all food spike insulin levels, not only fruit. If you don't eat much fat then the insulin can escort the sugar out of the bloodstream quickly - if your system is clogged with fat then the insulin says "help! Can't find a way out and I gotta take this sugar to where its needed!" So then it stays stuck in the bloodstream - when you reduce the fat you eat the insulin can say "Oh h

I'm not sure that there is such a thing as "too much fruit" it is the food that our bodies prefer as it's simple sugars are easy to absorb and give us wonderful energy! How can we have too much of that? Sugar is not a bad thing - unless you are covering your bananas in refined sugar and dunking your strawberries in chocolate sauce! I naturally wandered over to the 80/10/10 way a

perhaps just have a little chat with yourself - do you really want to lose weight? what benefits are you receiving from being overweight? just go through your mind and tell yourself not to be frightened, weight loss isn't scary and you can do anything - but it will all be okay. It's scary to do things that are new, and know that we can accomplish them. Just tell yourself that everyday you c

I agree with Bryan - what's wrong with loads of fruit? The kids will love it too - I remember loving clementines, tangerines etc when I was a kid because peeling them was fun - trying to get the whole peel off in one go. I'm sure the kids wont mind you eating loads of fruit in front of them!

I tend to go for fruit in the day and veggies in the evening. If my house is stocked with fruit and greens it's all good - otherwise I consume some staples like nori and dried fruit. yesterday I ate oranges and clementines in the day and in the evening I had 6 bananas blended with some raisins and some carob. Also 2 tomatoes, nori with carrot and brocolli.

just keep an open mind on how you will feel- and always tell yourself that you have a choice. If you really want bread with cashew butter then tell yourself you can have it, as long as you accept that you have made that choice. Sometimes we do things in order to rebel against a strict mindset. Make sure you aren't strict just open and you will decide to go with whatever you want. It seem

ooh that sucks. canola oil and water? hmmm very nutritious! I agree with David. Don't stress about it, just include more and more fruit into your diet everyday. Our bodies are great at cleansing, food isn't cleansing - it just helps the body to cleanse when it has lots of fruit in it : D you'll be fine, good luck and hope you are feeling better x

I don't know if you can make it yourself, I have seen it for sale in health food shops. I have tried it, and tastes nice in my opinion. If it helps those caffeine/coffee cravings somewhat, then it can't be all bad I guess : D

I've never been one for coffee, tea or cola - in short, in my adult life I've rarely consumed caffeine. So when I kept having headaches not so long ago I was puzzled as I don't usually have headaches - one thing I was doing though was drinking green tea. Which has caffeine! I stopped drinking it and my headaches went away, I started drinking it again, and my headaches returned. Now I don't d

wow amazing stories of unassisted birth! Maui Greg - what a wonderful comment - that we have to unlearn all the fear that has been placed on us over the years. That is something I have been feeling myself of late - all this fear - if we just listened to ourselves we'd find the answers in a sea of calm. that is pretty shocking about the japanese diet of one piece of fruit in pregnancy! how

I read that Lowri T article and I commented on it - wonder if they posted it? Anyhow - I thought she was sooo negative. Well really, she was just plain miserable and didn't really want to believe that what she was eating had any benefits. Also I think in her defence the food was too gourmet, like you said. It would have been easier for her to just shovel loads of lovely oranges into her gob w

On channel 4 UK this friday - First Cut documentary on Health addicts - talks about the raw food diet. Doesn't look like it will be a positive message from reading blurbs, but who knows? The Big Food Fight FIRST CUT: HEALTH FOOD JUNKIES 11 January 2008, 7.30pm, C4 Something strange is happening to our food: it’s no longer simply something we eat, but an idol we’re encouraged to wor

well I had surgery earlier this year and the wound for most of this year has been a dark, purpleish colour. this last month and half I have been eating loads of fruit, more greens, less fats - my scar is healing at an incredible rate. It's very light pink now!! I'm happy about this. Also my nails are very shiny. My skin is dry today though. Did eat lots of nuts last night!

Hey Joanna - at least you've had some apples and carrots ; ) hehe This is your own personal journey - and you can choose exactly how you want to travel. What would you be more comfortable doing? Would you be happier introducing more raw foods into your diet. Going 100% raw over night, Or eliminating certain substances over a period of time? My personal experience was taking the lat

I work in a television production company. I do a variety of things - but get paid for coming up with ideas for kids tv programmes, and working on ones that we film here on location. I have presented about gardening occassionaly. I feel very honoured to have this job as I feel I can part with some of my own personal philosophies into the media that we stream. I try to write scripts that h

strange indeed - although I am finding that I am over sleeping at the moment. I do eat lots of fruit. BUT - here it is winter and dark all the time, so I think it's natural for me to want to snuggle back into bed and not get up into the cold! One morning I just jumped up out of bed and wasn't tired at all because I set my mind to wanting to wake up because I had an appointment. I wasn't tir

actually - reading that times report - it just doesn't make sense. calorie for calorie? Are they insinuating that more calories are better? What about everything else - aside from calories, which at the end of the day, ain't that big a deal!

funny you should post this as today I worked out how much I spend on food per day. I then asked people in my office and people on another forum I frequent (non raw) how much they spend on food in a day - and it wasn't that much different to me. I eat 80/10/10 and all organic. I was surprised that I don't spend that much in comparison with other people on standard diets. Also I can consume

I've recently discovered persimmons - doesn't take long to find out when they are ripe! The skin on a Hachiya persimmon should turn from a light colour to a dark one - showing that the insides have turned from a firm dark yellow, to a soft clear orange jelly. When you press down they should feel like they are about to burst. You can cut them in half and see the difference. If there's a lot of

i was going to say the same as Bryan - chewing really helps. Don't eat too fast, and reduce how much saturated fats you consume - and then all fats in general.

so sorry to hear that - can you expel breast milk into a bottle? If he is drinking cows milk in formula I'm pretty certain that that is not helping much. Seeing as he is 8 months old he is pretty reliant on mothers milk right now so wouldn't know if he could consume anything other than that - but African tribes sometimes chew food and feed the chewed food to their babies. Their saliva helps

My ferrets often accidentally scratch my arms - the new scratches are healing up really fast now that I am eating more fruit - especially when I eat citrus, acid fruits. Oranges, tangerines, clementines, pineapples and kiwi fruits seem to really help my scratches vanish. Also I had an operation at the start of the year, and since eating more fruit and less fat my deep scars are really healing

thanks F1 djachi - aside from what F1 elegantly says, I think going within is something many of us do on a daily basis, perhaps with out realising it. I think by your posting here you are already questioning, which is a part of looking inside yourself. I think going within is akin to looking at yourself properly for the first time, maybe the first time ever - it's taking a rag and cleaning

hey if I could just add my 2 cents - I agree with F1 - you shouldn't stress about it. But if you can afford it, and it is available then I think you should choose organic - if not for any other reason than that organically grown produce is kinder on the imediate environment. Usually organic farms support more wildlife - and I love wildlife! So I like to grow my own organic veg as well as buy
