Tam - i think it is easier here actually. It really depends where you are in the country - there are lovely little pockets of alternative people - but that is still what they are viewed as - alternative. To be fair some GP's will suggest homeopathy, osteopathy, acupuncture - some even offer it but they are far and few between. There is a town not too far away called Totnes where everyother

I'm not sure if cacao is all that good for me - but they are my little treat that keeps me on the straight and narrow - if you get my drift!!! They stop me hanging out for dark vegan chocolate that isn't raw and is full of sugar. The bar I had last week only had 14%cacao so not too bad - I have asked them for a nutritional breakdown and they are currently having the bars tested at the Duchy c

ha ha Powerlifer - I hear you and will remind myself of the same thing!! Actually talking to most people about this subject is a frustrating business. I work in a not for profit wholefood cafe and shop and even people in there who you would think know better can be deaf to your words, incredulous, you name it. I tend to keep stum unless I think someone is genuinly interested. When I do b

Suncloud I am so sorry to see you go - I have ALWAYS valued your contributions and your experience so much. As a true vegan and a real promoter of animal welfare you will be very much missed. I find it increasingly hard to communicate with people who are vegan only for their own health and welfare of animals is a lucky byproduct which doesn't worry them one way or the other.

Powerlifer - I find the foam roller useful but not a cure all. like you say massage is required all around the attachment areas both in the knee and the hip. It's not really possible to stretch the ITB and only a tiny part of the muscles attaching it. I think the only answer really is improving the biomechanics, running style etc. I have a very tight illiacus and psoas and they are nearly i

Ha - it was ITB that stopped me in my tracks in May. a quote from Jonno 'The irony is that this 'new' technique is millions of years old and we have only been struggling along as injury prone heel strikers since Nike introduced the first cushioned shoes 40 years ago...'

I love running powerlifer - although after my last 50 mile event I had to stop for 3 months as i had badly exacerbated a niggling injury. I am a steady long distance runner - no sprints for me thank you very much!!! I did the Lochness Marathon on 2008 very much high raw - it was good. My diet and my running are not where I want them to be right now hence the excitement about finding a barefo

How delighted am I. I sometimes think that I am so cut off from the rest of the world tucked away in south west England. Imagine my delight when I find a barefoot running coach in the next county AND he advocates a raw lifestyle - that's as rare as hen's teeth atround here. I've contacted him - can't wait to hear back

Suncloud - you are too nice - I cannot like the man who does this - I don't care how in love with his wife he is or how wonderful the new baby is. It's disgusting, disgraceful and he can never be taken seriously. I shall certainly write this evening. I cannot seperate the person from their actions - they are the same thing in my opinion.

That's an interesting comment Coco - I am by no means a die hard vegan but I was staunchly vegan for 4 years before my last pregnancy, all through my pregnancy and for 3 years afterwards. My son was born half an ounce under 9lbs and was vegan for the first 3 years of his life. He is now nearly 15yrs old - has been mainly vegan all his life and has the most beautiful set of gnashers you could ho

Geo - I appreciate your point and think it's great that you can be like that. I'm afraid that if Durianrider came into a room that I was in I would have to leave immediately - he winds me up more than anyone I have ever met. I'm afraid that just because people are vegan does not mean that you will like them or get on with them. And that's fine - you don't have to get on with everybody. Some of

This is a lovely conversation. I am going to research spring water here in south West England but I'm wondering if all spring water can make the journey to the surface of the earth without being contaminated. We don't have any untouched mountains here for it to gush from - it must come up through fields or some place where man has been with his chemicals etc etc. Marsh what is your view on t

cherimoya - I didn't mean to be rude - sorry if it came across that way. I think The stOrm IS durianrider. I'm really sorry if some raw food vegans are annoying you it must be very irritating but please believe us when we say that some of us would never do so - 'live and let live is my motto' Actually - tell us who the trolls are - you may find that we (the rest of us) wouldn't be very

cherimoya - tone it down a bit. You think you know what you're talking about but you don't. DR seriously pisses off loads of us - I personally cannot stand his rants, his posts or his extremely tedious links. I have no idea why the moderators haven't banned him long ago - I s'pose he's raw and he's vegan and that's enough but he's a damned pest in my opinion. SO DON'T lump us all in togeth

I think it's to do with the type of iron rather than too much. I take iron supplements and am not happy about it but my iron levels plummet when I do not. No amount of iron rich foods do it I'm afraid. I get my iron levels tested regularly and am never, ever too high in iron - quite the reverse. But I have heard that iron supplements are very bad for you and I would like to know why.
