Powerlifer, I've said all I want about garlic in the article. I haven't the inclination to defend garlic against those who think it's a wonderful thing. Yes, 99% of the world does think garlic is a wonderful thing.

So those who don't think garlic should be consumed are 'orthorexic', are they? Oh well! Green peppers - well, they're unripe and less digestible than ripe ones. Having grown peppers, I know that they take a looong time to ripen. So, for profit reasons, they love to sell them to us unripe. I don't see that choosing to eat ripe peppers (after all, red are plentiful) is 'orthorexic'! Herbs

Well, I will say, as have said before, that passions are certainly aroused when one suggests that garlic might not be such a wonderfood... I would say more, but more interesting to me right now is that my cat has just stuck his head into my pint mug and is lapping up banana smoothie. Sorry to be OT, but fancy that eh?!

I'm confused. I followed the thread about garlic, then read the thread about orthorexia. In the middle of the orthorexia thread there were messages about garlic! Please could the garlic messages be reposted to the garlic thread?

Re phrases used by posters here, such as 'healthy cooked food' and Victoria 'lightening up'... there is no such thing as 'healthy' cooked food. Remember 'health' comes from the word 'whole'. The best we can say of certain cooked foods is that they are 'less unhealthy' than other cooked foods. And I'd be very happy if people I knew swapped their KFC for steamed vegs and brown rice. Before

buddhistforlife, I know some may see this as being a killjoy, but don't you think that, really, it was simply the salt and pepper (both toxic) that made them so 'tasty'? Unfortunately, salt does make raw food remind us of the taste-titillating sensations we (thought we'd) left behind with the cooked food diet. The use of salt in general makes it much harder to go truly raw. I reckon they wou

tropical, the 'stones' are made by glugging down large amounts of oil, not just the oil on a salad, which would 'go down' with a lot of other food. And it's not just 'according to me'. In the article, you'll see that there are some highly-qualified people who also believe these flushes are 'snake oil'. There's not really any point in my arguing this one here, as I've been collecting info o

I remember someone suggesting that the body will only prepare for reproduction if/when it believes it's being threatened/senses its destruction. I've always found that an interesting theory.

Agree to some extent, WY (and I love your article too, Swayze!). I'd worried that a couple of posters on my blog were misunderstanding the article, that is, thinking I was saying that we shouldn't go for perfection. I believe we should all be aiming for perfection, in food - and everything else, and that in fact is what life is about (won't go into that here!), but that we're all on a journ

Thanks, Mean One, for quoting from 'Becoming Raw' re calorie intake. Their calorie figures make sense to me. One area in which I depart from other high-fruiters is on calorie intake. Some high-fruiters appear to think it impossible to thrive on less than 2500-3000 calories upwards (for a woman). My experience after three and a half years of raw is that this simply isn't true, or at least n

Just realised I'm 'in' this thread! Thanks, Flipperjan :-) BTW, I do have a few grey hairs - it's just that they don't show much! (Yet.) The photo' was taken last year. I'm 52 on 9/11. Most things look good, except for my calves and feet, which are those of an 80 year-old. But that's probably from wearing very silly platform shoes in the 70s. If ever I want to warn young girls of the

Re the posters saying they like 'an alkaline body', Prana's body on high fruit will be just as alkaline as Wheatgrass Yogi's and others. I have always understood the environment of ALL of our bodies is 'neutral to alkaline', ie 7.35 pH. The body will do whatever's necessary to maintain 7.35, ie if lots of acidic foods are ingested, it will leech calcium from the bones to maintain 7.35.

Coco's post: 'I really wish I had kept it up, though, because as soon as I stopped my teeth turned all kinds of yellow - much worse than ever before. (I'm still a coffee drinker and big-time tea drinker). So that would be my caution: if you get into it, stick with it or your teeth will revert back to a color worse than what you started with.' Doesn't this suggest that 'oil pulling' is not a

I drink very little water - perhaps half a glass of day on average. And I'm quite active (hot yoga, gardening etc). I follow a high-fruit raw diet, and see no need to glug down vast quantities of water when I don't feel like it. I drink when I'm thirsty. Some people throw their hands up in horror at this and say 'if you drink when you're thirsty, you're already dehydrated'. Well, sure I
