Yeah, walnuts are usually harvested in the fall. Almonds and filberts, late summer to early fall. Brazil nuts in the winter (of the northern hemisphere). This is also when they generally appear unshelled in bins in the stores. I remember as a kid seeing them start appear in September and finding it hard to wait for the sales that were usually between Thanksgiving and Christmas. If you get

I tried UMAC's product once. It's suspended in apple juice and I used it in juices and smoothies. All I tasted was the apple juice, but it's pricy and I didn't notice a difference in my health.

Thanks for the encouragement! I'm so glad that you liked one of the recipes and that pictures and recipes are useful to others. I started this thread to motivate myself to keep trying new dishes, but reading that others are getting something out of it is a big bonus. I do plan on posting more, I've just got a full schedule for the next few weeks, I think after that things will settle and I

Those were fun. I think the store down the street sells all of them (not all of the time though). I've had most of them and can't say they appeal. But, it took me about 15 years to be able to appreciate mango.

African yams and white potatoes are. Sweet potatoes are not, but they do have a trypsin inhibitor that prevents protein digestion. This inhibitor is broken down by cooking. They're tasty juiced. They can also be peeled and eaten like carrots or crackers/chips depending on how you slice them.

Chocolate Mousse This was much richer and had a deeper chocolate flavor than I was expecting. If I tried it again, I'd use raw cocoa powder (which I didn't have) instead of the nibs. The texture wound up slightly gritty because it was hard to get a really fine grind on those. Other than that, very decadent dish. - 1 ripe California avocado - 4 medjool dates - 2 tsp. raw agave syrup

Congratulations on your experiment! It's so much fun when those work out. Apple season is in the fall, but there are several types that can be kept for months if stored properly. Yours were probably from last fall.

I'm not sure there is a one to one replacement for avocado, but for creamy textures you can try soaked and blended nuts, green (immature coconut flesh), or blending other fruits like banana or papaya. There are also thickeners like irish moss that can be used for some recipes. Are there particular recipes you're trying to work with? Someone might have some good suggestions for making alternati

Equal in nutrition? Fruits are all different, but you can live without eating avocados. Are you looking for other raw fats? Ways of creating a creamy texture in food prep?

Green Caesar This was rich, but tasty. It's a bit like a cross between a Green Goddess and Caesar dressing. - 1/3 cup macadamias - 2/3 cup water - 1/4 cup olive oil - 10 sprigs parsley - 1 clove garlic - 1/2 tsp. salt Soak macadamia nuts overnight in 2/3 cup water. Thanks, joy_peace. Applesauce - 3 apples (I like Fuji, but use what you like) - 1 lemon, juiced - 1 tbsp. raw honey or agave syrup - 1 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil Peel, core, and coarsely chop apples. Place in blender along with 1/2 lemon juice, 1.5 tsp. honey, and 1.5 tsp. olive oil. Blend until smooth (for 20 or 30 seconds). Scoop out applesauce and repeat steps from beginnin

Thanks, la_veronique. The white stuff was a gravy. It was not very tasty, so I didn't save the recipe. All I can remember is it had onions and celery, and something that made it kind of gritty. I can't remember what though.

Pborst, I take supplements, but I still sometimes benefit from increasing the amount of zinc in my diet. I think because many nutrients are used at surprisingly higher rates when the body is under stress, this is not a moot point even for those taking supplements.

This won't necessarily work for everyone, but I go by my acne. If it starts getting worse, I eat more pumpkin seeds. This usually clears it up. If it doesn't, I look at other causes.

Tomato Mango Soup This combo sounded odd to me, but I've seen it recommended various places and decided to try it. Garnish with green onion. Serves: 1 Nutrition Info: Nutrition Data

Is this the only acid fruit you have trouble with? Or do kiwis and other fruits cause this problem for you too? Pineapple is particularly difficult for some people to eat. It is high in both bromelain which can cause a stinging sensation on the lips or tongue. The riper it is, the less of this there is in there. So, you can try eating only very ripe fruits and in smaller quantities to see i
