571. Re: Oats
Rolled oats are not raw, infact, most oats are not raw, they are denatured to make them last longer (otherwise they go rancid after a few months). There are real raw oats you can buy and make rolled oats. I bought some, I don't remember where, but it's in some raw oats thread from a month or two ago. I was able to sprout them. But I normally just eat them raw and dry. I keep meaning to run s

Coconut butter/Coconut oil is always good. You can also blend nuts (soaked cashewnuts work well), adding water and a little oil until you get it to the right thickness. Cheers, Ian.

Hi Lilpaws! I've not tried eating raw eggplant yet. But when I was eating cooked foods, i found that salting the eggplant and letting it sit for 30minutes to an hour made it taste a lot better. I'll try the dehydrated eggplant thing some time soon. Cheers, Ian.

I've heard of people eating raw artichokes. I tried to eat a raw artichoke heard once, it was rather bitter. Maybe it wasn't really ripe? Maybe there is some trick to it, like covering it in salt and letting it sit for a while (kind of like eggplants). Maybe soaking in lemon juice for a while. I eat thistle hearts when I get the chance. It's a bit of work getting them out, but they taste

I think they might be cooked as well. I openned the packet and tasted them the other day, they don't really taste of anything, a little while afterwards I notice a slight discormfort in my belly. They do look pretty, but I don't think I'll eat them again (maybe I'll give them another shot if the company claims they are raw). I wonder what seaweeds could be made into raw noodles/pastas. Mayb

I burnt my hand on some steam once, judging from the pain, redness and blistering, I think that steaming is pretty harmful (even if it's just your food you're steaming). I think "cooking" your food in acid (i.e., soaking grains or whatever in lemon juice over night) isn't really harmful. Ian.

Hi Marcos, I got some kelp noodles in the US, they from a company called Sea Tangle, they are made in California, and for the life of me I can't remember where I bought them. To tell the truth I'm not 100% sure if they are raw, but I wasn't able to find information that says they are cooked either. Their website is www.kelpnoodles.com. Cheers, Ian.

I used some of my jungle peanuts to make a spicy thai peanut sauce for some salad. But I ate most of the peanuts unsoaked and unsprouted. I'm glad to hear they can be sprouted easily. Thanks, Ian.

I use hemp oil based salad dressings. Normally just hemp oil and nama shoyu or lemon juice. Sometimes I'll had finely chopped garlic, somes finely chopped garlic and ginger (this goes really well if you put mango in the salad). Mmmmmm yummy. Ian.

Heheh, some people here will tell you that juicing will kill you in a couple of days (ok, i didn't hear that) and causes rapid aging and is really bad for your health. Personally I think that is complete poppy-@#$%& (BS). My perference is for combining juicing and blending. Juice some fruit, add the juicing to some bananas, flax seeds, papaya, mango, some greens in a blender and make a nice

I like the texture of dehydrated foods. I find myself dehydrating for two main reasons, 1) I need to take food camping and fresh food won't last long enough, 2) I want something chewy or crunchy to eat. Cheers, Ian.

Recently I was reading about one of those eat competitions, you know, the how many hot dogs can you eat, or pasta, or burges, or whatever in a certain time frame. I find the whole thing kind of offensive in a "hey, that's not healthy guys and gals" way. Soooo, what about a raw vegan eat competition? How many bananas can you eat in ten minutes? How many slices of raw vegan cheese c

I'm a Champion juicer fan, many say it's out dated, but I still have a long way to go before I out grow mine. As well as juicing, you can also make nut butters and banana icecream with it. It's made of food grade Nylon, but the inside part of the juicer has a stainless steel insert, so the food on plastic surface area is well reduced. It's also fairly easy to clean compared to the centrofu

The raw brownies Jen Rose post make a great binge food: I like binges. ;-) Chocolate makes me happy, so I see no reason to stop eating it. Although I hardly eat any compared to the pre-raw days. Keep some raw beans handy to snack on for those stressful moments. Take care, Ian.

When I have fresh beans, I just eat them without sprouting them. They are really quite soft and sweet (and green) straight from the shell. This is pretty much the only way I can eat chickpeas, I don't like the taste of sprouted dry beans. How did the hummus turn out? Cheers, Ian.

Personally, I prefer fresh chickpeas to sprouted. The fresh ones in the there shells are by far the best I've tasted. The sprouted ones seem to be a little bitter/starchy. You can make hummas with them. Also you could make a chana masala. I posted a Chana Masala recipe to this thread: I bet they could be made into falafel as well. Some people have recommend blanching the sprouted

Ah, I'm really bad at spelling and get things like cocao, cacao and cocoa mixed up (what is the difference between these anyway?). I made my batch of these with raw cacao powder (I was grinding my own beans, but found it was a little on the gritty side - then found some in powder form). Of course, I like the stimulating effect (I keep a bag of whole cacao beans when I'm driving long distances
