Mindy, I am referring to the high percentage of fruit. Naturally I seem to prefer more salads and wraps, and that feels better to me.

There are all sorts of sea vegetables available. For me personally, one of the only ones I find regular use for in making food is nori. Nori wraps are amazing! That and you can find raw nori in most health food stores quite easily. I wouldn't say there's necessarily a daily allowance I know of that's recommended as far as sea vegetables go, just like there's no daily allowance of tomatoes

I take the "listen to your body" approach. For me personally, eating clay just doesn't seem like a good idea!

A fast in general allows your body to exert less energy on digestion, which means that by default you have more available in total. However, if you're looking purely at calories, it's very mathematical: If you consume LESS calories than you burn, generally the weight comes off unless you've got some sort of disorder. Nutritionists recommend a 2,000 calorie diet, but that will vary depen

You have to listen to your body. For me, that's too high a pecentage of fruit. Unless you're a super-athlete, you probably won't have much use for all of that extra sugar. Also, our take on the "raw" food pyramid:

Personally I fear that you may figuratively be shooting yourself in the foot by trying to go 100% right away. Your chances of success and sticking with it are statistically much lower, and your chances of keeping with it in the long run (long enough for results) are also lower. It seems that most people I know who STAY raw transitioned into it, and I may be slightly biased toward this as it

Always loads of greens, carrots, and whatever organic fruit/veg was on sale that week. I usually have avocados around, frozen berries, and usually some cashews, buckwheat, and sunflower seeds. Other ingredients depend on what recipes I feel like making, if something's on sale, etc.

If you're eating a balanced diet, you shouldn't have to supplement...that's part of the beauty of the raw diet, getting all of your nutrients in their naturally occurring form, raw food.

I'm not sure peanuts are really the safest thing to eat raw, from what I've seen...there are other nuts/seeds out there without quite the risk of aflatoxin (sp?)

Seems that it's one reason raw foods ARE so healing: The majority of them ARE alkalizing, even if the food itself (like a lemon) measures with an acidic pH. Here's a chart: I feel that traditional/conventional medicine overcomplicates most issues we face as humankind.

Sounds life you need to eat more greens! Green juice, is one of the easiest ways to do it--not necessarily to add calories but to encourage healthy blood/weight/nutrition.

Just eating this way will necessarily affect your social life, and your social life affects you. After a while, you choose to either be a closet raw foodist or an open one, and both kinds, open ones especially, tend to gravitate toward other raw foodists. These people affect how you act, who you become.

I would add that if your reason for substituting (especially nuts) is budget that seeds are a good substitute. I used to use sunflower or pumpkin seeds in place of nuts in many recipes.

First, I must say that I'm a fan of your posts because you're not afraid to speak your mind, even if the ideas are controversial. Second, I agree that the "purity for the sake of purity" mindset isn't very productive--we should be able to be personally behind any decision we make, and if a little experimentation will do the trick, or if only taking steps WHEN and IF you're ready wi

I'd say about Bragg's what I say about overt fats--if you eat it, and it makes you feel good, not worse, it's probably fine--truly listening to your body, it will generally tell you when enough is enough. Who knows...maybe that point is now, down the road, or not at all...
