No Paul - I said my oven went down to 50c. In my original post I said that I had long wished for a dehydrator - which is why I am trying to get information about them now.

Golly - I have never heard of 'white noise'. We sleep in complete silence - no cars, no tick tocks, no nothing - so i find any noise extremely intrusive at night but it wouldn't be a problem for me as the house is big enough to get away from it - but when we live on a narrow boat? - guess I can put it up the other end then

I've just had a quick look at my oven and the lowest setting is 50c which translates into 122F. I would never even try to use the oven for this purpose though - i couldn't bear to have it turned on for so long doing so little really for quite a lot of energy consumption. I will have this conversation with my friend... Tam - you mention a medium loud whir - which sounds like it could be quit

A friend of mine was given an excaliber dehydrator for christmas by her boyfriend. I asked her the other day how she was getting on with it as I have long wished for one. She said that quite frankly it doesn't do anything that you can't do in your oven on the lowest setting but that also it makes quite a noise that really disturbs her. Her house is quite small and fairly open plan so she does

I 'want' to believe in homeopathy too but it has never made any difference to me when I've used it. Regarding price - it's about the same price here to visit a homeopath as it is to see any other alternative practitioner.

Hi Make sure you eat enough calories and get the whole range of nutrients - it's very easy to not eat enough or try to live on bananas and then say - oh it's detox when you - amazingly!!!! - don't feel very well. As you have so much mucus etc I wonder if you have completely given up dairy - apologies if you are vegan but it just came into my mind as I read your post. Good luck with it all

Just to balance things out a bit here - i live at the other end of the country (UK) and am completely surrounded with people that strive to eat healthily. Ok - so most of them eat meat and dairy but try to find organic produce. Also they all try to grow their own vegetables and buy fairtrade and organic merchandise. I think there are pockets of wonderfulness in the UK - I'm sure there are i

absolutely rab. I did a short course on forest gardening with Martin Crawford. It's well worth trying this kind of gardening with what ever space you have.

I am a practitioner of swedish massage and from what I am reading here it would seem that dry brushing is assisting lymph drainage. Brushing towards the heart is also brushing towards the lymph nodes which is what you want. Lymph drainage massage uses incredibly light pressure and tiny movements to assist the lymph to move. An important thing is not to stop before a joint - ie if you are bru

ha ha Tam. I made up Granney's knickers but for all I know it could be a name. Eggs and Bacon is a real name and so is vetch - but not the tufted bit. There are masses of different vetches and I have no idea if you can eat them (she hastily adds) e.g.

Yes Coco - daylillies is only their common name, they aren't really a lily. Always go for the latin name as it is universal in all languages and there can be no mistake - the name here is Hemerocallis. You know one person may call a plant 'Granney's knickers', some one else may call it 'Eggs and Bacon', someone else may call it 'tufted vetch' and who knows what it is. Vinny - weed walks

I put this link up just to illustrate how something that grows so easily all over the garden is considered a real nuisance by some gardeners but is really a super little addition to the salad bowl. I eat it leaves and flowers and all. But it's ridiculous to say that you need to use a chemical weedkiller to control it because it is very shallow rooting and can be pulled up without the ne

Hairy bittercress is up all over the garden - also dandelion greens, young beechleaves (very soon I hope). Good King Henry is in the hedgerows. I too am excited about foraging this summer.

Ah I wondered about the amount at 20mg - if it was going to be enough. My current supplement is 200mg three times a day. I take it for a few months - get my iron levels up to a level where I can function, stop taking the pills and they plummet again. Do you think that if I get my iron levels up with the ferrous sulphate I will be able to hold them at that level with the garden of life pills?

powerlifer the link is there on my post Coco - the amount of iron is much lower than in my current supplement but maybe because these are raw and I will absorb them better - which I think is the problem at the moment. Incidently I had low iron issues when I wasn't vegan ( although 15yrs ago when I had been100% vegan for 4 years my iron levels where superb - I know that because the drs flap

I know some people on this forum have iron issues so I'd like your opinion please. The daily dose is quite low - much lower than the prescribed iron that I take at the moment - ferrous sulphate 200mg three times a day. I always forget to take these and really don't like having to take them all the time. I wonder if these Garden of Life iron supplements would be any good. Why do they p

Has anyone read Jennifer Cornbleet's Raw food made easy? Just looking for some recipe inspiration - don't need any info as I have the book which Paul mentioned - Becoming Raw. This is a fab book and I would recomend this to people too.

The only time I might be 100% raw is in high summer when I have an abundance of leaves in the garden and it is hot - by definition that ain't often in the UK !!! I don't think you have to be 100% raw or even near it to be wonderfully healthy. I am vegan - but that's no longer a choice for me - i just am - it's who i am. I could no more change that than i could fly. I strive to eat as health

I wonder what this gorgeously scrummy plant has in it. Having never really eaten it that much I now can't get enough of it. Raw in salads and in my green juices - just yummy. I love the aniseed flavour and the vegetable itself is so good looking too.

You say you've been vegan for 10 years but I seriously doubt any of those cakes that you have are vegan - are they? Why not try being completely vegan - check every label. This at least will give you a very clear cut off point. I'm not sure that too much fruit is a great idea if you are trying to bring diabetes under control but it's not really my area. But the book to get is Eat to Live

But WHY would they do that - I don't understand. I am convinced that would not happen in the UK unless it was causing a real problem in some way. I'm so sorry to hear about this.

116. Cinnamon
Duke posted a you tube link to a wonderful old guy of 109. He credited his healthy old age to 5 foods - honey, garlic, chocolate, cinnamon (yikes I've forgotten the fifth already - not much hope for me!!! ) Anyway - my question is - what does cinnamon do for you, who eats it and how? Is it a bark, does anyone here grow it and harvest their own? I will do my own research but keen to kno

hmm - yes it does seem to be a hot topic now doesn't it. I think it is because there are some fairly 'loud' characters discussing it currently. I have the 80/10/10 book and found it very inspiring but it's not a diet I can follow here in the UK - I simply cannot get enough of the fresh organic fruit that is required. I think if I lived in a more suitable climate I would give it a go. I

Panchito - that's not really an argument is it? - although I understand the point you are trying to make. Actually - we are trying to be as light on the earth as possible and one day we will be off the grid - but that's for another discussion Coco - yes I see that you have a point there - better than drugs and surgery but what about natural herbs etc to get the bowel going. Wouldn't you su
