I have a distiller and used it for a while. I found it cumbersome, and gave up using it regularly. It had a foul smell and taste if left in a closed container. If left in an open container the funk seemed to evaporate away. Also, I found that the quality of the end product was greater and much less crap was left behind if I started with filtered water.

I think you are doing the right thing and you should start feeling better soon. In my experience, the relationship thing is the most difficult. I'm starting to learn that I need to be able to take care of myself and stick to healthy habits regardless of my relationship status. It does seem easier to stick to a healthy routine when I am single, but it doesn't help me or my partner to view our

Thanks Tamukha! I never knew there were varieties of quinoa. I'm eager to try them now. I've tried a lot of sprouting over the years with varying success. Sadly, I found that sprouted wheat and barley (high gluten) were my high favorites. I like the taste of most nuts also. Most seeds are neutral to me, and I'm plain grossed out by sprouted legumes. The seeds (including pseudograins) are probabl

Thanks paul and coco, I did used to enjoy sprouting lundberg wehani rice. I remember it tasted good, but was very tough and required some heat to sprout.

What do raw vegans think are some good areas to reside in? I'm in the northeast US. I think it's expensive, loud, polluted, crowded, cold, and mostly closed-minded. I'd like to live somewhere warmer, where year round I could grow my own food, ride a bicycle everywhere, sleep outside, and otherwise live on the cheap and eco-friendly. I used to think I wanted to move farther north, to a sparce

It seems to me that the volume of produce (fruit and greens) required on an 811 diet is astronomical compared to any SAD or even cooked vegan diet, or even a high fat raw vegan diet. I then wonder, would a high fruit and green diet still be beneficial to one's health if only conventional produce were consumed? Lettuce, spinach, and kale, are some of the most highly contaminated produce items, alo

Thank you, I do have a big bag of buckwheat to sprout. I'll give that a try first. And I enjoyed scarfing down some "quinoa pasta" the other day, though the first ingredient was actually corn, and it didn't say "no gmo".

I'm going through a gradual process of removing addictive and harmful substances from my diet in an effort to transition to raw. I've been off caffeine and animal products for a few weeks and feel a bit better. I've just recently become aware of the existence and effects of opioids in gluten, so I cut gluten a few days ago and I am hopeful that will make a difference for me. I'll say that my psyc

I used to be seriously addicted to coffee, to the point where I would spend the day vomiting if I attempted to cut it out cold turkey. Eventually I managed to give it up for good, but I would still have decaf every once in a while. That turned out to be problematic, because I would occasionally be served a regular coffee when I ordered decaf, and would feel sick the next day. So, the next step wa

As I read the first post I thought it would not be fair for you to go through with your end of the bargain as she was unlikely to follow through with hers. I'm sad for you that you compromised your principles and health (though only temporarily), for another person who chose not to reciprocate the honesty and caring which you demonstrated towards her. You care so much about her well being that yo

Thanks for the helpful suggestions guys. Harley I'm going to try the date water thing. I'd like to get myself some fit and healthy chicks. madinah, I thought fruit was quite nutritious, but maybe that's not enough variety? You say the fruit is unripe even when it sits out for weeks? That's a shame. What would be a more nutritious base? WorkoutMan, thanks, I figure I'll get used to it ev

I enjoyed some hearty laughter, and that's good medicine! I don't know much about those guys or what they may or may not deserve, but the jabs in the video seemed more lighthearted and funny than negative. If it makes you laugh then I don't think you can call it negativity. Laughter is a positive thing! I want to see the DR parody... is it a cartoon as well? I love those cartoons!

I use a 20 dollar shower filter that I bought at home depot. The replacement cartridge is 10 dollars and is supposed to last 6 months. It claims to filter about 75% of chlorine. I installed an under sink filter (walmart) for my kitchen faucet. It cost about 25 dollars and I think the replacement is 10 or 15 and lasts for 6 months. I installed it myself with basic tools. It was very easy and ca

Thanks for the informative replies. I'm eating the thawed watermelon now. It sat in my car (below freezing) overnight, then sat at room temperature for 4 days. It's not bad, but it tastes more bland and mushy than the watermelon which was never frozen.

Months ago I stumbled upon some of DR's videos on this forum. They have motivated me to try a more fruit-based approach to my diet, and it seems to have helped. Most of the other stuff in this thread is silly.

What are the consequences of freezing raw fruit and vegetables? Does it lose any nutritional value? I left whole watermelon in my car overnight below freezing temperature. If I put it back in room temperature for a few days will it continue to ripen, or simply rot?

For items like whole watermelons or heads of lettuce? Do they lose any nutritional value if left at room temperature for several days? What about watermelon that is cut up? I assume that would deteriorate faster.

Will running a blender at the lowest speed prevent the contents from being cooked?

Thanks suncloud! That's a good idea. I used to relish this sprouted grain mix: Maybe I'll order some to have on hand, and then I'll have the option to go to it before cooked grains. That would be good! I'll give the raw wheat germ a taste as well. Should I look for that online?

Happy to report that this morning (three weeks since my bad reaction), I ate more than one whole pineapple and had no adverse reaction. The pineapples today were VERY ripe; brown/yellow color, soft, covered in fruit flies. Now, I bought these pineapples last week, and they were very green, hard and clearly unripe. They just sat on my kitchen counter all week and apparently they did ripen. What
