I thought bananas and/or avocado. Some people have allergies to mango. My brother does not get along well with them. He puffs out and is miserable. Mangoes are related to poison ivy. Congrats sgc on your coming little one! We wrote our birth instructions yesterday. It did include a refusal to vaccinate.

I used to get a spirulina and blueberry smoothie at this vegan restaurant. It didn't taste bad at all. The restaurant has unfortunately closed down, as has the only raw place near me. Kind of a bummer that the only places that I seem to be able to eat any more as an outing with friends and family is steakhouses because of the salad bars.

Me and my partner have wanted to go to Thailand for quite some time. Maybe in another year or two it will be realized. It sounds like a great adventure. Please do send photos if you are able!

It's all organic in Sicily! I bought a huge head of romaine for a US dollar. I mean it was immense. When I asked my cousin about chemicals he laughed and said "Who would want to put chemicals on food?" He grew his own almonds, apples, walnuts, plums, oranges, pears, and peaches. That's just the trees and not the regular garden. I was eating truly fresh and raw almonds from the tree.

This is a huge Sicilian market place. This is just one small part of it. My relatives couldn't understand why we wanted to hang out at a market. All fresh from the country!

A good knife is like a good friend ... even a pocket knife. I backpacked Europe twice. The first time was when you could still bring a knife on board. My Swiss Army knife was used constantly for fruit and veg. I'd hit a market place in the A.M. and would eat all day from the fresh produce (and a small quantity of bread). Nothing like eating fresh produce from the country. The second time was

I think that I am getting brave enough to give durian a second shot. I just wish I lived near someone who knew what they were supposed to be like so I know that I am eating a good one.

I used to be a vet tech years before becoming a nurse. If they won't give a 10 lb dog more than a couple of vaccinations in one shot then why would they do it to babies. I may try and hold off on the vaccinations for the first two years. The number of vaccines suggested greatly reduces after that. At work, people always seem to pressure me about vaccines. They know that I am more alternative in m

I will be a first-time Papa in a week or two and I had a couple of questions for those who have already navigated these waters. 1. What raw foods did you introduce to you little ones initially? 2. Suggested reading materials on the topic? 3. Did you vaccinate? 4. If so, do you regret having had your little one vaccinated? I have done some research on my own but wanted to supplamen

I had fresh figs when I was on my honeymoon in Sicily a couple of years ago. Those were some sick figs. They grew everywhere. Even out of cracks in walls. Had some good cactus fruit too. I'll be eati

When I was younger, as in 10 or 11, I started to help my mother with a lot of food prep. Unfortunately this included meat. My Mama, she's from Sicily, didn't have a lot growing up. It makes it hard for her to get rid of anything that may have some use yet. Again, unfortunately, this included knives. I had to use knives with broken handles, missing points, etc. She did, fortunately, have a steel.

coconut is a laxative. Bananas are used to stop diarrhea. Don't think it has anything to do with the amount of potassium or magnesium.

Wusthoff basic butcher block set and a Henckel cleaver bought specifically for coconuts. I hate cheap, blunt knives. I think from years of struggling with knives at my folks place. Besides bicycles it's my favorite gift to give.

I don't think that's the point of the thread. No more than a hiking website didicated to speaking of the difficulties traversing parts of the Apalachian trail would be saying to not do it because it is difficult.

My guess would be that it's because they are a hydrophilic seed. They love moisture and gel it up. I think if they weren't soaked a little they would probably absorb water from you and be dehydrating. I love them and throw them in my smoothies. Sometimes I put about 1/3 of a cup in a mason jar with 3 cups if distilled H2O and let them gel in the fridge. I eat the out of the jar or use the tha

Look at mainstream media/commercials. Everything is meat/BBQ, alcohol and big trucks. There is so much media reinforced stereotypes that set people up for disease. When I last ate meat, something like 11 or 12 years ago, I was trying to eat lean meat, no fatty dressings, etc. I was teased regularly even for that. Kind of funny that I was made fun of for eating vegetable soup for breakfast instead

I think that there are gender stereotypes that influence things/choices. I think that women being more proactive is a bit of that coming into play as well. I am first generation American and my family makes issues over the "manliness" of my diet. I am also a nurse and have a lotof negative feed back from co-workers and even patients. Lots of people don't think that a vegetarian, let alo

I have a lot of people commment continually about what I eat. There is always the "what can you eat?" To which I usually reply that I CAN eat anything I choose. The normal reply is "Without meat and dairy, there isn't much left." Then I feel bad for them and start talking about all the different kinds of fruit and vegetables. Then they usually say something about all the carbo

I hear you on the peaches! I recently bought a bunch of organic peaches from Costco of all places. They were so good that I had four before I got home. The front of my shirt was covered in juice and the steering wheel was sticky but all worth it! They haven't gotten any in again which makes me sad but the memories are good!

I was taking a quart mason jar filled with green smoothie to work everyday. people still tease me for having "relish" for breakfast. I only work 10-15 minutes from my house depending on traffic. I would drink it as soon as I got there or start while on my way. I can't see bringing my vitamix to work or my juicer. Both are too cumbersome and rather expensive.

Is there a difference between the organic beans and seeds that I buy in the bulk bins at whole foods and the ones that I would buy from a sprout supplier? I mean other than the price. If so, does anyone have suggestions regarding a reputable supplier? I love sunflower sprouts, does anyone sprout these? I tried posting this on the sprouting forum but I don 't think many people go there that oft
