We slept on the floor with a bedrole for four years. Now we just put plywood over a futon frame and sleep atop of that. I was tired of the dogs thinking it was their bed :-). I feel very different for that. We homeschool for non religeous reasons. We don't find much of that where we live. Deep South. Our religeon has a little bit of this and that. We pretty much fit in in Houston. It is

We have been raw vegan for 6 months. The kids and I were vegetarian before then. The first month we went raw 99%. After that month long commitment we decided to cheat one meal every week and wean ourselves that way. We gave our eleven year old positive affirmations to memorize about eating healthy food. We teach it and model it. I have always restricted their diet. We limited candy and any

I grew up in Houston, Texas. We had a pasture a couple miles from my home where we had up to eight horses. I spent most of my free time there. The pasture was a short walk from my grandparents who lived on an acre and a half. They had lived in the country before the city had grown up around them. I only wanted to live in the country my whole life. My parents tried to move out but never actua

Our good friends who were very much SAD and overweight and always sick saw how great we look and feel started adding raw to their diet. They have added more and more. It is such a great feeling to know that you influenced someone like that and now we get together and eat raw and exchange recipes. Her good friend saw that she lost 14 lbs. in two weeks so she asked for some recipes. When you ch

Singin, I thought about when I was a kid and how I got picked on. I was a total tomboy with little parental supervision. I was dirty and tough. I am a tiny girl so I was a bit odd. I didn't fit in at all. We had horses, dogs and cats (still do) and I spent a lot of time with them which was incredible for my self esteem. I always dressed like the boys and hung out with them and I had to

I am very thankful, too, for all you guys. I jumped into raw head first with a husband and three kids following me. A little scary. Ya'll have been a great support and source of information. It always helps to know people have your back when you are going against the flow of society. I have no doubt that most people will get sick and tired of being sick and tired and we will be looked to for

It was so rich and decadent so our portions were small and I think it was about 8 to 10 servings.

The strawberry crepes are fantastic. I read a blueberry crepe yesterday on Raw Pleasure that was topped with banana ice cream and carob sauce. Sounds like heaven. It is true about the information in her book. I like the simplicity in the writing.

I am 5 months into raw so I have been asked about it a lot. Everyone I know is curious. I have found if I start by saying I eat uncooked food and nothing from an animal then focus on how much better I feel and all the benefits of eating this way. If they are really interested they will ask questions. I will then tell them more about what I don't eat. I think unless someone has searched for

I really was addicted to chips and crackers when eating cooked. I never could find the right crunch and texture I wanted until I went to Whole Foods in Houston and got a box of Yaya's Raw Rah crackers. I then realized I could have a really good raw cracker and I got some idea of how the texture should be. Then I was helped even more when I bought "Absolutely Abeba's Krazy Krackers" bo

Yes, they brown up in the dehydrator. They are made mostly of sprouted Lentils. The Honey mustard and mayo are good too.

I made cabbage yesterday that came out good. I really worked the cabbage with my hands after I shredded it. I then added leeks, olive oil and italian seasoning. The whole family ate it up, even all three kids. I used to make it pre-raw by steaming it with butter then mixing it up and adding kidney beans. Yesterday we had yummy raw black-eyed peas with it for our luck .

I would really be interested in knowing his tests results just to see how eating living foods with no supplements really is effecting him. To say we believe his new issues are physical or spiritual or something else is all speculation. The truth is it is all just guess work. We need to put more importance on studying this diet. Storm said in "Breakthrough" he does know the what the

I have been raw for about 4 months. My first book and intro to raw was Allissa Cohen's. At first I was trying a lot of the recipes that were mock cooked. Some I liked but a lot of them seemed too much trouble and weren't worth the effort. I started focusing on the more simple recipes and have found some really good ones. I think my favorite is marinade for greens. I loved spinach cooked in

You are wise beyond your years esisser. I love the "Law of Diffusion." Sapphire, I am shocked your mom got you hooked on cigs. as a child, no less. At some point you have to realize that being different from certain family members is a great thing which may make others think you're smug. I am definitely the more health conscience one in my family but because we are such an ecle

I'm with you, Rooneyandmuldoon. Cheating is something I plan for and I don't beat myself up about it. I always feel sick after eating cooked and someday I plan to go 100% raw. I got sick of salad too. Even when I made other things it seemed like it was usually just another kind of salad. I like eating nuts just by the handful and it reminds me of eating snacks like chips, especially brazil

About 8 years ago I had a middle ear infection and a doc prescibed a daily dose of Claritin. It was the first time ever that my allergies were not driving me crazy. After almost a year the Claritin quit working and I completely lost my sense of smell. It was a little depressing and I knew the Claritan had caused it. After years went by I began to think it would never come back. After about t
