I dumped a handful of "raw" nuts and seeds from the Whole Foods bulk bins into water to see if they'd sprout. I didn't separate them by species, so there may be some inhibitory enzymes keeping the other kind of nuts from sprouting. I really don't know. It's only day two, but I'm surprised already with this experiment. The almonds seem to be trying to sprout. There is a pinhead siz

Take it for what you will, but I have problems with nightshades. I had *very* bad joint pain for years. Every morning I woke up with burning muscles and joints that felt swollen and tender. I went from eating very large amounts of nightshades, tomatoes in particular, to none and in two weeks much of my chronic joint pain was gone. I have since added nightshades back into my diet in smaller

QuoteThis is a vegan forum. I am in the process of deleting messages that go something like this: the reason I need to eat some animal product is because of XYZ. I'm sorry to see that is how it is handled. I actually enjoy reading the about the different experiences and struggles people have keeping raw and vegan and the counter as to why something might or might not work. It alerts me to what

QuoteI have been curious about the pasteurization of almonds lately. Many stores still sell "raw" almonds like Whole Foods and Trader Joes. Rainbow Grocery (in San Francisco) has some almonds imported and they cost twice as much. I wonder if the Whole Foods almonds are really raw. Probably not huh. And that chemical sounds pretty scary. Maybe its time to eat more walnuts and brazil nu

Yeah, the canned meat in sauce as being more of a vegetable (and therefore a better food choice) than whole corn really bugs me. I also don't like how the line is blurred between supplements and food, like with the kiddie juices that have DHA added and are sold as juice rather than supplements. And, every time I go to Whole Foods, I'm dismayed by how much of what they sell aren't actually

So much feedback. This is awesome! Let me see if I have this straight, the nutritional considerations that have been raised so far are: - Too much fat in the diet which could put me off a raw diet and acidify the blood? * If I got hungry couldn’t I just eat more? I’m feeling less hungry than I have on some higher calorie diets. * Why would a higher proport

Thanks, everyone for being so kind and helpful. Utopian Life, I think I might have given the wrong impression. I have trained myself over the years to tolerate a variety of fruits. The two to three servings of fruits I eat aren't just apples and watermelon. I consume strawberries, raspberries, bananas, oranges, pineapples, mangoes, honeydews, pears, peaches, and many other fruits as part of
