If someone is eating higher fruit, but the same amount of calories as before increasing fruit, is it necessary to add a lot of exercise so that there's no weight gain? Wouldn't it make sense that the same number of calories would require the same amount of exercise to maintain the weight? I've gone up seven pounds over the past 2-3 weeks. The only change in my diet has been that I've been craz

Bryan, You are so sweet and lovely. I always love your energy here on the boards, and I loved it just as much on the audio. My favorite part was when you talked about the cycle of energy and how foods are converted to sugar for energy. Many people don't know this and it can really help them break from the mentality that we get our energy from protein. Thanks for sharing, Bryan! Lots

I was craving cauliflower for some time, so I considered it to be very healthy for my body at that given time. Had I been eating it when I wasn't drawn to eat it, however, it might not have been so good for my body. My feelings about greens are the same...if I'm drawn to eat them (and I am, most times), then they are good for my body. However, if they don't taste good to me then my body probab

*HUGS* I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. Our rescue Doby pup is doing so much better on a raw meat and bones diet. She also likes veggies and fruits, so we let her have them. Her skin problem is getting better, especially now that we're adding fish capsules. Humans on raw see a vast improvement and cure of arthritis, so I can only imagine it would work just as well for your dog if you a

Thanks, WY! I was thinking the 80/10/10 pound of greens might be equal to the greens section of the pie chart, but I guess not. I'm going to be reading the Green For Life book this weekend. I'm not one to completely follow any one person's advice, but I like to be open and find out what others are doing. I'm currently trying out 80/10/10 to see how it feels for my body. I like experiement

Hi everyone, I just picked up the Green For Life book from the library. I haven't read it yet, but I have a question. Inside the front flap there are some pie charts, showing that the diet of a wild chimp (which the book is based on, I believe) is predominantly fruit, followed by a lot of greens and a small percentage of fats. I've read Dough Graham's 80/10/10 book, and this pie chart is looki

Thanks, everyone. I do have the 80/10/10 book and Dr Graham's newest recipe book. I think I'm going to do it...challenge myself to do the 80/10/10 for 100 days to see how it makes me feel. Do you think 50 days of following 80/10/10 at 100% will be long enough to feel a difference? I'm asking because I'm thinking I'd like to get closer and closer to 80/10/10 over the first 50 days and then for

Dancer, That's the exact same reason that I've been holding onto eating heavy fats way beyond the time my body told me they don't feel good anymore. The cleaner my system gets, however, the less I can eat of them. It's like my body is insisting on this final cleanse, to get rid of the emotional baggage that is still there waiting to be purged. I've joined Bunny Berry's 100 Day Raw Food Chal

I've been raw for about two years and I'm thinking maybe I'm ready to move myself to a higher level of health. I'm doing a 100-day challenge through www.rawfu.com and I might eat 80/10/10 for the 100 days. I've been slowly eating more and more fruit (it's happening naturally!), so I figure now is the best time to try out 80/10/10 at 100% for a few months. Is 100 days enough to feel a positive dif

How very forward-thinking of your grandmother! Please give her a huge hug from me for even considering a raw diet. It's not an easy thing to change one's diet and at that age I can only imagine it would be even more difficult (not because of the food, but because of our history of being taught to eat cooked foods). I agree that smoothies may be a great introduction for raw, as well as puddings

*HUGS* You know, it's all just part of your journey. You are walking on the raw path and you've hit a bumpy patch and fallen off a bit. It could very well be that the emotional stuff you are going through is what has you resorting to food to numb your feelings. Just feel it all, know that this is just a particular moment in your life and it won't always be this way. If you want to be higher ra

Can those of you from Northern California tell me your thoughts on the Los Gatos Mountain area? I've never been to CA, but we will be moving there and we are trying to narrow down some places to consider when we arrive. What are the pros/cons of the mountain areas of Los Gatos (we don't want to live right in any city/town). Thanks for any input! Love, Wendi XOXOXO

Is there also a mold that sometimes gets on the dates, though? One time I was getting dates at the food co-op and they all had a white coating on them which I had never seen on any dates before. It wasn't crystal-like--it was more like a powder than anything else. I didn't get them, because it seemed like some kind of mold. They must have thought there was something wrong with them, too, because

I haven't been to India as a raw foodist, yet. However, when I was there and eating cooked foods, I carried around alcohol swabs/towlettes and wiped down fruits and plates/utensils. With the fruits, I then rinsed them with bottled water. I didn't get sick at all while I was there and I partly believed it was from all of the fresh pineapple juice I was drinking. Just about every day I had at least

YUM! Last year purslane was all over in my garden and yard and I had such a lovely time "weeding" and munching. I noticed that my fingernails and teeth turned extra while when I was eating the purslane. Does anyone know why that would be? This year, no purslane has come up. I was really sad about it. I think I ate too much of it and it wasn't able to create any new plants. :-P Lo

I had a similar experience to David's. In the beginning I would eat 6-12 in one sitting. Now, I eat about four and I'm full. No day is typical for me, so it's hard to say how many bananas I eat on a daily basis. I usually go through phases of eating one thing a lot until I no longer desire it so much. At that time, something else usually becomes a big desire and I find myself eating the new i

Do you know anything about the Los Gatos Mountain area? Is there a lot of smoke there from the fires? It's one of the areas my family is really drawn to, so we'd like to hear any of the negatives (and positives) about it. One hour from a larger city is very nice. I'll check out the areas you've mentioned, as well. Thanks! Lots of love to you, Wendi XOXOXO

We've been selling off all our possessions, getting closer to the point when we'll be starting our new journey. As a family, we've been looking over all the areas in Northern California that have been recommended here, and somewhere along the way my husband stumbled onto a little town called Los Gatos (the cats). Our daughter is obsessed with cats--draws, paints, sculpts, etc., them all the ti

dewey, we only have it narrowed down to Northern CA. It will most likely depend on where my husband finally gets a job--or whether we find a place and just KNOW it's the place for us. I'm kind of drawn to the Garberville/Sebastopol area, but I'm not sure if my husband can find a job within an hour of there. My daughter is a huge cat fan and wants us to please find a way to afford living in Los Ga

Wow! What a fantastic opportunity to help teens learn about a better way of eating!! Congratulations and I hope you have a great time! I think with that age, it might be good to point out that even though their youthful bodies seem to be dealing with unhealthy foods just fine, it's the long-term effects that they might want to think about. Life comes from life...that's what I'd probably rep

We are in the middle of the moving process. We're selling all of our possessions, including our home, buying an RV, and traveling slowly across the US from PA to CA. We've chosen Northern California (final destination is unknown) for our new home. We've had just about every friend and family memeber tell us how wrong this all is, but it feels so right. It's too cold here, not enough sunshine,

Hi Rosemary. If anything, I eat too much potassium. ;-) ======= MY UPDATE: Well, I repeated the herb-heavy dish that I ate prior to the edema and nothing happened (other than experiencing some amazingly tasty food!). I've been including salt again, but at about 1/2 the quantity I normally used (which I'll try to maintain and someday decrease it even more). I've been eating the fats in

It may very well be that your body no longer needs the vitamins/minerals from the foods you've been eating and it's telling you to find something else. However, it could possibly be about more than the food--your mind might be trying to find excuses to not eat raw foods, so that you can feel the comfort that cooked foods give. How are you doing now, with the taste for raw food? I'm sending

Thanks, Bryan. Right now is definitely not a good time for me to do an extended water fast. If I had edema that wasn't going away, I'm sure I'd put a halt to everything in my life and do things to allow my body to heal on a such a deep level as you are describing with a supervised fast. The swelling has not come back since I last wrote about it. I continued with no salt, fats from oil or nu
