So heating destroys enzymes. Doesn't freezing affect foods, too? Why are frozen foods okay?

It sounds like your Dad was doing a kind thing in buying the apples. If so, that should be acknowledged by eating the peeled apples. It's a step in the right direction. Then take a more proactive role in getting raw, organic food.

I appreciate the viewpoint and response, but anything taken in massive quantities will be toxic. We're talking about 1 or 2 tablespoons per 34oz. bottle of water. It is supposed to be good for you in this way, but I was concerned that it might adversely affect pH or something else.????

Thank you all so much! Such support and good suggestions! I really do need to accept and allow myself more kitchen/food prep time. Guess I'll start with doing the dishes!

It is supposed to cleanse you, make your skin clear and help your metabolism, among other things. I don't know how to make this an active link, but you can cut and paste this. Apple Cider Vinegar is good for you!

It's hard enough for a psych patient to stay on their meds without "friends" like you all. I don't know about spookypumpkin3, but going off your meds can be life threatening for some people and is not something to be taken lightly. S/he never said s/he wanted to be off the meds, but rather could s/he be raw while taking them.

I like Victoria Boutenko's books, too. You can find good books with a search for "raw food" on many of the online shopping sites (Amazon.com, ebay, half.com, etc.). This website even has a bookstore!

I'm in Oregon. Is a tri tip a barbeque? I've been raw (mostly) for about a month. I don't beat myself up too much if I eat a cooked food ONCE IN A WHILE. In fact, I allow it to myself because if I let myself have a little it does two things. 1. It releases some of that frustration and longing for what I can't have so I don't totally fall off the wagon, and 2. It usually makes me realize how bad t

If you have been a vegan for 6 months, that should have helped you lose some weight. Did you? Lisa is right that it is better to focus on the health facet. I just started raw about a month ago, after 17 years as a lacto vegetarian. I am having a hard time letting go of cheese and bread. I need to lose 40 lbs. But I hope that will happen as I get healthier. Susan

Not all doctors are that bad or ignorant of holistic health. The main thing is "having a difficult period" is different than having Schizophrenia or Bipolar Disorder. These are physiological conditions that need to be addressed. They can be life threatening. You shouldn't just be telling someone to go off their meds. That is simplistic and dangerous. After a person has been raw for a wh

I take psych meds too, and I haven't noticed a problem yet, in my first month of about 80% raw food.

Don't beat yourself up if you cheat a little at first. As long as you are progressing to a more complete raw diet in the long run, that's what counts, I think. Sometimes a little cheat can keep you from building up too much frustration and falling off the wagon entirely. And it may be easier on your system than too much raw too fast. That's my two cents.

Yay!!! I'd love some recipes if they're simple. I don't "cook" much. BUt I love oats. (I must have been a horse in my previous life.)

So are tortillas and naan cooked? Is there ANY bread from the store I can eat? I don't have time for much uncooking. But I want bread!... and grains. Evidently even "raw" oats are cooked, so no muesli. Are any grains actually raw, and can they be eaten without sprouting? Just soaked or something? What about bulgar wheat? Why are grains bad for us?

Can't you take it back? The store I work in would take it back... I tried the Synergy once at work. I definitely got a buzz off it and decided not to drink anymore, as I have been a strict teetotaler for a number of years.

Many pesticides are systemic, taken inside and working from within the plant. Organic is definitely better.
