UPDATE: I found out that the reason I was hyperventilating was my thyroid is acting up. I have auto-immune thyroid which means my body is attacking my thyroid and it is dying. That is a reason my pH is all over the place, also. I need to eat more alkalizing foods to tame it down, such as organic bananas. So all of this hyperventilation stuff had nothing to do with raw foods. I wish raw foods c

I hear ya! It is difficult sometimes. It was especially hard on myself because my husband and family ate that stuff while I was 100% raw. I remember being so hard on myself for slipping, then feeling bloated. Then I crashed on the fruitarian diet and was diagnosed with acidosis which I never had before. Could have been the citrus fruits and grapes I ate a lot of from the supermarket. I thought

Coconutcream, I sense that you were too hard on yourself. You sounded a lot like me when my mainly fruitarian diet wasn't working. I was hungry and then did what you call "binge" eat. What you need to ask yourself is why did I go and experiment with a nut patty? Was I hungry? Was the current diet not leaving me satisfied? What is your body trying to tell you. So with that, I wish

I'd eat more almonds than other nuts because of the alkalizing nature of the almonds. If you eat too much nuts that are acidic, your body will try to use up other enzymes to get rid of the extra acids being produced. You can eat more almonds, too, because they have a lower fat content. Just my experience....

Leguminous plants, such as soybeans and chickpeas, bring a large quanity of uric acid into the body. This is because they are full of purines. They are naturally alkaline, but these purines are transformed into uric acid and must be eliminated out of the body. So to my understanding, it inhibits enzymes because the body is taking it's extra enzymes to get rid of the acids. Now, to my knowledg

I'm glad you are eating well, Mama Cass and have recovered from bulimia. That's what my mother faces and has faced since a teenager. She has to self-talk everyday. So anyone coming out of that I applaud! Thanks for praying!

Black strap molasses is increasing my blood volume now, but that isn't raw. I am taking it and the color on my face has returned after being so sick. Hope this helps, but it isn't raw. So if you are looking for raw, I hope someone can give you some answers.

For me, when I think of 100% raw, I feel sick, because I was getting pretty sick on 100% raw. I still eat raw, but not 100% anymore. Infact, I am eating a balance in alkaline-acid vegaterian diet now so I can get my strenth back so I don't feel like I'm dying anymore. I feel tons better. I think balance is the key. A person individually should seek it out on their own on the raw foods diet. The

This is exactly what led me to over eating on fruit. I was always hungry, then the sugar from the fruits made me even hungrier. Terrible feeling. I don't think that it would hurt to add some steamed potatoes (not boiled) along with the raw food diet to get some extra fullness and energy. Drinking the broth from the potatoes helps, too. I have, and I feel better.

Eat more vegatables. It probably wouldn't hurt to eat some steamed potatoes either for some extra energy and the alkalizing effects. Drink the potatoe broth after the potatoes to get the extra enzymes.

I don't think it is bad, as long as one doesn't over do it.

I'm sorry, I have a feeling that I scared you. I can say that some people do well on fruit and it alkalizes in their bodies just fine, but a person that doesn't metabolize acids well, it will have an acidic effect. I know others will give you some good advice on here. I do know that bananas are alkalizing, and also vegatables. Avocados are alkalizing as far as I know, but why would you just w

Thanks ILoveJen. Yeah, I know how you feel about being paranoid that people are looking at you. And you are very courageous yourself. A strong individual. Oh, and I live in the mid-west. Thanks ela, you are courageous, also, and I am glad that you have recovered from an eating disorder. I know what you mean about strict, for I have been there too, to the point that I didn't feel free anymor

Thanks for the input everyone. The support here is great. Yes. That's what I meant by balance. Bryan, after reading so many of your posts in the past, I can see that your diet is very well balanced. You inncorporate greens in your smoothies. I, on the other hand, wasn't getting that balance and it has been 4 months on mostly raw. To my conclusion, I was already suffering from acidosi

Here are some warning signs that I have been through on 100% raw high-fruit low fat diet. Just to give some warning so people can be as healthy as possible. If you are cold most or all of the time, there is a problem. Pruny hands all of the time. Hyperventilation. You may have acidosis. I was getting quite often just recently. Needed balance in diet. Hair is falling out even after b

I think that is a good idea, because some fruits to some people can cause too much acid and cause acidosis ( I wish I would have known that earlier.) I am limiting my fruits or combining it with something that is more alkaline.

Balnace your alkaline and acid foods. You need a balanced pH otherwise a person will get skin problems. Believe me, I know.

I would recomend getting some litmus paper and testing your ph. I have learned that if I am too acidic, I am sweating, if I am too alkaline, I am cold and don't sweat. Just another suggestion. Everyone else mentioned some good things too.

Here's what has been going on. WHen I first went raw, I had gotten this spell of hyperventilation, it was after I ate a salad with flax seeds in it. Then about a month later, I had another spell. Well, it has been 4 months starting out on mostly raw. I have been good about being 100% for over a month now with one slip up. Well, the other day I had another spell. Very scary. I didn't know wh
