Paul, When measured calorically, 4 ounces of raw almonds is almost 99% fat, that's just the truth. There's no judgement inherent to that number. To say that it's somehow misleading is to react defensively to a statement of fact. So the question is, why would you feel defensive when someone points out that a 4 oz almond intake is 99% fat? Is it because the number feels disturbing to you

Good post, Bryan. What you've written ties in to some thoughts that have been on my mind lately, while I've been reading all of the posts about gurus, role-models, etc. It seems to me that our school system, political system, and entertainment media have all conditioned many people to look to outsiders to guide them and provide them with a map for behavior and living. Almost as though they

I agree with the suggestions to add celery to your dressings. It took me a week to enjoy salads without salt. First day I thought I'd throw up because the salad tasted so bland. By the end of the week I wondered why I'd ever needed it. I was lucky though, because I know people who needed at least a month to adjust to the lack of salt. So be persistent and be prepared to consciously eat and de

I'm not posting these articles to disagree with the concerns about GM produce. But I do think we need to be clear on what exactly is going on, and to not spread fear of GM tomatoes and such when in fact no such product exists on the shelves. These companies are constantly attempting to develop new products, so it's important to realize that the possibility of genetically modified fruits and v

And from here you can see that there are very few fruits and vegetables that are genetically modified on the market. Corn, cotton, and soy are the main foods to watch for: In the mid-'90s, amid much fuss, a biotech firm called Calgene introduced the Flav'r Saver tomato. Genetically engineered to last longer on the shelf, the Flav'r Saver didn't turn out to have much "flav'r" to save

Tamukha, that's not true. There are no genetically modified tomatoes being sold in the United States. That being said, we must continue to be vigilant and ensure that this remains the case. See below, from this website: Am I eating genetically engineered tomatoes? Short answer: no. Several genetically engineered varieties of tomatoes have been developed in the US and approved for commerc

Omega wrote: "Yeah, I agree, the standard seedless banana is NOT fruit! " So, yesterday I ate some seedless tangerines from my friend's tree. Last year, tangerines from the same tree had seeds in them. I wasn't surprised, because this is a common phenomenon with citrus. It will change from seeded to seedless depending on the year, the temperature, etc. Are you implying that

They've been selling cooked foods for years, nama shoyu being first on the list. No surprise. They sell products raw foodists want, whether the products are cooked or raw.

I agree with Bryan. My health improved on so many levels when I finally stopped consuming all oils. They are the most refined food a "raw foodist" can consume. That being said, try it out in your juice if you want. Even when I was eating a lot of raw oils, putting it juice made me gag.

This issue has been floating around for years and years. It's simply not true that bananas will become extinct. There are hundreds of varieties of bananas, most of which taste better than the ones common to grocery stores. The author of the article doesn't appear to be very well educated on the subject because I have tasted at least 11 varieties of bananas that were sweeter and more delicious tha

Joshua Rainbow's fruitarian/raw food/breatharian book "Biotrophic Protocol" has a chapter discussing this phenomenon in great depth. Email me if you want me to send you the article (he states that anyone is free to reproduce and share the material.)

Yeah, unfortunately this didn't shock me in the slightest either. I've known parents who do this and it's not that uncommon of a practice. I don't believe it's healthful and bleach is toxic, but it's "normal." You'd be laughed at if you reported it.

Right now my main calorie source is persimmons. Soon it will be cherimoyas and tangerines, then oranges. No need to limit yourself to bananas. I know you said "not as sweet as bananas." You can adjust the sensation of sweetness by increasing or decreasing the amount of greens you eat with each bite of fruit. If persimmons, cherimoyas, bananas, etc, are too sweet for you, try eating them

Of course there are so many factors that could be causing this that it's impossible to accurately say based on the limited info, but what jumps out to me is the "vegan broth." Almost every vegan broth I've ever seen is quite salty, and any very liquid, salty substance will cause water retention in most people. Don't know how much salt you eat in your raw diet at home, but the sauerkraut

It depends on your activity level and lifestyle as well as the composition of the rest of your diet. I have not found that there is anything magical or special about avocados as far as gaining weight is concerned. I know quite a few people who put on unwanted weight on raw diets due to what I would consider excessive avocado consumption.

ecjames1120, you must have entered your figures incorrectly or you aren't mentioning the fats that you ate that day. There's no way the lettuce, tomato, and kiwis would bring your total over 20 percent. The higher relative fat content in the lettuce is insignificant because lettuce isn't eaten in significant caloric quantity to effect the total ratios to any real extent.

Check out the advertisements for chiquita bananas in the late 1800s, early 1900s on the web. All the pictures and descriptions of how to eat them match what Bryan is saying. As you progress through the decades, the pictures get more and more unripe, coinciding with a desire to move more product and less concern for quality. It's fascinating to see a brown speckled banana in an ad because nowadays

I did note distinctive improvements in posture. I found that it required less effort for me to maintain my posture and form and my flexibility improved. But it was limited and eventually I realized that if I wanted to attain the level of flexibility that I desired, I would have to include the types of practices that iLIVE mentioned. So yes, and very significantly. But only to a point.

Yes, I would absolutely feel better and would get better results eating moderate amounts of green vegetables and nothing else as a sort of "fast" instead of juicing them, as long as I were to observe other conditions usual to a "fast" like adequate water, etc. I also believe that it's true for everyone if they were to try it, but if anyone feels differently, no big deal, we al

iLIVE, Tomatoes are tropical, native to central America. It's a simple plan, not stressful or difficult or complicated. Graham's fond of summing it up by stating that it consists of "raw fresh organic plant foods, one at a time, when hungry, until full." Nothing complex about it. Obviously with a de-emphasis on fattier foods. Never any recommendation not to eat fruits found outsi

Of note is the fact that Natural hygiene is a philosophy primarily based on consistent ways of analysis and determination (this should be clear regardless of whether or not one believes NH to be a valid system). That's true, Bryan. I have heard Doug state many times that for athletes he advises that they plan their transition in the off season of their sport because of the possible detox and reduced performance that they are likely to experience. And he has been saying this for years. I don't believe that he ever said one could do so "symptom free." debbietook, that's interesting that there

Are you kidding me? Do you really base your nutrition information on whether or not someone is "a real nice guy?" I can't tell you what sort of ignorant haze I would find myself in if I based all of my learning on whether or not my teachers were "real nice guys." As far as appearances go, I have met Dr. Graham personally numerous times and find him to be a healthy look
