Fresh, Bryan, Karen, and everyone else - thanks so much for replying. Suppose I need to stop whining and hang in there. A little unpleasantness up front versus an invigorated and energetic rest of my days here on earth. I need to bite the bullet as the latter is worth the effort. Bryan, had no idea meat was a stimulant. Is that really the case? I know you're not jesting, just still shakin

I hope I'm not too late in the thread to add my experience. I've been raw for approximately three weeks and I've felt nothing but lethargic and run down. Per the suggestions of others on this site, I've greatly reduced my athletic endeavors and still feel as though I can barely walk to the mailbox and back. Understanding that my mindset still programmed to think in the awful SAD, I attribute t

As a father of two I also send out a huge congratulations!!! Excellent news. Although I have no scientific data to share I just believe intuitively that caffeine can't be "good" for the body - especially a pregnant Mom. I stopped drinking coffee (which I loved....) years ago along with soda of any kind. Recently due to my cycling efforts I began to ingest way too much Monster Ener

Hi Peony, I suppose ice cream is my kryptonite as well... sigh... As Ian suggested above, the Cuisinart machine is inexpensive and works great! I ordered mine online ages ago and took advantage of some offer that included another container for free. Keep in mind that you place these containers in the freezer overnight as that's what freezes the ice cream as it spins round & round. Don

Hi Henry, How fortuitous as I tried to PM you this morning over this very topic but the message wouldn't send as you apparently have too many missives in your PM box! I was going to ask _you_ what you thought of the frozen wheatgrass. I'm new to this lifestyle of eating raw and don't know how to assess their efficacy. I tried a shot of wheatgrass a few weeks back at a local Jamba Juice an

I'm on week three going raw and can't brag about loosing that much weight! Way to go Darren although as Pam stated, quite a bit is likely water. Still, my hat's off to you. I had a _horrible_ weekend with little energy again and some associated depression. I about lost it internally when I threw away half of a cheeseburger that I lovingly made for my son. The Old David would have eaten tha

Frumpy, I know I'm adding little value to your question above, but I too find myself cooking poison for my wife and children while I'm looked upon as the "Crazy Dad with the Crazy Diet". True story if you'll indulge me: My oldest child (daughter) was chiding me about my green smoothie. Said it looked horrible and likely tasted same. Then said it wasn't food and that my diet is

Can you share some more particulars with us? What sort of blender and carafe are you using? How much water and fruit are you mixing? Is all your fruit room temperature or is some frozen? And sort of a "duh" thing to ask - how long are you running the blender when making a smoothie? I contributed to another post on the blender forum relative to my new purchase, a Waring Xtreme 3.5

Hi Wheatgrass Yogi! You're both a legend and inspiration to this newbie around these parts. Thanks so much for all your posts & responses to date. I'm tickled that I get to contribute here. First off, took delivery of wheatgrass this past week from Dynamic Greens. Very nice family operated company. I'm having two of the frozen squares every morning when I wakeup. Not sure where you

Ok JoAnn and All, Just received my latest shipment from Everything Kitchens which included the VitaMix container, tamper, and VitaMix cleaning brush. I've only made two smoothies to date but I simply love the VitaMix carafe! I'm sure it's a self fulfilling prophecy but in my mind the VitaMix container does NOT seem to introduce as much air as the stock Waring unit. It also appears to do a b

Lee, I may be a new person to eating raw and this forum but I believe 100% in what you said above. Both posts make incredible sense. All of us are NOT defined as "widgets" that can be neatly placed in the same size box! Eloquently stated, sir. Of special note: "I'm doing the best I can, taking in a fair amount of information, listening, learning, discerning"... He

These are all such excellent suggestions for a newbie such as myself. Clarification please to you wiser members on making any kind of smoothie and then enjoying it later on. I've read on the Blind Guru site how fast things begin to oxidize and turn once put in a blender. He sells some sort of pump that removes much of the air, thereby (supposedly) keeping the smoothie more fresh and nutrient

Goodness, such great responses from everyone! As I mentioned on another thread, I'm still learning and will continue to do so the more I study this lifestyle. I really appreciate the time everyone has taken to provide their thoughts. Regards, David

Well, all I can say is that I continue to be a sponge and learn from everything I read on this forum. Clearly my learning curve will be measured in years at the very least. Great responses from Bryan, Nora, and everyone else. I have recently checked out Mr. Brazier's web site and found it to be very informative. Even before submitting my comments above I knew there were successful endurance

I hope Bryan won't delete this post as I feel it may bring a salient point or two to this discussion. Most folks have been addressing the question of "how are you getting your protein" yet with the exception of JadedShade (Phil) and a few others, the fact that Ms. Newton-John is an athlete and new to the raw lifestyle seems to have been forgotten. I too, am new to the superior eat

Hi all, another new member to the forum as well as the eating raw lifestyle (*not* diet!). Had a question about some of the staples that I'm putting in each smoothie that I make. I did do a search beforehand on both "flaxseed oil" and "flax seeds" and nothing of relevance pulled up (this kind of surprised me). I've read over the years that flaxseed oil is a good thing. I

I've been enjoying green smoothies ever since I've begun eating raw which admittedly isn't that long. I first tried Victoria's recipe for a pear/parsley smoothie and it was excellent! Since then I've tired both kale & spinach along with some fresh fruit to make the most delicious smoothies. Again, I've not been on this "eating for life" program (NOT diet) all that long but I beli

Hi JoAnn, New member here to both this forum as well as eating raw. I noticed this thread and your earlier post asking for opinions on the Waring X-Treme vs. the Vitamix. I too, just bought a new 3.5hp Waring X-Treme and truly love it. Had before that (still do - it's about to go up on Ebay) a Waring Commercial blender that's 1hp and the difference is night and day! From the extra power to
