Recently there have been a number of references on the forum to published research articles supporting specific dietary and nutritional views. Sometimes it's fairly easy to understand what the author of the article is attempting to convey, while other times it may seem that only a rocket scientist could relate to what is stated. Yet still in a sense, we are all researchers, since we are learnin

Palex: I've never tried raw garbanzos that were only soaked so I can't give feedback on that. However I have used sprouted garbanzos and had pretty good results when making hummus. As far as purchasing them, your health food store may carry them and if they don't, it's likely that they'd know someone in their network of friends that sell it or could get it for you.

I've been trying to keep out of the "intellectual argument" melee along the line of thought in this thread and the others that have been popping up the past few months on the forum, as I feel that there are more than enough people sharing their opinions in favor of one side or the other despite the fact that these may or may not reflect my own perspective. However...I guess it's time t

I have made the raw apple pie and enjoyed it. When I see recipes I like I print them and add them to my collection. Most of them came from this forum. The good thing about raw recipes is that you can be spontaneous and modify them as you go along and they still turn out good, just with a different twist. Here are other pie variations people have shared: For the crust: sunflower seeds, ra

Hi Taylor: I made a broccoli concoction this evening and seeing you recent posts on the broccoli soup I decided to pass this one along in case you'd want other broccoli variations. Here it is: I used leftovers from a dip (tahini, cashew, ground flax seeds and dates) originally made to go along with dehydrated plaintains. Then I added the broccoli, yellow bell pepper, curry powder and

This reminds me of a class I took that included swabbing different places to see what types of bacteria would grow in the cultures. Interestingly, the restrooms (toilet seats, etc) had the least amount, while our skins and other areas that one would not think as harboring germs had the most growth. That being said, my take on it is that there is a need for balance. Yes, it is important to be

I used to feel on the spot at first when teased, but now when I get the "what's that" question by people who tend to be cynical, I'm proactive and come up with some of the more sarcastic comments used by others about my drink, i.e. "I know it looks like sewer water, but guess what, it's not and furthermore it's full of the nutrients from vegetables that your body needs."

Even if your fruit/veggie choices are limited, it may be helpful to vary how you prepare them. For instance with an apple, you could eat it as is or add a little water and spices and make apple sauce in a food processor or a blender; you could blend the apple with other fruits and make a smoothie; another idea is to crush nuts with dates, honey or agave, make a base and fill it with apple sauce.

Rainbow: When I began to implement food combining principles, almost right away the afternoon sleepiness that I'd usually get disappeared. What I believe happened is that less energy and effort was put into trying to digest what I was eating and that extra energy was enough to keep me awake. Until you are able to take off time for a fast or rest, you may want to look into this.

Overcoming bread and other grain addictions has been a major challenge for many people as previous posts in this and other forums can attest to. The good news is that it can be overcome, with some people in a short time, while for others it may take more effort. There is information out there in books and online with theories and viewpoints on the reason for this.

It is possible that it could be detox. In the event that there are no other factors influencing your headache, what has happened to many of us is that toxic stuff that should never be hanging around in the first place is stirred up before being eliminated, as the body is provided with extra energy from nourishing foods. During that time, there may be headaches or other minor discomforts.

Could there be emotional issues going on at present or that you are detoxing from that happened in your past? Sometimes when improving the quality of dietary nutrients it gives the body extra energy to deal with not only current needs but to address old issues. If there's a lot of repairing to be done--physical or emotional--your body may compel you to rest a lot more than usual. This m

I have also. It happened almost out of the blue and lasted only a couple of days. The interesting thing is that it was identical to a condition I experienced years ago and I believe my body was experiencing a 'retracing' as it was likely stored in my cell's memory and just suppressed instead of resolved. Although it was uncomfortable, it went away as quickly as it came.

Longtimeraw: My post was not specifically targeting followers of NH principles. Rather, it was aimed at the apparent negative tone some of the postings were taking on, with a tendency towards putting down others because one approach to raw/uncooked eating did not match the other's -- almost like a holier than thou or rather a rawer than thou attitude. There is obviously no one absolute 'ri
