I also meant to add in my original reply to drink lots of water, especially on days that you workout. With all due respect to Fruitarian One and all the other fabulous athletes on this forum, I simply sweat too much during my time spent at 24Hr Fitness or outside on the bike. Even if you hooked me up to a watermelon IV I'd still need more fluids! Another humid day here in Texas and you shoul

I second everything mentioned above. This may get me in a bit of trouble but I also freeze a lot of my ripe fruit just for smoothies. This morning (as I do most days) I made a smoothie with frozen bananas, strawberries, and blueberries. Talk about tasty! Not to get too personal, but how is your daily intake of vegetables? To that morning smoothie I typically add baby spinach & kale (wh

Jodi, What can I say? You are quite simply an angel. Thanks so very much for an incredibly complete list! Wow, if I can't find something to my liking there's something wrong. Like Coco, I'm going to print these off and study them at a later time. You are a gem! David

I'm sorry it took me so long to come back to this great thread. While off topic, I'm trying to figure out a good raw dressing for my salads that is tart & sour. Figure I'm getting enough sweet with all the fruits I ea

Well, if you're cutting yourself with kitchen knives I have a few tips. First off buy quality knives (German cutlery rocks like Henkels & Wusthof) and keep them as sharp as a surgeon's scalpel. I know that's counterintuitive to what you might think but most folks cut themselves with dull knives. You'll be pushing harder to make your cut, dice, or slice and this opens things up for accident

Just say NO is right! I'll stand firm this weekend as I'll be mono-eating bananas. I've been thinking about converting my kids for some weeks now. Here in the states however it's such a mountain to climb. I've tried to get my wife to eat better to no avail. Sadly, her parents are "snackers" and she's taught that same mindset to our children. She's the best woman I've *ever* met

Wow, this whole thread has brought an incredible smile to my face. What a superb Friday I'm having! Great thought there Jodi. Helping people with one piece of fruit at a time... Karen, so the week starts out strong on Mondays and deteriorates to donuts on Friday? Would love to see an employee performance survey done to see how much more folks get done on Mondays! They do the requisite f

Wow, and to think I started all this! Very interesting reading, to be sure. I respect the myriad of opinions expressed to date. To quickly touch on the original thread, I like Bryan's suggestion of mono-fasting and will be attempting same this weekend. Will let you know on Monday how it goes. My best to all for a safe & happy weekend, David

Awesome Karen. Had to fight an urge to stand up and clap here at old Verizon! I loved the paragraph you quoted at the beginning of the post and am also fond of this one: "I’d like to believe that we can create a space where people feel safe to do what works for them and that we can honor the “rightness” of each person’s self-determinism and ability to know what is best for them.

Peony, It's very odd but I've been craving a ton of sweet, processed foods and back a few months ago when I started this I wouldn't have called myself a dessert or sweet eater. The only thing I can think of is about 2+ years ago I used to drink fairly heavily and there's a ton of sugar in booze, no? Regardless, I'm coping with my demons and not giving in to sugar at the moment. Have no desi

PamPam, I no longer throw away the seeds and whatnot in the center of a cantaloupe. Put it in a smoothie and get ready for a delicious treat. Now if someone tells me that cantaloupe seeds are poisonous I'm going to jump off a bridge!!!!! For now, I love them. Sapphire, I too use the smell test to pick a cantaloupe. Are they not a seasonal fruit? Believe they must be as I only see

Hi Dee! I know I've said this a million times but I live in Dallas, Texas and it seems that EVERYONE in the south has a pool. My wife and I just designed and built a wonderful home not too long ago and it's pre-wired/plumbed for a swimming pool. I didn't want to put it in at the time of construction as my kids were too small. Now that they're older and terrific swimmers I'm looking in to th

VeganLife, Is that true about eating raw sweet potatoes? I'll sometimes cut up 1/4 of one and place it in a smoothie. Hopefully it's not that poisonous! Did you read this somewhere? First apple seeds and now uncooked yams. Tell me it ain't so!!! I eat julienned zucchini almost every day in a salad after my lunchtime workout. For greens I throw in equal amounts of baby spinach and roma

Your response is very meaningful to me as I'm in my 40's and have already endured two colonoscopies. Each time they found a few non-cancerous polyps but my surgeon advised me years ago to have a glass of Metamucil or something similar every day. Not knowing then what I know now, I adhered to this routine. Obviously, since beginning a raw food eating program the Metamucil had been shunned to th

Karen, I stand corrected! I read your response too quickly on the blender thread. You're just partial to the nice green inside and not the skin. A resounding Homer J. Simpson "Dooooohhhh"!!!!! Interesting what the holistic doctor shared with you. Perhaps one day when I'm successful at eating 100% raw (years?) I can do away with smoothies. I will say this - I'll hang on to the

Right there with you M! I love the whole avocado experience as well, including the pit. I'll put it in a smoothie as I understand it's a great source of fiber. I look back on years of eating them before going raw and now wish I had all those pits back! Believe Karen even eats the skin? I might have to give that a try too. The mighty avocado indeed... Best, David

Wow, this is a first everyone - I'm actually sharing something with Karen that she doesn't know!!! Yes ma'am if your blender can handle it, the avocado pit is high in fiber and quite good for you. Doesn't add much in the way of flavor just so you know. Give it a try my dear! Emily, Glad you finally secured the elusive blender. I just sold a 1hp commercial Waring unit that sounde

So Karen are you then reasoning that your overall detox period has been diminished? I wouldn't say that I've been having cravings for specific foods like hamburgers or strawberry milk shales, rather in the evenings I want sugar badly - and not from fruit but processed foods. Can you also tell us a little about the bib kit? I know nothing at all. Your helpful links are always appreciated.

I attempted a simple water fast last weekend and due to lack of preparation and knowledge it was an uncontested disaster. Clearly, jumping out of bed on Saturday morning is not the time to tacitly decide that a weekend fast is in order. In theory fasting is quite a sound practice. For someone new to the raw lifestyle and never fasted before, I've had better days. So, if I'd like to attempt

Correct on how to select the perfect mango! I learned from someone at Whole Foods and not Kroger! You're right about our parents not teaching us how to pick fresh fruits and vegetables. My Sainted Mother who is a gourmet chef served me a myriad of foods (cooked however) so I know about them. Just didn't know how to select the best. I'm loathing the holidays already as I don't know what I

Sound advice from the ladies above, to be sure! I made the mistake of eating too many nuts this morning before I could whip up my usual smoothie and all day I've been paying the price. My noon time workout was less than stellar... I'm going to sound like my friend David Zane Mason and say that you need to listen to your body. When I first went raw I incorrectly assumed that the big red Supe

Karen, It was really odd. I don't believe I selected a ripe one so I'll have to do better next time. It has a very interesting texture, like an apple but tougher and more sandpaper like. I know I'm not painting a very nice picture here! As with folks on the SAD, where everything "tastes like chicken", I'll take the easy route and say it reminds me of an apple! Still am lovin

M, I think it's neat that you and F1 can remain hydrated by eating fruit. I'm truly amazed that's all the water a body requires. In fact I'm a bit envious! I'm a workout-aholic and cyclist here in Texas (still extremely humid and 89 degrees today...) so to say I sweat is an understatement. I'm constantly slamming water because of exercise but now I believe it's also due to my sodium inta
