I would just take a B12/B-Complex/Good quality multi-vitamin, rather than risking it. But if you are adverse to doing that you can try to get B12 from home grown vegetables with soil, certain sea algaes, etc. I wouldn't rely on any of that though.

Patrick Timpone lives in Austin! He has an organic market, but I doubt the prices are any different from any of the other markets around town. Although I've never been to Austin, it seems to me there is a pretty health conscious community in that area. I hope you find what you are looking for!

I just put tap water through a Brita filter. The container that the water sits in is out of any heat source is constantly being poured and refilled, I don't think a very large amount of plastic byproduct would show up if my drinking water were tested. The Brita containers are also made out of a different plastic than the polycarbonate bottles that were all over the news because of BPA. In my o

I have a Jack Lalaine juicer and feel it does relatively good with greens... Maybe I just haven't seen what a masticating juicer can do, but I don't think that the centrifugal juicers are as bad for it as some people think. I mean, you're going to get a lot more juice from something like a carrot or celery stick than leafy greens will give you.

Apple cider can be good for digestion, yes. I would recommend making sure you are getting lots of fiber rich foods, which is more or less a given on a raw foods diet, and getting adequate fat and essential fats in your diet to lubricate the colon. A big salad with some nuts, flax oil, and sprouts always works great to clean oneself out. Using a small stool to raise your knees so you are in mor

Alright, thanks for the tips my friends. I do have the Wheatgrass book by Steve Mayerowitz as well, but I thought I'd still ask to see what some of you thought about the topic. I haven't really grown a lot of plants in my life in general, so I wasn't sure if the trays would get soggy without drainage. It sounds like not, so I'll just stick with the solid trays for now. Thanks again

Is it better to have wheatgrass trays with holes in the bottom or no? I've not really done much with plants in my life, so I don't know whether it is better to have the water to drain out the bottom or not. I don't have any windows in my kitchen, so I have to grow the grass on a table in my livingroom. Therefore I would prefer to use trays without holes in the bottom so that water isn't leaking o

Lately I've been on the search for a more peaceful kind of music to add to my life. I was wondering if anyone around here has any good recommendations for what to listen to? I don't know if I can really reference any music per se, but when I hear it in my head, the words peaceful, serene, tranquil etc. come to mind... The kind of music one can relax and even meditate too. Can't wait to hear

I've been finding that since I started green smoothies, I have been wanting progressively less and less fruit (sugar) in the drink. It is getting to the point where I won't put anymore fruit than is absolutely necessary, ie, just the stuff I want for the good nutrients they have in them, like berries and so forth. I am pretty happy about this, as I think it's a good indication that my body is sta

Why is it that the majority of high speed blenders all use plastic blending containers as opposed to glass? I'm guessing that it has something to do with design, where a glass container wouldn't work properly. Just curious

"but i'm wondering what the condition of the soil must be in terms of toxicity in order to qualify as organically grown" I don't know about that, but I do know a plot of land has to be grown without pesticides etc. for a two year period before the produce can recieve a certified organic sticker on it. So a farmer can't just grow conventionally fertilized carrots one season, and next

Hmm I don't think I've never had a Noni. I'd like to try one. I guess I also don't like dried fruits, never really been into that. I prefer to have my fruits with water in them.

Just bananas I suppose. I prefer not to eat them outside of putting them in smoothies. Nothing much fantastic in a banana anyways, lots of other fruits with more nutritional bang for the buck. That's probably why my body doesn't like them

All my greens stay in the standard clear plastic bags I buy them in from the organic market, and fruits stay out on the table until ripe, at which point I put them in the refrigerator as is. Nothing special. Since I live on my own it's pretty easy to gauge the amount of food I'm going to go through, and therefore what I want to buy. Very little goes to waste.

I can only get a few varieties of organic leafy greens where I live, and I prefer to not use conventionally grown, so my choice is pretty limited. Generally I alternate between kale and spinach in my smoothies. Sometimes I add in a bit of arugula too

You can sprout beans, but they then have the texture and taste of any other sprout, as opposed to a cooked bean. In general, I would say beans are a pretty great food to include in any vegetarians diet, but this IS a raw food discussion board, so I can understand if you or others are looking for a raw enzymatically active alternative. I just think it's important to be realistic and true to you

I haven't actually read the book, but I think "The Thrive Diet" by Brendan Brazier might be a good book recommendation for someone just getting into Vegetarian/Vegan/Raw foods. I think the authors focus is more on "whole plant foods" than just raw foods, but I know that Brendan is pretty conscious about raw foods as well, and looking at the table of contents it looks like some

In other words, even if you consume huge amounts of DHA, it may not do a thing to develop or improve your brain. "What does everyone here suggest/use?" I use a blend by Udo Erasmus called "Udo's Oil", which is pretty popular and readily avaliable at most health food stores accross North America. You could also use Flax or Hemp seed oil, but I prefer Udos blend because it has a lot of different oils in it (including flax) in a more optimal ratio than just consuming flax seed oil alon

Hi all, I am a 23/m raw food lifestyle enthusiast, who recently moved to a new city in Canada (Regina). Being a Canadian town in the middle of the prairies it is not that big, and I find it hard to meet like minded people to discuss life with. I'm actually also coming out of a situation where I had quite extreme obsessive compulsive disorder, so I'm really just looking to rebuild my life at th
