I agree that Amsden's book is good...but he uses ALOT of nuts and shoyu....I love Raw food/Real World....alot of coconut butter, but you can adjust the recipes though...Cornbleet's book is simplest of all, and Juliano's recipe lists...OMG...SOOO long! Its fun looking at all the books though...they are all very creative.

SO when it comes to soy, the best approach to take is the "whole food" one...ie, soy pods vs processed soy (milk, etc)? Like eating whole fruit or whole grain instead of the bastardized, refined versions of them? It makes sense. What do you think of rice milk?

I am raw about 50% right now. I would like to up that % so I can lose more weight ( am currently aobut 65 lbs over what I need to be :O ) My problem is that I crave certain things at certain times and no raw alternative seems to satisfy the craving. I try to stay away from all the nut-based recipes in my raw food recipe books (and there are a TON of those recipes!!) Anyone have any suggestions

I have been reading so much more about the harmful effects of soy, and was wondering what people here think about it? I have always used unsweetened soy milk, or occasionally soy cheese, and I also like to use Amy's brand veggie burgers (some of which contain soy). I am not 100% raw, so I do use other vegan products, most of which are usually soy based. I have tried Almond milk and Hazelnut mi

Hi all- Thanks for your input...I appreciate the feedback. To answer a few questions.... 1. Yes, I went raw to help with my weightloss..I gained about 45 pounds while recovering from a back injury. I was a runner, and got depressed b/c I could not run...so didn't do anything(big mistake). I can run on a treadmill now, but no longer on pavement, and no more training for a 1/2 marathonn...

Ok, here it goes....I bought the "Raw Food Detox Diet" book...like it. I have followed it pretty close and eat only raw during the day. I have cut WAY back on nuts and seeds and fatty fruit/veggies. I eat 1 cooked meal daily, although I want to transition to that final meal as RAW. I have not started exercising yet, so that is that. Heres the thing... I have not lost 1 pound!!

Yeah, the food in the recipe book is pretty high in fat...alot of coconut meat, and coco butter...but still really good recipes....I'm a complete foodie so it is fine by me, but your right, can't eat too much of that stuff!

I will do that...thanks Bryan! Oh, let me ask you this...I'm still trying to go all raw....am not losing ANY weight! Eating cooked in the pm, and go all raw/green juice during the day....What should I change...NO cooked at all, and the 80-10-10? I feel pretty good, but frustrated w/ no weight loss...need to lose weight gained during back recovery. Feel like I'm still in transition, and yet fee

40. Wine
I know, I know, I'm posting like a mad woman here...but I was wondering how drinking wine effects any of you? I find that I do not wish to drink the amount I used to, (usually 2 glasses or more) and my body rejects it quite easily, where before I drank wine with nearly all my dinner meals..(Red wine, you know..."good for the heart" ;P ) PS- I'm not really an alcoholic...I'm in th

Could someone who does the 80-10-10 thing please give me a good example of what they eat during a day? All info seems so evasive, and I have not got the book as of yet. Where is the 10% protein coming from?

When you go to the "menu" section and scroll through, you see these desserts they are making, and its crazy how they look like cooked cakes...texutre and all....Does anyone have any idea HOW th

I personally don't take supplements...I think they are a waste of $. If your eating as much green food as you say, then I would think you don't need to drink powdered green stuff. The point about getting enough b vitamens was true enough, though. I get mine through nutritional yeast added to food from time to time. I think if you eat a diet rich in fruits, veggies, and some healthy fats (nuts

No company, and husband is deployed, so its just ME! I'm thinking some kind of salad and maybe some kind of bruschetta or something....I just wondered what anyone else might do for the day's meal, if they celebrate it.

Radabl- I would suggest going to a library or a bookstore and reading up on raw food recipe books to see what they are like. Jennifer Cornbleet has a book out called Raw Food for 1 or 2 People. It is very simple and does not require much in the way of appliances. She specifically wrote the recipes to exclude the use of dehydrators and most appliances save for a food processor or blender. Hi Moonlit- I have been eating a partially raw diet for a while now, but have been transitioning into it. Trying to jump into "the deep end of the pool" headfirst does not work for me. I lost alot of energy, was really grumpy, and felt like crap. I was a vegan/vegetarian for a long time, but found myself eating so much soy and fake meat products that I felt worse than when I wasnt veg

Could someone please explain the 80/10/10 approach in dummy terms to me? I looked for explanations online and found none that said what it is exactley. 80% what? 10%? 10%? Thanks- Dafodil

Hey Coco- Wow...you expressed so clearly what I feel like most of the time. I myself have food/self/body image issues....then again I don't think I know a single woman who doesn't. Thanks for your honesty. Looking at your web page and seeing photos of you, one would think that you haven't a care in the world when it comes to looks or body image ( I mean this in the most positive way). That ju

Hi Coco- I really appreciate your insightful thoughts about why people say/do things either on this board or just in day to day life. Like when someone asks how you are doing, and you say "I'm good, how are you?", but neither person really wants to hear about the other's life details (I hope that made sense). I think people are so conditioned to be politically correct, polite, and

Hey all...thanks for the input and advice..your right Bryan....I learned from those consequences.....its like when you stop drinking and then have two or three glasses of wine...HANGOVER! UGH! I can't handle that anymore either....I feel like my body is rejecting alot of stuff I used to eat all the time. As for the remarks about eating cooked=bad whatever...well, sorry, but I have to transition

ok, well, I've been eating one (healthy) cooked meal per day..the rest has been green lemonade, which I have come to really like! But today my eating demons awoke and I had pizza, carrot cake(yes, with all the cream cheese frosting) and gingerale. I feel like total crap.....bloated, gassy, you name it. Should do nothing but juice tommorrow? I had no green juice today at all, and only ate the s

I'm considering opening a raw food juice bar/cafe sort of thing. ALot of juices/blends and takeout salads, wraps, raw cookies and such. I do NOT want to be another Jamba or Keva juice place where everything is loaded w/ dairy and frozen yogurt concoctions. People have pointed out that I will need to "cut" the juices with something in order to keep prices reasonable. Any advice on th

Hi angelissma- I'm fairly new to raw, and I've been tranitioning w/ about 80%-90% raw and the rest cooked. I tried to go hard core 100% at first and my body rejected that. I had much of the same symtoms you described. I phased out coffee (thank god!) but I'm using the Natalia Rose "Detox Diet" plan to help me over the humps. Used to be pretty unhealthy strict vegan (oxymoronic?) but

Your so right about that!! I've been feeling much better about the choices I've made (from a dietary standpoint) recently, and I realize that I DON'T have to be the hard-core-all-or-nothing-raw-zealot in order to feel better and be healthier! Being 80-90% raw is working great for me...so far no headaches, weird cravings, or feeling exhausted. Thanks to you all for your input! Dafodil

Hi Coco- Yeah, I think for now,the "whatever it takes" approach is working for me...I have only been eating cooked for dinner, usually salmon and veg, or a large salad w/ some raw goat cheese. I used to be vegan, and became quite the unhealthy vegan at that! I think this will ease me back into a total raw/vegan (the healthy one) diet that my body does very well with. I know I may so

I think thats whats been going on with me! I went 100% raw for a week and was feeling like total ass!!! Easing into it is much better for me, even if I'm only eating 20% cooked, thats enough to stave off detox symtoms. I was having major physical and mental side effects of going all raw all at once, and although, I'm one of those "all-or-nothing" people, that approach does not always
