I don't eat many of the prepared raw goodies (nearest health food store is 45-50 miles away and they are pricey). But I do have a couple of raw bars in my purse in case I need them when out and about. My husband was traveling recently and bought me a package of choc fudge Raweos. I have never tasted them before and I'm saving them for the weekend when we go to our three day camp out family r

Hi Everybody. I'm hoping that someone can help me find something that was posted recently (within the last two weeks - I think) Someone gave a live link to a website that showed a video of two guys with banana bunch loincloths doing a raw food demo and getting hammered at the same time. It was pretty funny and I wanted to show it to my husband. I don't know which forum, message or poster. I

It's OK, Rooneymuldooney! They go at it like this all the time. At first I wished they'd "take it outside" (or at least to private e-mailing). But, then I realized that we really do get to hear "both sides of the coin" and then come to our own conclusions. I realize that the "negative vibes" can feel pretty disturbing on an otherwise very positive site. I would

I've been trying to "up" my organic foods. Most of the nuts and seeds that I buy from the bulk bins are organic. I buy organic lettuce and other greens most of the time. Now and then I buy kale that's not organic. Right now I have coupons for for some organic products. If you check out the web sites of some of the major organic companies, you can sometimes find coupons to print out

Thanks for that response, Bryan. It's nice to know that you also had to "work at it". I forgot to mention before, POPCORN! That was another tough one. It still is when I go to a movie. I take a little baggie of salted nuts in my purse. I really missed breads for a while. But, like Bryan said, I feel sooooooooo much better without them. I always knew on some level that they

For me, the "bread thing" was the hardest thing to get over. Sometimes my husband would be making toast, and I thought I would go crazy! Potatoes were the next hardest food to give up. I've seen Ezekiel sprouted tortillas at the health food store. You got some good suggestions from the previous posters. One thing that I will add - I spend more time in the kitchen than I used t

Doughnuts are newbies who still crave bread and pasta and spend endless hours upon hours upon hours trying to come up with something that tastes like fettuchini alfredo or whole wheat sandwich bread - until they go nuts! Sure - they're allowed - In fact, most of us were one at some point! Life Is Good! alive!

If I were recovering from alcoholism (which I am) I would stay away from the .5% alcohol - no kidding! Not becuause of the "buzz" so much, but from the trigger effect. Just having that slight alcohol taste, smell, warmth etc. can be a POWERFUL reminder and temptation to go get the "real thing". Just my opinion. Life Is Good! alive!

Bryan, I have to admit that many of the comments and opinions that you post are very persuasive. You seem to be very knowledgable and experienced. I think that there are beliefs that you post that are true, but I don't want for them to be. I'm maybe just not ready for them yet. I've been raw for one and a half years and am still very much "owned" by some of my food preferences.

Yup, me too! I was driving past a little mini-strip mall today and noticed that it had a nice band of deep green bricks around it and I found myself thinking "What a nice color of green - boy I wish I could eat something that color."!!!!!! Then I LOL'd and drove away smiling! If I tried to tell my mother or sister or husband about that - well, they just wouldn't get it. But I know

Here's a few things that helped me in the early days. I was constantly reading one book or another and looking through recipe books. It kept me focused on the goal and the reasons why I wanted to go raw. Reading the posts on this web site helped, too. I allowed myself to eat pretty much anything I wanted and as much as I wanted - as long as it was raw. That was my only rule. I made a li

My dehydrator is going night and day right now. My niece, sister and Mother are all bringing me tomatoes from their gardens. (I can't grow them at my house because of my walnut trees - tomatoes don't do well around walnut trees). I slice the tomatoes and just lay them on the screens. I bag them up after they are finished drying. Some of them I put (just a few slices at a time) into the blende

Boy, you all are making me salivate. Just reading about the peanuts is making me a little crazy. I didn't want to spend the money, but maybe I'll decide to anyway. I've spent more money on food since going raw, but saved money on less eating out. Oh what the heck - I'm planning to save a fortune in health care costs and besides - WE'RE ALL WORTH IT!!!!!!!! the "RAW MORCOS MONSTER" doesn't like David Wolfe and his cronies over at NFL and usually he wakes up and growls any time we mention them. Are you out there, "RAW MARCOS MONSTER"? Life Is Good! alive!

I agree with you - those raw jungle peanuts from Natures' First Law are REALLY good! I thought I was done with peanuts - and then I discovered them! I have only ordered them once and I savored every last one of them. I'm planning to buy some more and try making a peanut sauce for zuchinni pasta. But alas, now we've mentioned Natures' First Law: so we may have awakened the "RAW MARC

I recently bought a bag of purple corn kernels from Natural Zing. I ground some of them in my coffee grinder, added salt, sunflower seeds, lime, etc and dehydrated them. I ended up with some pretty tasty blue corn chips. That led me to thinking about corn meal. I remember David Wolfe saying that heirloom seeds and nuts are not prone to aflatoxins as are hybridized seeds and nuts. Why is it

I just re-read your post giottaj. Something came to mind that I had forgotten. I also went through a period (very short) of time where meat looked good to me and I've been a vegan for 15 years!!! It really unnerved me!!! I couldn't believe it. I love animals so much, see meat as something really dead and putrifying and I was grossed out at myself for even having those thoughts. Later it wa

I decided to start heating my soups last winter. I knew I was likely to "over do it" and get the temperature too high and start killing the enzymes. I bought a food thermometer to make sure that I wasn't going over 105 degrees. I found that it helped on those winter nights when I wanted something to warm up my insides. Life Is Good! alive!

What worked for me in the "early days" was that I let myself eat anything that I wanted in any amount that I wanted - as long as it was raw. I'd eat two or three dehydrated raw fruit bars at a time, or half a jar of nut butter or an entire package of raw cookies from the health food store. For me, (not necessarily for everyone) the thing that I realized was that IF I DON'T WANT T

Hey Sunshine! When you get your hands on one of those books and figure out which plant you ate, let us know. I didn't get to go to camp, but I do live in the midwest and I'd love to know. Thanks! Life Is Good! alive!

Has anyone ever known anyone who was diagnosed as having protein deficiency? I can actually say that for all the talk and all the warnings that we all grew up with - I have never heard of anyone that became ill, went to their doctor for examination and then come away diagnosed as protein deficient!!!!!!! I don't even know what the symptoms would be. Maybe someone who was simply not eating enou

I use "vitamineral green" in all my smoothies. I don't consider myself a great judge, since I haven't tried other superfood greens. But, you might want to check out what Doug Walsh has to say about it. He's the guy who hiked the "Divide" last summer and he swears by it. What he did was grueling, and so I made my decision based on his experience rather than my own. www.raw

Hello humbug! You can purchase raw sunflower seeds that have been shelled and they will sprout tails when soaked and "sprouted". You can purchase raw sunflower seeds that have NOT been shelled (shell still intact), soak them, sprout them (little tails) and then plant them on dirt and cover them up for a day or two and then uncover. They will grow into sunflower greens (baby plants).

I've made all my changes in diet (and beliefs) since my husband and I married. It hasn't been easy for us. He is still a sad eater. I don't expect him to change - though I would so dearly love it if he would. I would definately recommend that if you have the choice - it would be a great thing to find someone who shares your beliefs about food, health, animals, etc. The reason I say this -

Bump. I'd like to know, too. Right now I'm still using an old blender and I have to plead with it to blend tomatoes! But, I'm hoping to convince my husband that I NEED a 3hp blender once the old faithful one quits. Anybody know any seeds to stay away from? Life Is Good! alive!

I eat a combination of soaked and unsoaked. I usually buy 5 lbs of pumpkin seeds at a time, bring them home and soak all of them, let them sprout for a day and then dehydrate them. If nuts and seeds have been soaked, sprouted and then dehydrated, they are MORE crunchy than unsoaked. Also, I occasionally marinate some of them in: Nama Shoyu, lemon juice and cumin and then dehydrate. But, not t
