coco-- I understand. I just hear from others who are new to raw foods and talk about all these wonderful changes they are experiencing practically overnight. I do find it a bit hard to motivate myself to keep going when I honestly don't see much overall improvement. Bryan-- What fruits & veggies should I avoid on a daily basis? I don't eat avacodas usually but I eat several bananas a day.

Bryan, Those are some great suggestions. I honestly never pay much attention to fat. I am slightly underweight, so I always felt as if it couldn't hurt to eat more fats. I actually just recently purchased some raw coconut oil.. I guess this was not a smart idea?... I really do enjoy the almond milk.. (and banana milk really sounds good and I plan to try it) but I can definitly get rid of th

I made my first real raw dessert. It was for a pecan pie. So delicious.. my friends and family (who are not raw) thought it was fabulous as well.

I am a little disappointed. I felt by going mostly raw I would see dramatic improvements in my health and energy. When I started about six weeks ago on a 75-100% a day raw diet.. I didn't notice any significant changes except for freqeunt bowel movements (which I was quite happy about!). But now, I no longer have daily bowel movements...without having made any major changes to my diet. I got very

I really like Brigette Mars's book "rawsome!". It is really simple for beginners. And there is another one that is also along the same lines called "Living in the Raw".

There are probably so many different factors to consider in reference to cancer. I certainly feel like diet is a HUGE factor. And I do believe that anyone who eats a healthy diet with plenty of natural foods is much more protected than someone who does not. But what about where you live?.. somewhere like NYC with a very high cancer rate is very polluted. What about eating organic? Not everyone fe

While eating a SAD diet I had a lot of problems with candida. I was told to reduce my fruit intake as well as sugars an refined breads. It did seem to help. Since going vegetarian (and eating healthier overall) my candida has not returned. However, since leaning towards more raw foods lately I find myself eating tons of fruits, something I had avoided after my doctor warned me of eating too much

bibboraw -- I also had similiar symptoms making the transition to a mostly raw diet. Rather than feelier happier, lighter an more clear-lighted (as most people speak of) I felt lethargic, had headaches that lasted everyday, stomach aches and felt so weak an drained that I ended up going to sleep most nights at around 9:30pm.. which is not like me at all! I was not even 100% raw.. probably

My boyfriend also lived in a Krishna temple for some time. Of course, vegetarianism is really an essential part of their practice. And a lot of hare krishnas are also vegans. My boyfriend said that one of the gurus used to be very into "sprouting" and his room was filled with all sorts of seeds and plants. My boyfriend's sister is a devotee and when he mentioned raw foods to her recentl

I never hear anything about soy beans. Are soy beans not considered an optimal raw food?

Mike and Lori, I think you're off to a great start. People don't usually become vegetarian overnight. You can still get a lot of great benefits out of eating healthier. I recommend looking into the meditteranean diet which is comprised of lean meats, nuts, good oils and fruits an vegetables. Be more aware of trying to eat raw as much as possible.. you can make a pasta and throw in some raw

Rob, Are we able to test any of these filters to make sure they actually work? I have a water filter on my refrigerator but I don't really trust it to give me pure water.

I was wondering what people do for their water (for drinking and rinsing)? I try to use bottled water as much as possible.. but even the bottled water I buy comes in plastic containers. I have not yet seen any water sold in glass bottles (like I wish they would come). I don't know how I feel about "water purifiers"... Please tell me what you all do.

I have really fallen in love with almond milk. I peel my almonds which is a long tedious process... it takes me about an hour to peel about 2 cups! And I ususally finish the milk up in two days ( I like it strong!). I was wondering if everyone does this? Is there an easier way? I had heard peeling allowed for a much better flavor. I also notice that when I peel my almonds.. I find that there

check out live-live.com I was in their store in New York recently and was given a free sample of their organic and raw facial moisturizers. I was pretty impressed! They do contain honey though if you're a vegan.

I'm new to this diet also (although I have been vegan for sometime now.. the uncooked thing is new to me). If you still eat meat, that should probably be the first thing to go..followed by dairy, etc. Brigette Mars's book Rawsome was really inspirtational to me. She suggests eating soom raw food with every meal then eating raw food for an entire meal (i.e. fruit for breakfast, large salad for lun

I have only recently discovered the benefits of raw foods... and almost overnight have become almost entirely raw. I have been eating raw for about 2 weeks now. I haven't noticed any dramatic changes in my health except that I have been having more frequent bowel movements. When eating processed foods I would only have a bowel movement once a week. After becoming a vegetarian and leading a more h

YES-- from a buddhist perspective actually! Although buddhists don't think of it as "killing vegetables"...many beings are being killed in the process. Microscopic bugs living on the plants are being killed...bugs are killed in farming.. and in Tibetan Buddhism bugs are sentient beings and should not be killed. Killing things are unavoidable for human beings. Breathing, walking, etc.

I have been a vegetarian for some time now.. and recently have leaned more to the vegan-side. I still did not feel like my diet was completely healthy and it was only until I started reading about raw dieting that I realized this was excatly what I had been missing. I will give the raw thing a try for a while. I am not a fad dieter.. but if I have a hard time churning out a decent recipe, it may
