Without curious streams of thought, we'd just accept what we're told, no questions. Disagreement or not on this thread, I think we can agree that we don't want that!

Listening to your body is, from my experience, the best thing you can do. An "all raw" diet of nothing but cashews and dates isn't balanced, and would take a backseat to a balanced Mediterranean diet, etc. Does that mean it's better? No, because I could drink red wine and eat nothing but olives, and that Mediterranean diet is no longer so healthy. As has been posted above, it's all ab

I always wondered if eggplant could/should be eaten raw. Not sure if this would work on artichokes, but I like to freeze veggies first before using them in some recipes, to soften them up a bit.

I'd second that advice...that, and I wonder what else you generally eat in your diet, if you were exposed to any mild stomach flu, etc....

It's now technically raw if it's pure sugar, since I do believe it's heated up to 160 degrees. "raw" sugar contains more minerals, though, and is better for you than refined.

Each person's needs are going to be a bit different, so what works for one person might not work best for another. The closest we can get is a generalization of what tends to make the most people feel vibrant and thriving....the art of listening to your body.

Just because a species' bodies evolved to deal with something, it doesn't mean it's ideal. For example, certain plants have evolved to survive the cold but will do MUCH better in warm climates. Simple analogy, but in the same way, it makes sense to me that although humans may have learned to tolerate meat, there is no advantage that I can identify to eating it. Seems our bodies might survive w

When you say that magnesium and calcium are lacking? Do you believe this is true of long-term raw fooders? Also, which standard are you using--for example, the US standard "requires" more calcium than any other western country, and osteoporosis rates are higher here. I'm not sure that the "professionals" have necessarily arrived upon the correct ideal dietary allowances of

I'd take the food processor as #1, because you can make thick smoothie-like concoctions in it as well as pretty quick recipes that involve chopping. I have a dehydrator but don't use it much except to dry out fruits and veggies I don't want to go bad. I have a juicer, too, but it's so much work to clean, which deters me from using it much.

Do you find that the raw, sprouted chickpeas digest well for you? Another take on the raw hummos idea for those that can't easily eat sprouted legumes would be to use zucchini (my favorite) or cashews.

I'm a fan of simple. I do some food prep on the weekends to last me through the week, but even then, I feel like my body is usually asking for the simpler things, like fruit by itself, smoothies, salads (if you hate it, you're eating the wrong salad), and 2-3 ingredient recipes.

Or even throw some raw pesto sauce on the top...that could work even if you're 80-10-10; you'd just have to make the pesto with few or no nuts/oil.

It really depends on the type of raw food diet the author follows. HCRV authors like Doug Graham won't have so many nut-heavy recipes.

I've never used Irish moss, but then again, it's never been available/around for me to try. I like using flax seeds or chia seeds to thicken things up.

I know by listening to my body. Before we had books and fancy measuring tools, that's all we had, and that got us through thousands of years so far. Your body pretty much knows what it needs; it's a learned skill to listen to it.

As has been said above, the sugar actually chemically changes when you make kombucha. Will ALL of it change? Probably not--it's near impossible to know the exact time that all of the sugar has turned, but personally, I can't drink the sugary beverages at ALL and can drink kombucha (and love it). It's arguable as to what exactly the medicinal properties are, but I've heard everything from B12 to

What would you say is the primary absorbable source of B12 that meat eaters get and we don't? We know that B12 is largely destroyed by heat and irradiation, and that B12 supposedly present in meat isn't well absorbed.

Good question. A few sentences after, it reads, "There is a question as to what the clinical cutoff for deficiency should be." Earlier in the study, they estimate that about 2/5 of the entire population may be deficient if the study is any indication. I don't beleive I said the entire population was deficient. However, based on the study and the percentage that was projected to b

The USDA has no reason to promote veganism, so although normally I'd agree with the mal-intent of such an organization, they have nonetheless come to the conclusion in this case that vegans AND MEAT EATERS alike have the tendency to become deficient, regardless of the reason. So far, no one has really disagreed with that premise, even if you don't like the study

@powerlifer: Sorry you feel that way. In my own experience, I have no reason to doubt it--I know of meat-eaters and vegans alike with the deficiency. That, and see below: That, and, it's a question of how we measure the deficiency....it's long been an argument as to how much we actually need and how best to measure it (urine test or blood test). To my knowledge, even studies in the UK don'

If you are torturing yourself emotionally, you're probably doing more harm than good. I take what I see as a pretty balanced approach, with high-raw as the basis, allowing for small exceptions when 100% raw would be severely stressful or detrimental:
