This is my favorite smoothie! It's such a treat. The lime (much more than lemon) somehow makes the avocado seem less fatty and heavy to me. Avocado Lime Smoothie - 1 California avocado - 1 lime, juiced - 3 medjool dates - 2 cups water Peel avocado and remove pit. Add to blender along with lime juice, pitted medjool dates, and water. Blend on medium speed until smooth. Serve

I started out trying Curator's recipe for South American Slaw, but had so many other goodies in the house, I couldn't resist adding more. This is just a basic coleslaw recipe. My mayonnaise was raw, but not vegan, so I omitted the recipe for it. There are many recipes for raw vegannaise out there if you're interested. Coleslaw -1/8 head medium red cabbage -1/8 head medium green or white cabbage -1 large carrot -1 tbsp. dill, finely chopped -1 lemon -1 1/2 tbsp. mayonnaise -2 pinches of salt -pinch of black pepper

Oops, sorry, Nubster. I missed your post. The tomato mango soup is actually pretty flavorful. It's just more like a pudding than a soup. Experimenting with food can be quite fun. If you get a good combo, I'd love to know.

Tasty salad. Not nearly as spicy as I thought it might be. Asian Style Mango Salad -4 green mangos -small handful cilantro -1/2 small jicama -1 lime -1 tsp. red pepper flakes -1 pinch salt -1 pinch black pepper (optional) Peel and slice mangos into a medium size bowl. Try to make the pieces as evenly sized as possible. Coarsely chop cilantro and add to bowl. Peel and cut ji

Thanks, Swayze. The orange carrot combo is as tasty as it is colorful. I'm sorry the soup was too watery for you, Punkrotten. I can imagine that might be so. I don't like puddings and custards, so I tend to water things down a bit more than may appeal to some people. I seem to have a working transfer cable again. So, here we go...

Inception spoilers below: Lightform, I wasn't buying the dream machine premise either. It made what could have been a smart movie dull. Inception was a giant metaphor for film making as a dream, a shared 'suspension of reality' that we all share. Because the entire movie was a dream we're supposed to accept the flimsy dream apparatus/opiate delivery system without question the way extre

That sounds odd to me since I've always read that medieval girls were often married when they reached puberty and it was common to marry at 13 or 15, and to have given birth around 16.

Oh, and for a suggestion of what to do with basil. It tastes great fresh with any kind of tomato salad. I like it on finely chopped on sliced tomatoes and mixed with a bit of vinegar. Instead of freezing it next time, you might try drying it with a dehydrator or in the oven. You can crumble it and sprinkle it in salads.

No, the shells open when ripe. Cultivars have been selected for that trait. QuoteWhen the fruit ripens, the shell changes from green to an autumnal yellow/red and abruptly splits part way open (see photo). This is known as dehiscence, and happens with an audible pop. The splitting open is a trait that has been selected by humans[7]. Commercial cultivars vary in how consistently they split

The red fecal matter happens to everyone and is insignificant because that stuff goes in the mouth and out the other end without entering the bloodsteam. The urine is matter filtered by the kidneys from the bloodstream and so indicates that the betaine has entered the body and has access to all the sites in your body where cancer may be. It's interesting that you said yes, because I've read

Ick. That sounds disgusting. I find less objection with humanely raised organic meats than with the ultra-engineered imitation food product. But, then I'm not vegan.

Bananawho, I don't have a current source because I haven't eaten pistachios in years, but there are raw pistachios. I've had them. They are not too hard to find. Here's one source: . I've never used this company, so I can't recommend them, but anyway raw pistachios in the shell do exist.

Okay. I'm going to get really personal and a little nasty, so please ignore my question if this offends. But, do those who have bad reactions to beets get red urine from consuming beets? I'm curious because I've read that the red dye is actually the anti-carcinogen betaine and that if it turns your pee red it's because it's actually entered your blood stream and may be flushing out carcinogens

Yes, my grandparents lived on a lake in New England. We used to rake out the excess seaweed and place it on top of the soil like mulch. It worked great at trapping moisture in the soil as well as fertilizing the plants.

Vitamin C supplements at high doses can help. But, it's at really, really high doses usually and you have to take many doses a day or take it intravenously because it breaks down quickly and easily. The body probably does respond to vitamin C in foods better because of the synergistic relationships of other vitamins, minerals, and other compounds found in whole foods. But, it may not be possible

I hate these compact bulbs with a passion. I don't like them from the standpoint that they do not provide as much light as they say and I have to buy a higher wattage to perceive the same amount of light as an incandescent. So, I use as much, if not more energy using these 'energy savers' and at added cost to my health. But, I had a friend who had a bulb break in her hand while screwing it i

Glad you're back, Vinny. I don't think ther new or increased awareness. The focus just changes with fashion. You know, health spas, cod liver oil, constitutional walks, the anti-oxidant revolution, and so on all had there days. I don't think it can be called an increase in awareness until the statistics start showing diet related disease and dysfunction such as diabetes, obesity, vitam

Rab, your grandparents diet does not sound like S.A.D., but Weston-Price style diet. Very different, and much healthier. It doesn't take a year to get used to a certain way of eating. A few years ago I tried raw for a few weeks and the first thing I had when I gave it up was a can of ravioli that I had been craving. Half way in I had very violent stomach churning and wound up with digestive

Raw food isn't all that popular in this area, so it's interesting to see someone trying to start a raw restaurant and that it was deemed newsworthy by a major newspaper. The food looks very gourmet. For reservations:

I don't know her. I don't want to know her. She really rubs me the wrong way. It's not just the word "bitch", it's the whole foul-mouthed, nasty, mean-spirited, derogatory attitude she affects. Her message gets lost in it for me. I don't really equate mean with funny or witty. There are certain types of humor that can be mean, like sarcasm, but just because something is mean does
