn on the cob is indeed very similar to steamed in texture and taste. Fresh (raw) corn on the cob is "milkier" than cooked corn. But it is definitely not hard. Corn on the cob that is hard has been left in the field until it is dried like that, and then

Tamukha, Boutenko based her claim on Weston Price's research, showing that people groups who are still alive today have room for all their teeth....depending on whether they eat a traditional or "white man's" diet. Now, I'm not a fan of Weston's dietary bent (meat, etc...) but if you look at his photos and research, it does show that full mouth capacity can exist today, and it doesn

According to Victoria Bountenko, in her book, Green For Life, she says how wisdom teeth have only become a problem for us humans in very recent history (couple hundred years or less, can't remember). Her research showed her that wisdom teeth don't fit in many people's mouths because our jaws are narrower and smaller due to vitamin K deficiency in our mothers when they were pregnant with us. Hen

Ok, I'll be the first to go, though it's probably mostly obvious. "Music" is because I am a musician and love music, and "bebe" is sort of like "baby" but cooler. What is the meaning of, and why did you choose your screen name?

For me a Dr.Bonners soap would burn! The only thing that doesn't burn me is anything by California Baby. I use that only on the external area of course. Also, the healthier you eat the less it smells down there. But I still always wash with that CB stuff, because I know my husband prefers a cleaner scent--and since he's the one getting up close and personal, I'll give him that right! It never

I just read Tonya's book, "Raw Food And Hot Yoga," a book I highly recommend! While some of it is about Hot Yoga, most of it is about anti-aging and raw foods, and when you eat them. As she says in her lectures, she does not repeat information in her books (though she will briefly summarize) something I appreciate, because I can't stand buying books from the same author that are so repe

I also use and love the Oster. I've used mine heavily (up to 3 smoothies every day), and it's lasted a year and a half so far. I did need to order new blades after a year. You can get them real cheap on ebay. I also got an extra carafe. Two new blade sets and a rectangular glass carafe were 40 some bucks, shipped. It definitely gets kale totally smooth. Sometimes I've noticed with other gr

Link on nitrate poisoning: Link on foods and blood thinning. This person wrote a well researched article but warns she is not an expert, though I found a lot of this info from expert sources myself: Also, that articles mentions something - forgot to say about salicylates (sp?), which are blood thinning and present in OJ and oranges--something in our smoothies every day!! Hello kitty-- utopian life was not referring to you, he was referring to SuperInfinity who made the initial insensitive, rude comment about you being a young lady new to raw so what would you know. I value your opinion, hellokitty, and you have nothing to apologize about! Something else happened to me today after I pos

My husband and I are noticing that our blood is much thinner now that we are regularly consuming green smoothies every morning. My husband in particular is bothered by this. He says if he is hit by something that doesn't break the skin, blood pools up under the surface and will actually start seeking out his pores a little (ew). I know people on the SAD have too thick blood, so thinner is better

Well, I fed him a little bit of apple blended with well water, and he started going again. I feed him this once a day, or so, and it seems to have gotten things moving nicely. If that hadn't have worked, someone at the health food store suggested infant probiotics.
