Hi Mislu For the benefit of those new to raw/Natural Hygiene, I am assuming you did mean to say that, as a child, you didn't like the things Natural Hygiene says we should NOT be eating (eg meat, salt, vinegar, pickles etc)?

Certainly does. Selling by whipping up fear is usually very effective. Persuading those who don't need your product that 'you do - oh you really do!'.

Mislu, I hope I haven't worried you unnecessarily. Whilst I am convinced we shouldn't be putting clay into our bodies, the body is sufficiently resilient to bounce back from all sorts of crazy things we might do to it, eg I have ingested alcohol, nicotine, other substances, cooked food (!)...at various points in my life, none of which should have entered my body, ideally...

I have a blenderful of sickly-sweet smoothie - bananas, Medjool dates, and a tablespoonful of (non-'optimal') nut butter. Raw comfort food!

Mislu, save your money. Here's an article on Vitamin D that you may find of interest. (By the way, the title is 'ironic'...IMO there's no 'danger'!)

I strongly recommend no one eats clay. (Women in Ghana can be duped by 'herbalists' in just the same way women in London, California will be...)

Catalpa, I'm going to suggest that you are not actually hungry frequently, but you are subject to stomach sensations that you are incorrectly interpreting as hunger. Please see this article:

I've been raw for three years and have no problems with tomatoes and certainly wouldn't want to stop eating them, or even restrict their use. They're an integral part of many of my raw dishes. I have onions and garlic occasionally, but less and less as I do feel there are good reasons for avoiding them.

I still think 'Sunfood Nutrition' is a great, and inspiring book and David deserves much credit for bringing people to raw. I fell out of love with him when I received an e-mail that said that the raw food diet CANNOT (not 'may not', but CANNOT) meet our mineral needs and to contact him to find out where to get what's missing.

Hi folks Biology undergraduate friend of daughter wants to do a project on raw food and heart disease. We all know that raw food, or particularly vegan, is good for the heart, as no/low LDL cholesterol means no arteriosclerosis, lowered blood pressure etc etc. BUT can anyone supply any links to hard data on raw/vegan and heart disease that might pass muster with academics? I know ther

I lost all my excess weight on a raw food diet including lots of nuts. I've continued to eat nuts throughout and have never put it back it on.

'I can't eat/drink ANYTHING without immediately racing to the bathroom. NOTHING stays in me and seems to run right through. ' Your body very much doesn't want anything to eat now, whilst it is marshalling all of its energy to eliminate toxins (the 'diarrhoea'). Do as the animals do when they're unwell. Don't eat. Rest. Drink water only.

Hi Lizard On the rare occasions I've put my day's eating into Cron-o-Meter I've had all sorts of protein figures from around 20 to 40g. Here's an excerpt from a blog article of mine on protein: 'How much protein do we need? No one knows how much protein you, as an individual, need to consume at this precise point in your life. What scientists have come up with over the years is figure

Plainlydressed You asked us what we thought of the recipe you posted in your opening thread which contained, amongst other things, a cup of walnuts and a cup of oil. It was extremely, incredibly...high in fat (and salt). I tried to lighten my post with some humour. No one's 'judging' you! Could I suggest you don't post and ask people 'what they think' unless you actually want to kno

Except that NH would take issue with their external use as well... eg herbalists say plantain will 'seal' a wound. NH says that the reason the wound 'seals' is that the body is trying to protect itself against the plantain! Sorry, I'm digressing a bit.

Who knows - Bryan and I could be swilling down garlic smoothies this time next year. Maybe. Anyway, I've been 100% for a couple of years now, but still have them sometimes. My excuse is that my non-raw husband likes them in 'transition foods'. But, when I'm making food just for myself, I rarely use them, and on the rare occasions I do feel a hankering for a little chopped red onion, do f

Hi plainlydressed 1 cup olive oil - huge amount of fractionated 'food' - very high in fat. 2 cloves garlic - see garlic/onions thread! 1 tsp salt - high level of toxic substance 1 tsp black pepper - carcinogenic. Yum. (Well, you did ask us what we thought!)

The 'it's been used for thousands of years' argument and no one's fallen down dead from it...is never an argument for me! All sorts of things of which the net effect is harm to our health rather than benefit come into the 'it's been used for thousands of years' category! Tamukha, there are many races that are still 'here' despite ingesting all sorts of things harmful to health. The NH view i

Bryan's answer is good. As a rough rule of thumb however, in the raw food world, those who emphasise the word 'living' are usually sprouts enthusiasts.

Eran What this says is that you were marginally below the average/optimal count as determined by those who analyse the (unhealthy) population as a whole. As you were so fractionally below, it doesn't mean you are anaemic, simply that (in their opinion) you might be IF you gave blood. Anyone who doesn't eat the same amount of meat as does the average in the population might be a little lo

Natural Hygiene does not recommend the use of garlic/onion, or anything that has antibiotic qualities, as...antibiotics destroy life. Antibiotics don't make distinctions between the bacteria that we very much need and that which (perhaps)we can live without. Pre-raw I loved garlic. Pretty much as soon as I went raw, the taste of garlic in the quantities I'd enjoyed previously, and in the qua

No, there are no longitudinal studies comparing 100% raw people with non-raw,or high raw. There are many logical reasons to be 100% raw rather than 95%. And there are certainly no logical health reasons to include a little cooked food in the diet, BUT if sticking with a little cooked food helps, eg socially, motivationally, whatever, to keep one 95% raw, then that could be a very good argumen

I find that, regardless of intelligence level, culinary knowledge, whatever, SOME people do understand right away. 'Ah, so everything must be raw. So, for instance, if I made x for you, that would contain x wouldn't it, so you couldn't have that?' Others, equally intelligent (or it would seem), it's like everything you say to them goes 'in one ear and out the other'. I think there are a l

Assuming they're ripe, wouldn't it be easier to just halve them and scoop out the flesh with a spoon, like a kiwi fruit, rather than peel them?
