Interesting reading, Coco. I stand corrected. Maybe that's why the wife is so insistent on adding apples to my smoothies... David

Dee, I must agree that I don't feel the seeds are bad for you at all and likely contain some nutritional value. I've found since going raw I enjoy throwing things in my blender such as cantaloupe seeds and whole kiwis, apples, and pears. Where I'd throw away the core to those fruits in years past, I now enjoy. I've not tried watermelon yet just because it's so darn expensive at my local sup

Bryan, Second time I believe I've read that article on detox and it gets better each time. What's killing me right now is lack of sleep as I have to rise at 5am to get kids ready for school. It certainly makes sense why I have no energy to workout or ride and obvious that rest is the order of the day. Again, thanks for the great link. David

So I suppose there's an upside to being an avid cyclist & runner living in sunny and still hot Texas? Truth be told, as I've aged I much prefer the summer months full of sunshine & warmth to the bitterly cold days we sometimes see here in the south. When I was a youth I hated the 100 degree summers in Texas. Funny how things change with time. Best to all, David

Interesting thread Karen. For me it would be: Diet - still so new to eating raw that I'm unfocused and all over the map Exercise - probably *too* much but I'm admittedly obsessive about it Sleep - too many late nights doing homework with my 5th grade daughter Sigh... That's way too many weak links. David

This journey towards becoming 100% raw is most fascinating. I've found being new to the lifestyle and jumping in with no tolerance is just a binging disaster waiting to happen. All my 40 something years I've been a huge meat, chicken, and fish eater and not that big on sweets. Want to guess what I've been craving during this period? Yep, sweets. So much so that I indulged in ice cream (Yes R

But David I note you say "transition". I was going to ask this question as just today I watched the same Karen Knowler video on YouTube making this exact mushroom dish. While there's no doubt she knows her stuff as the The Raw Food Coach, I'm dubious of all the spices & oils. Funny that I'm questioning Ms. Knowler with all my one month of going raw! And furthermore, as if I've

Ah yes Elayne, a nice glass of wine. And I also love high quality (read expensive) tequila. I should say "used to" as I've not had a drink of anything in over two years. Still have an extensive wine selection and well stocked bar for my friends and family, however. I was going to suggest that you accomplish the coffee cessation first before fasting when I originally responded to y

Well stated Karen. As I embrace this lifestyle more & more and become aware of the hundreds (if not thousands) of web sites devoted to the raw diet, I see that everyone has their own nuance or set of opinions. They *all* can't be right! Regards, David

Thanks so much for the recipes and links! Can't wait to try them. I just love meeting all the superb people on this forum. What a treat! I always get a kick out of the checkout person at my local Kroger when they hold up the kale. Very few know what it is. Such a shame for them! Thanks again and good luck with your blender, David

Elayne, I'm with Peony, you gotta hit it cold turkey and hang in there. When I stopped drinking coffee years ago I recall having a caffeine hangover for pretty much one full week. It was almost too much for me to go through but it will get better. The latest indulgence I had to kick were energy drinks (Monster, Red Bull, Full Throttle) aimed at kids of all people! These things are loaded

Kale Chick, You sound like my kind of gal as kale is my new favorite green... Here I go again sounding like an advert for Everything Kitchens! I bought the Waring Xtreme that has two speeds (Low & High) and a Pulse. The cost was $335 which includes shipping (it was free) and that's the best price I could find online. Find it here: I just noticed when I was fetching the above l

WY, I too hope you're feeling better soon as so many folks enjoy you on this forum. I'm sending such excellent thoughts/karma/goodwill/prayers your way. Hope you can feel them from still sunny & hot Texas! Never give up Wheatgrass Yogi. Hang in there my friend! Regards, David

Well, I for one am more worried about Wheatgrass Yogi than I am Juicin' John's hopefully tongue-in-cheek comments to perhaps chide our favorite wheatgrass leader into his previous robust juicing habits. WY, I'm going to respond also on a few other threads that you've started but I want you to know that we're all thinking about you and praying for your health. Don't give in, keep positive thou

Emily, I'm here for you dear! When I first started perusing the Everything Kitchens web site I too, found it overwhelming. Now, I know just where to go. I'd suggest you do one of two things. The easiest would be to call or email Everything Kitchens, tell them what Waring Xtreme you have and ask which VitaMix container will fit. Or, you can go here and order the VitaMix Container Part #7

Karen, Once again I really enjoyed your responses above and thanks for the interesting link! Read every word of the article - even the comments from other readers. I've been trying to eat raw for possibly 3 weeks now and the roller coaster ride at times is a bit trying. I had superb energy yesterday and not so spectacular today. It all comes down to what, how much, and when I'm eating.

Hi Lotus, No, I didn't delete the first account as I'm not sure how to do it! I have two very valid (meaning Verizon and not gmail or hotmail) email accounts and I used the other one to get me going here. I'm sure you'll agree that it's an invaluable source of information! Again, best of luck - David

I'm a Finance/Accounting Exec for Verizon and have no tie to anyone selling blenders, etc.... I too, didn't get a good feeling after contacting Mark at The Blind Guru. Can't really put my finger on it but I got off the phone sensing that things just "weren't right". He could be a very legitimate fellow, I just chose to give my business to an Internet company that's been around for a

I had this same problem some weeks ago and finally gave up. Created a new account and all has been fine since. I'd prefer to go by the name of "David" instead of Diamond Dave as it's been a few years since I've been called that! Hope you get your husband's account fixed, David

Your many fans, myself included have been waiting for this review! About two weeks I ago I too, ordered the same Dynamic Greens starter kit (120oz / $199). My delivery was exactly as you stated, no problems at all and I'm here in hot & humid Texas. Since I don't grow my own anything (no time with job, kids, working out, sports, cheerleading, volleyball, etc....) I compared the cost to a

Hi Dee! Kale is my new favorite vegetable! Have you tried making a mostly fruit smoothie and adding a little bit of kale? I do that and never really taste the veggies at all. I love adding baby spinach, romaine lettuce, celery, and kale (of course!). The only thing I tried that didn't work out for the better was broccoli. And I love raw broccoli! Will just be eating it by itself in fut

Mislu, You sound like a kind soul. I used to have no tolerance for insects of any kind inside my home but like with so many things, I've come full circle. My two children are especially unnerved by them and I'm trying to teach them that insects are God's creatures just like us. We live in a lovely new house on a gorgeous creek lot and have bugs everywhere! I tell my kids that they were h

I think this has turned in to a really fabulous thread and I'll get off my workout soapbox now. I totally, TOTALLY understand about feeling odd when one misses a day or two at the gym... Since I'm roughly in the same camp as Ms. Newton-John I'm going to put forth a positive outlook, continue eating quality foods (raw fruits & vegetables), and cut back - there, I said it - cut back on my w

Karen, Fresh, and of course Bryan - great replies to Ms. Newton-John's comments above and as you know, that's EXACTLY how I've been feeling. Think at this point I finally understand what you've been trying to tell me. I only ask that everyone here be patient with Ms. Newton-John as often times the inner workings of an athlete is a totally different mindset. While I don't claim to be Lance Ar

Hi Henry, So sorry to hear of your back troubles on the other thread you started. I messed up my low back a few years ago doing heavy squats at the gym and can truly sympathize. As for being an old man, I'll have none of that! From what I can see on this board, you're full of life! I often Stairmaster with an 85 year young fellow at 24 Hr Fitness who's had both of his knees replaced and he
